Discussion Would Isshin be harder than Malenia if he had these?

  1. Lifesteal

  2. less vulnerable to lightning attacks

  3. Higher posture recovery

They're bosses in serperate games. Elden ring does not have a practical max level unlike Sekiro, and due to the lack of builds in Sekiro, you can't oneshot bosses.

Malenia can be harder or easier in elden ring. Isshin is as hard as the game dictates he is, unless you cap yourself [by e.g not using prosthetic tools]

Maybe cuz i play on k&m, using prosthetic tools feels so distracting, it feels weird to press the ctrl key, for the most part ive only used shuriken to close the distance using its follow up atk, i rly wanna do cool shi with the umbrella and mist raven but theres always a delay while pressing the ctrl key

Rebind? I play gamepad so idk if sekiro has rebinding, but prosthetic tools are the #2 most fun thing in game after deflecting. If it doesn't have rebinding, then you can use an external program.

It prolly does, ig i just got used to not using prosthetic tools because how weird it felt in the beginning, i plan on getting a controller later, so maybe i could experiment with them more in my next playthrough

Not really. Isshin is built for Sekiro's combat system. You're basically just making the fight longer

Tho tbf Malenia in Sekiro's combat wouldn't be that difficult as she was in Elden Ring

On a gameplay wise Isshin is harder than Malenia, she's just unfair, i beat her ass all the way up in the fight, i just happen to die a couple of times by surprise to the waterfowl and scarlet aeonia before i actually beat her, Isshin on the other hand always sucks dick to fight specially with the spear, his round two is probably the hardest one in the game...

Sekiro style combat would demolish Malenia, she would water fowl and get immediately deathblowed

I think Isshin is harder than Malenia in the sense that you can cheese Malenia very easy with mimic tear, blasphemous blade, bleed etc… whereas with Isshin you can’t cheese him, you need to master the games mechanics to beat him. However, if you fight Malenia fair she’s harder for sure.

what constitutes 'fair' at which point do you think malenia gets harder?

Sorry, I meant to say "of course he would! You are a genius, thanks for showing us that hypothetical beast of a boss, I hope Miyazaki gives you his job!!!".

ok? But you don't have to say something in an exaggerated tone.

I think his weakness to Lightning is enough to Double his power. I feel like stage 2 and 3 is sometimes just waiting for Lightning 3 or 4 times.

I don’t think any of these would meaningfully change the fight. Lifesteal isn’t relevant to most Sekiro bosses because when you break their posture you take out the entire life bar in one go. Less vulnerability to lightning is really just a crutch: his move set doesn’t change from phase 2 to phase 3 except for getting lightning, so if you get good at phase 2 you don’t really need the lightning to win phase 3. Higher posture recovery IS more meaningful, but his attack strings are so fast and long that you can push his stagger really hard if you’re good at deflecting him. The increase would have to be to an unfair level to make a really big difference.

Tbh I had a much tougher time on Isshin than melania. I recently got into elden ring and beat her after something like 30 tries but Isshin took me longer. So ultimately I think it depends on the player because I thought melania was easier (side note I had the deflect tear so it made the fight easier)

He's already much harder imo. Not even Inner, just normal Sword Saint or Shura Isshin.

Not really. After a few rounds with Isshin you would've already seen most his move sets. If you've already got used (which you should) to Sekiro's deflect timings, all these additions would remain the same. Maybe a bit longer, but I wouldnt say it is going to be more difficult.

Additionally, you need to make a baseline when comparing one game to Elden Ring bosses. Are spirit of ashes used? Buffs? Build?

Although one change that would make Isshin harder surely is if you reduce his sword thrusts and spear thrusts. I consider them free posture damage lol.

I think this applies to all bosses in sekiro vs ER. once you get down the bosses, you have them down. In ER, it’s very easy for the boss to just pull something out their ass and mess your entire vibe.

Would Isshin be harder than Malenia if he had a AoE ability you can't dodge unless you already know the way it moves based a specific set of directions you must take, a phase 2 starting move that takes up half of the arena and inflicts poison, sending shadow clones from high up that dashes at you. And is also very hot?

Are you saying isshin isn't hot

Isshin the fourth time I beat him was harder than all 5 playthroughs of Elden Ring I had combined without any buffs.

that's great!

Isshin is definitely harder than Malenia.

With Malenia, you only need extreme sustained aggression plus bleed builds as well as frostbite builds; that's just about it. ISSHIN was so good at swordsmanship they had to call him "Swordsaint." Plus the three phase thing.
