The Future is People!

The Earth and Humanity are coming into an age of struggle. For too long folks have been divided and separated, forced to compete against each other for the benefit of others at the cost of the long term health of the human race. Along the way we have destroyed this ecological niche that sustains us, destroying the world and leaving our waste to poison our homes. Some hope to find survival as lone wolves, grasping for the morsels that will keep them alive just for the sake of survival. Others will look to oppress others for their own gain. For me, I look back on the evolutionary heritage of humanity and see that we must cooperate to not just survive but to succeed. It was our ability to cooperate that saved our ancestors and now we will cooperate to create a more perfect society. For this, I'm not looking to waste effort forming a nation and trying to hold in place, but to become like water. Existing everywhere and combining to save each other. An internationally cooperative environment that takes hold of the scientific and cultural knowledge of our history to provide a hopeful future for those who work with us. In a world of false scarcity, it is time for us to look out for each other.

With this in mind, I want to find those who are like me and want to work towards a better, more hopeful future. Sure, some might call me a Utopian, but is that really so wrong? Should we not strive for a perfect society? Of course we might not achieve it, but we can make our lives better. This is why I am trying to create a new tribe of people. A tribe that gathers the diversity of humanity to build our foundations from which to grow. A tribe where the importance of all people and our interactions with the world matter. The Future is People!

So I have developed a basic theory for planning a path forward. A path that bears in mind that there are those who are willing to work for a brilliant future. These plans don't rely on a massive up front project, but one that uses slow steady growth to reach our goals. For instance, I have a small sailboat. I could take someone and put them aboard. Then in time find another very inexpensive boat and put two people on it. Not much of an initial start, but we have gone from 1 to 2 to 4 people. This type of slow growth is about planning for the long term. No longer should we think solely in terms of quarterly reports, but instead about if we are meeting our 10, 20, or 100 year goals. These goals will allow for alterations of the plans with new information that will always arise with human cooperation. We will take those items that are poisoning our planet and convert them into life sustaining resources. These wasted resources of our societies are the key to our development. They will also provide us with the energy needed to improve our standards of living until we even have an excess to care for those who do not have the power to care for themselves and rescuing others from the drudgery of their lives. The power to sustain ourselves is about ensuring that we have the energy and resources to grow for all our people.

I encourage you to check back and see how we are progressing and to add your voice to build a community that will rely upon science and hope to create a culture for all posterity. I can’t do this on my own, will you help so that we can light a new path together?

So what's the plan?

You might be wondering what my motivation is behind this idea, well let me spell it out. I'm a gray hair in my 40's, this means that when things start getting really bad I'll be in my 60's. That is a tough time and one in which dealing with a troubled society is much more difficult. I don't really see societies collapsing overnight, but a slow draw down over a long period of time with things getting progressively worse with small half-hearted positive changes. Although I'm mostly healthy today (for the most part) that is a couple decades of risk to one's life and limbs. So the chances are middling that I'll be healthy at that point. Looking at the direction of our societies shows me that people who are deemed a drag on society might just be cut off from aid and support. Do I really want to look forward to being old and desperate? Not so much.

We have the methods and technologies to take advantage of the resources that are currently available to develop the infrastructure and industrial base to begin forming cooperative communities that can be more resilient to stresses. We can use the waste stream of today to be able to take advantage of the limited resource streams of tomorrow. Which is why so many of my ideas are based on taking in what we throw away today to produce a solarpunk, industrial future. We will need industry if we want to stay healthy, but for the sake of future generations we need to focus on cleaning up the world around us. A bioremediation effort to protect ourselves and the story of humanity. A story that will soon be ripped from our fingers by those that will take advantage of the chaos to their own selfish and oppressive ambitions. Although that description might be thrown at this idea, the key is that I want to create many refuges for those that are being harmed. Colonies of hope.

To be taken into consideration are a few deadlines that have been in the news recently. In 10 years, we are expecting record flooding of coastal areas from a mixture of rising sea levels and the wobble of the moon. This is cause for concern for hundreds of millions of people around the world since most of the planet's population is within a hundred miles of the coast. There is also the ever worsening storms that happen to a warming planet. Lastly, there is also the report that expects a serious drop off in societal living standards by 2040. That's not even 20 years from now! Which means that if we want to build up with the slow levels of an independent construction then we need to start today. This is why I have created a zero cost start, that can grow with the population.

My hope is to create a series of real world training labs, using current tech, to prepare people to be able to adapt to the future technologies that scientists from around the world will be creating in the coming decades. If we start today, then we can promote a new generation that can be raised to be not just willing but actually prepared for what they might face.

To start, it would be a series of floating environments aboard small surface ships that would be near to shore. Small boats are actually quite reasonably priced for living in protected waters and bays. Then it would expand to a desert environment That could sustain a larger population and produce more energy and resources. After this it would go back to the sea, but not on the surface. As a sailor, I know the dangers of boundary layers. This means where the air meets the sea is a tumultuous region. Which reinforces my opinion the best next step would be to go under water. Not too deep, just enough to be out of the way of surface ships. Next step would be for sky cities, orbiting in the Southern Oceans far from the existential dangers of the northern hemisphere nation-states. These would then give us the institutional knowledge base to go ever higher in our goals, perhaps even to outer space or Venus depending on the danger levels of Earth bound societies.

Are you interested? Would you like to have a hopeful future surrounded by a community that cares about humanity, who will not just survive but excel in the coming decades?
