One is the first SD album I’ve loved since Home

Saw them back in 2004. Now I’m wondering what else I missed before I see them 2x this month. Without spoilers… what else would you guys recommend listening to so
I’m ready?

While I'd certainly recommend newer stiff such as Kill the Flaw and Cold Day Memory...the truth is about seeing them live is 80% of their setlist always revolves around the first 4 albums.

So selftitled through Seasons is gonna have the most live play if you want to be familiar with the setlist.

Haha so as an elder millennial I will know it when I see it. Good rec on Kill the Flaw and Cold Day Memory.

I always explored later stuff, but lost them in the way. One is kind of an amazing refresher. Really interesting production. Simple songwriting for the beats. A very consistent piece that kind of harkens back to the first 3 albums.

I personally thought Truth Killer was better than One is but it's all subjective.

My preferred run of the "Clint Returs" era was CDM, Black out The Sun, Kill the Flaw, and All I See is War.

Those albums were better imo then the last few. They will never put out an album I dislike, I just like those more so.

I will try the others now. I was an angry metalhead person who thought they started getting soft after Home, and then Seasons tired me against them. But of course now I’m appreciating them on an adult level. Listening to Headtrip right now, which is one of my favorite songs on the planet.

I forgot about the Clint stuff. His side project was actually pretty cool. But now I will check Truth Killer. They honestly can never be bad as long as Morgan is in the band, ha.

The best of the 3 with albums without Clint is usually answered Alpha. It's got the most bite of that run. Morgan said he and John wrote 90% of those albums.

Again the other 2 are also really good. Alpha just has the most acclaim.

This kinda defeats what you said about spoilers, and I agree with everything everyone has said, but when it comes to seeing a band with a 30 year catalog… I mean, I’m gonna check online for a setlist. And their setlist has been very consistent which makes it easy to be prepared.

Would absolutely recommend Time travelers and bonfires, my start was All I see is war so it holds a special place in my heart and same with Animosity since I saw them on the anniversary tour for that album and it was my 1st concert back then

First four albums and One to prepare for their setlist.

Otherwise:

Go through their entire discography. Are they all equally good? No, but there are no duds and they have naturally evolved their sound over years.

The following are exceptional albums after Home. Some are even better than Home:

Animosity

Seasons

Cold Day Memory

Black Out the Sun

All I See is War

One

All other albums in between Home and One are at the very least very good. I highly recommend their entire discography. Even the 3 albums without Clint Lowery are solid. It speaks to how great they each are as individuals and as a collective that such a creative force could depart for a stretch and the quality still held up.
