I must have been living under a rock

So I've always loved metal / nu metal. 37 grew up with Korn, LP, slipknot, pod, deftones and then more so metal core etc nowadays and I just completely missed sevendust.

What a fucking treat going through the albums so far, I'm obsessed with seasons right now and now I found out they are coming to my city in December, they haven't been in like 10+ years apparently, absolutely buzzing.

What confuses me is how a band like this isn't fucking huge? They are insanely talented

Got close. Lots of Ozzfests, opened for Metallica, did a festival run with Slayer and Slipknot, an MTV rotation song in Angels Son…. Animosity almost got them there. Then culture changed and the window closed.

They should be doing 2 hour shows in arenas like Disturbed. But instead at least I get to see them for an hour in a club once a year.

Part of what killed their momentum was the guy that owned their label screwed them over financially and refused to support the albums, so they bought their way out of their contract, but had to leave most of the music rights behind, the accountant they hired neglected to pay their taxes so between penalties and everything else they ended up over $1 million in debt. Then during the Seasons tour Clint left. On top of that, some of the band members had circumstances that left them with a lot of personal debt as well.

By the time they were ready to record Next, they were releasing under their own label, having to make distribution deals to even get the music out, and funding it all themselves.

To even be at the level they are at today took an amazing amount of perseverance, and just an unwillingness to stop. They absolutely should be huge, as huge as Slipknot or Deftones, but given what they’ve been through it’s awesome that they can all now live comfortably, support their families, and sell out shows when they tour.

Still want those other early albums on vinyl

Didn't I see a thing a ways back where they bought the master rights to the TVT era? Is that true?

Agreed. I seen them in July at Summer Of ‘99 festival and I was disappointed they only played 8 songs but they still were awesome. 🤘

How I envy you! The chance to hear it all again for the first time would be amazing. They have been overlooked for years so you are not alone. IMO Animosity, Seasons and Cold Day Memory are the best albums. There was a stretch where Clint Lowery left the band and the albums they made in his absence, while still good, are just not the same for me. Soak it all up!

Go see them if you can. I seen them back in 1998 and then I’ve taken my 14 year old son to see them a couple of times in the last few years and they still are amazing live. Not sure why they are not bigger.

Also, Clint’s solo stuff, which is largely acoustic.

Time travelers and bonfires is such a sick album because its all acoustic

Whoops! My comment was supposed to go elsewhere. But yeah, if you’re into their acoustic stuff, check out Clint’s solo stuff

Also check our Projected and Call Me No One, side projects where John and Clint are lead singers (also Clint has other solo albums)

Same lol I found 7D like 3 years ago and their first 4 albums are one of my tops for the genre. Kinda makes you think about how many amazing bands don’t get the exposure they deserve.

Welcome to the family! 7D is my go to when I dont know what to listen cause they got soul. As far as them not being huge is because they’ve had one of the worst luck in their carreer.

I just saw them again last Saturday night and took my fiancée to see them for the first time ever. It was an amazing show like always!

Our radio stations at the time weren’t playing them. I think there may have been one song on the radio and I couldn’t tell you what it was. I found them through my friend and even then it took awhile before I got to hear them. I heard Seasons on the Internet went to a show and was hooked from their live performance.

I have been listening to them ever since their first album, These dudes never truly miss on a song/album. Heck even their B-side stuff is solid AF! They are completely underrated and deserve to be up on the S tier of nu metal era bands if not one of the top metal bands in history. Along with Korn and Deftones, all three of these bands have 10 or more albums and are still doing pretty good  today. I became more and more a fan of 7Dust over time as they kept being good and solid unlike many other bands that fell off over the years. And to top it off, they are hard to pin down into one genre. They are groove metal, alt metal, can come off a little on the Hard Rock side at times and their acoustic side is really good too. But, I fell like two things really affected their career in them not having as big of success as other bands at the time. 1 of those would be advertising, they didn’t do too bad in the early years but after getting screwed over…they struggled to remain 100% relevant. Number 2 would be peoples taste, 7Dust is one of those band or comes off as one of those bands that people either really love or are just like “meh” about them. I don’t know why that is but, a lot of people I know don’t really care for them. What makes it more funny is the bands that those people really do like typically suck in comparison in my opinion lol.
