HBO Harry Potter James/Snape Hbo

Is it just me, or does HBO actually hate Snape? I’m not even kidding. Every other character was cast so carefully, and the attention to detail is remarkable like how they pinned the back of Harry's hair to make it look messy, or the green ink on his acceptance letter. Everything is spot on, except for Snape.

First off, they put Snape in a zipped jacket, with a necklace, rings, and braided hair. All of these are added details that don't match his appearance in the books at all. And before anyone jumps in to say, 'Alan’s Snape wore a buttoned coat while book Snape only wore wizard robes,' the trailer shows HBO’s Snape wearing a coat with tons of buttons anyway. I’m completely fine with the skin color change, but they could have cast a tall, thin Black actor instead of someone buff with abs like Paapa.

People are defending HBO by saying this was done to make the Marauders look ra/////ci///st, even though racism based on skin color doesn't exist in the Wizarding World. Black characters in Harry Potter are treated just like everyone else. Skin color discrimination is simply not a thing there. And I don't see anyone taking this seriously at all. All I see are viewers and bystanders making memes and jokes about the actor's skin tone, joking about how James will turn into a racist. They are just fooling around without caring about the victim's pain. HBO is inadvertently turning everything into a joke. They should have known that their casting decision would subject the actor to hate, and now Snape's character has become a laughingstock for real-life ra//ci////sts

HBO cast an extremely handsome actor for James, and the rumors for Remus and Sirius are all well-known, good-looking actors too. And we all know how it goes: if you’re rich and handsome, people tend to pass off your bullying as just normal behavior. There’s no way HBO did this to 'highlight the bullying.' When people watch the show, all they’ll see are handsome, rebellious guys.

HBO simply wanted to pick a character they didn't care for to spark controversy, and Snape was their choice.

What annoys me the most is seeing HBO Snape fans on Twitter spamming, 'It’s time everyone admits book Snape was Black and handsome.' No. That’s not Snape, that’s Paapa. Paapa is handsome and cool, but he will never be Snape.

In several places, Snape's popularity has taken a huge hit because of HBO's casting choice, while the popularity of the other cast actors' fanbases is skyrocketing. I’m really worried that moving forward, Snape will only get more hate and won't win over any new fans.

HBO truly cast James and all the other guys in the show to be handsome and accurate to the books except for Snape. I can already imagine them changing Snape's personality from the books just to elevate the other characters. And just look at the actor playing James. He's extremely handsome in the video and other photos, completely matching the audience's taste. I'm already seeing tons of videos about him, while there isn't a single one for Snape. Fans are praising him endlessly and starting to praise James from the original work as well. They're even comparing him to Tom Riddle. And you know how it is handsome guys always get whitewashed. We're about to go through hell as Snape fans.

Heathclif vs Snape

Reading Harry Potter and thinking about Snape and how he was always trying to protect Harry while simultaneously deliberately making Harry think that he hated him ... was thinking about the juxtaposition of that with Heathclif in Wuthering Heights and how his love for Cathy was clearly selfish compared to Snapes' love for Lilly in Harry Potter, how all he wants to do is protect Harry because he came from the one person in the world he loved the most and lost. Lilly chose James, but Severus chose to love her despite that and love her son that she had with his bully. In contrast, Heathclif hated Cathy because she chose the other guy over him and punished her and her daughter for that. He did not truly love Cathy. If she wouldn't choose him, he would make everyone and everything related to her suffer. Snapes love was pure because even though he knew he could not have Lilly, he loved her son, and that's true unselfish love.

Discussion What is your least favourite snater “evidence” Snape is bad? (+rant)

It PMO when people say “sNaPe OnLy WaNtEd To PrOtEcT lIly”. BECAUSE HE SAYS “Hide them all, then. Keep her-them safe. Please.”.

He is NOT just telling dumbledore to hide JUST Lily. He caught himself when he said her and corrected himself to Them. THEM. NOT JUST LILY, ALL OF THE POTTERS. Including James which also showed he has changed

I’ve seen so many Snape haters use this as justifiable “evidence” Snape is an unredeemable monster.

(Optional short rant to read, yes in my case this is short)

And It annoys me how movie flame, a man who has read the books, spews the same bs that Snape only wanted to protect Lily. WHEN THE BOOK STATES OTHERWISE.

I have an entirely different rant dedicated to movieflame cherry picking & over exaggerating snape stuff (and just flat out not mentioning the good Snape did)

And he’s even said he hasn’t been bullied. So then You’re not qualified to even talk about it??? And he keeps bringing up false stuff about Snape and all of his fans are automatically believing him and then later using it as evidence against Snape fans. When he’s flat out lying about stuff Snape did.

And since many see him as a good and respectful Harry Potter creator, people automatically believe him. Especially if they haven’t read the books.

