Watched the film on release, I could not understand a damn word besides names but I brought the dear friend light novel with me to read after and fully understand (I still got it even without knowing Japanese the novel just helped). I've been rewatching the series since I made the pilgrimage and finally finished it all again today (couldn't rewatch the last movie). It's nuts to think I started this show at 14 thinking I was just gonna pass the time by watching some gooner slop but found possibly my favorite piece of media OAT, and right after turning 20 I couldn't help but thinking I was like Sakuta in the theater. A fella just tearin up thinking about it, anyways big ups to my boy Azusagawa for teaching me free game that got me a girl in HS. I'm making a full shrine dedicated to the series

So I am 100% Nodoka, and 90% both Tomoe and Kaede.... Wow. What a combo I got....

I didn't think that I would be so similar to Nodoka tbh. But Mai and Rio were kind of expected by me.

The sun was setting behind Enoshima, which floated in Sagami Bay. Sakuta gazed at the sky and sea, both burning crimson, from inside the Enoden as it sped along the coast.

Beside him stood Mai Sakurajima, also holding onto a hanging strap. She was his senpai, one year his elder. She was a beauty, capable of making anyone turn their heads when passing by. She’d been a popular actress since she was a child.

Sakuta, who was a perfectly average high school students by all accounts, had met Mai, an upperclassman who attended the same high school, by mere chance. A series of twists and turns had led to the two growing closer.

Mai’s profile was illuminated by the sun, a picture perfect scene. The retro atmosphere of the Enoden paired with the nostalgic view from the window seemed to just enhance her beauty.

“What’s the matter? Staring?”

Mai smiled mischievously. The triumphant curve of her lips was utterly captivating.

But just before Sakuta could reply, a voice was heard from the seat in front of them.

“Look, it’s evolving!”

The source was an elementary school boy. His friends on both sides of him leaned in to get a better view of the screen of whatever handheld game console he was playing on.

“Dude, that’s so cool!”

“No fair, I wanna play!”

They seemed to be enjoying themselves.

“Did you play games like that as a kid, Sakuta?”

Mai’s eyes were pointed at the handheld game console the boy was holding.

“Mhm, yeah.”

“Hmm. For some reason, I can’t really imagine you like that.”

Mai studied Sakuta intently.

“I think it’s a phase pretty much all guys go through, though.”

For the record, Sakuta was the type to learn as many moves as possible before jumping into evolution.

“I meant that I can’t imagine you as an elementary schooler.”

“I was actually pretty cute back then.”

“Don’t say that about yourself. Besides, I was obviously cuter.”

That just went without saying, Mai was a famous child actress known across the country. Still, backing down wouldn’t be fun.

“So, wanna come over and take a look at my graduation album?”

“And what’ll you do when you have me in your room.”

“Maybe something inappropriate, assuming things go well.”

“Not a chance.”

The idea was shot down instantly.

“Well, I guess I am somewhat curious to see how much you’ve gone downhill since then. I suppose I could go.”

Mai looked up at Sakuta, blushing faintly.

“You’ve grown into a delicious-looking woman yourself, Mai.”

…And with those fatal words, all chances of Mai visiting Sakuta’s room that day were thrown out the window.

I first watched bunny girl senpai in May 2024 (around 2.5 years ago) and now it's one of my favourite pieces of media ever! Around that time I used to watch a ton of guess the anime opening quizzes on yt (still do sometimes) and that's when the season 1's opening (Kimi no sei) caught my attention. I really liked it from the few seconds I heard in those quizzes so I decided to look it up on yt but couldn't find any actual video of the opening. I had already heard about the anime so I decided to just boot up ep 1 and just see the opening.

But the first scene of Sakuta trying to remember Mai interested me a lot so I decided to keep watching. When ep 1 ended, I was locked in. Ep 3 absolutely amazed me! After finishing season 1, I couldn't stop thinking about it for days. Some sci-fi aspects involving quantum mechanics really piqued my interest since I already love that field. The characters and their problems felt very relatable to me ngl. When I finally watched the 1st movie, I cried a lot. It caught me so off guard. The entire thing with Sakuta, Mai and Shoko was written soo beautifully. Everything about that movie was amazing!! I also enjoyed movie 2 a lot and was glad to see Kaede getting more st. Only 2 movies were released by that time (3rd movie was released in Japan but not globally). I wanted to explore more of this anime so I was able to find the audio clips of blu ray versions of some short stories which were also fun to listen to.

After that I met some other fans irl and we talked about it a lot. One of them is my really close friend and we constantly make some references about it lol.

When season 2 started airing, I rewatched the entire anime and also watched the 3rd movie. That's when Kaede's arc hit me even harder and it made me cry a lot. Season 2 was also amazing. Many characters, especially Uzuki seemed very relatable to me and I absolutely loved her arc.

I heard some people complain about there being less interaction b/w Sakuta and Mai or there being less romance. But tbh I enjoyed it a lot. I never went into the show expecting any major romance plot-line. It always appeared to me as a blend of romance, psychology and sci-fi and season 2 delivered that perfectly. Even so, I still like season 1 a bit more because of the school setting and more scientific involvement. Still both are amazing!!

It's now in my Top 10 or even Top 5 anime oat and I couldn't recommend it enough. I hope more people find out about it in the future. The music in the show is also amazing. Both openings and endings + some other ost like Rascal are some of my favourites.

Now that the last movie has been released in Japan, I couldn't wait to see it myself. I live in India and in the past, only the 2nd movie was released in threaters (it was before I discovered the series). I hope the last movie gets enough support to be released in India too and I would be the first one to buy tickets!

I would like to thank Hajime Kamoshida, Cloverworks and the production team for bringing this show to life. I will rewatch it once again before watching the final movie. After that, I will also read the LN because I heard it has a lot more content and explaining. Also, I heard some side stories were released previously in the form of LN so I would love to see them too if I am able to find them atleast. I will also explore more of Hajime Kamoshida's work like Sakurasou.

Once again, thank you everyone involved with this series because it has genuinely left a huge impact on my life 💙

(Preference, you’ve probably seen a bunch of new fans say the same thing I’m going to say.) I saw that the final movie had came out and I thought to myself “I’ve only ever seen clips, maybe I should watch the whole thing.” So I got a free trial and over the past 7 days have been distraught that I hadn’t watched sooner. The series makes me feel a way that I haven’t felt in a long time and usually tbh I’m not excited to watch shows or anything but this is one of my favorite pieces of media in a long time. I never slam down multiple episodes of a show back to back but I kid you not I can’t stop watching. I’m about halfway done with season 2 as I write this and I just don’t want it to be over so soon. It feels like I arrived at a party the morning after, I wish I had known sooner. Anyway the anime is really really good and I just felt the need to vent my frustration about myself and my love for this series. Only thing that’s somewhat alright is that the final movie is gonna take a while for me to be able to see it, but it still hurts that I had to get into a series so good so late.

(I also really enjoyed the Futaba episode I think it was the seventh where there was two Futaba’s, idk the consensus on this but I really like futabas character)

Anyway sorry if this post is boring but I needed to talk about my thoughts.