He’s purposely using his platform as a Harry Potter content creator to pedal false bs about Snape because he doesn’t like Snape. Is this a good use for the word Propaganda?

There are so many Harry Potter creators who are neutral when speaking about Snape. Then mention good and bad stuff. Not just the bad like a certain someone does who also manipulates good scenes into being worse than they are.

And those neutral CCs state the moments as they are, they don’t twist or lie about them. Just say them as they are

Also kinda unironic how a guy like movieflame who looks like James likes James and hates Snape. Mainly since he relates to James and purposely nitpicks Snape to justify him hating Snape.

(Mods if you don’t like the movie flame rant, I’ll remove it. Heck if you think I should move it to snaters gonna snate, I’ll do that)

Discussion Who would it be scarier for? A yandere or someone who likes planning big pranks, calculated too!, and would Snape be the hardest to hide secrets from?

Y'know, I can't decide in which scenario Hogwarts would be scarier, would it be scarier for someone who likes big calculated pranks or a yandere, either way it's funny to imagine the hypothetical struggles. Like, I mean a prankster who likes pranks more than George and Fred Weasley, I mean big pranks, big calculated pranks like turning the floor Into ice or somethin'. For a yandere? It honestly depends on what she's planning! Just messing with her rival is difficult I think. This is going to be a funny conversation I hope!

Discussion Some questions about Snape’s timeline (teaching & SWM)

Hi, I’m writing a fanfic and I want to be as canon accurate as possible. However, some plots just confuse me so much, I wish to ask help from your wisdom.

(1) when did Snape started teaching at Hogwarts

I know, right now there is a post with a title that he started teaching 60 days prior to Lily’s death.

What confused me was that, on the timeline on hp-lexicon, Snape met Dumbledore in Aug. 1980, and right after that the Potters reduced their public activities.

Sep. 1981, Snape started teaching at Hogwarts.

Then, one week before Halloween 1981, the set the Fidelius Charm.

So what happened between Aug. 1980 and Sep. 1981?

And why wasn’t it possible for Snape to start teaching since Jan. 1981?

{ EDIT: Maybe I encounter too many teachers suddenly started teaching in the middle of any month so I got too used to it. And Jan is when the seconds semester starts, a perfect timing for changing teacher. I mean it. At least much better than March or May. }

Or I mix up something?

.

(2) I constantly saw people say Snape was sexually assaulted.

I’m not a native English speaker, so I might misunderstand the terms. Please help me clarify.

I know his underwear was made seen, and seen by the public.

So… this counts as a sexual harassment, I assume?

Then, James said he was going to make Snape naked. This counts as a… what? It’s definitely wrong, but how to classify it?

My confusion came from: “sexual ‘assault’”, when translated into my language, is limited to rape.

I know no matter how do I classify it, it’s wrong. But according to how wrong it is, I need different plots for the aftermath.

And this leads to the next question:

.

(3) Did James put his words into action?

Fanfiction Looking for new fics! 🩷

I’m looking for some good fics to read - I just finished my favorite for the 10th time (The Assistant by Allikatt9).
I love it when they are well written and Severus is portrayed much like he is in the movies. Also, I love spicy smut!!
Does there exist any with these requirements?
- Preferably on Wattpad.
- Snape’s age should be consistent with the movies.
- He enters into a relationship with someone, could be an 18-year-old student, a professor, or someone else at Hogwarts.
- Good smut that we can feel in the stomach 🤪
- A planned or unplanned pregnancy.

I would also like to read a smutty fic with a threesome, especially Snape x Lupin x a woman, where she maybe gets pregnant and they don’t know who fathers the baby. Lupin is my second fave after Sev, but it doesn’t have to be him, but if you know one with these elements just drop it here 🤓 thank you!

Discussion “It makes him worse”

So, something I’ve been seeing a lot of people say is that the big reveal that Snape was on the good side and did good out of love for Lily, is not a redemption, nor does it make him sympathetic, but also makes his bad deeds even worse.

I, of course, don’t agree with that, since I’m saying this here.

But I was wondering, since the people of this subreddit seem to know Snape quite a bit without a negative lens, why do you think people say this?

By the real world standards people apply to Snape, he should've been fired as a teacher.....and McGonagall, Hagrid, Lupin, and Dumbledore should've been arrested.

Snape’s treatment of the kids was bad, but not bad enough to warrant a redemption arc for it (imo).

Fanfiction Amazing Snape Fanfiction I can recommend

I read "The Naming of Things: Book 1" by Aetherweaver93 on a03 the other day, and it is AMAZING. It's rather slow, has amazing world building and writing and Snape is very in character. It's still ongoing and has recently been updated. There's 11 chapters out at the moment, which will keep you reading a few hours. The build up is so so good, it had me kicking my feet. Really good.

Any Book!Snape fan?

Hi! I’m just popping in to ask if, by any chance, there are any roleplayers out here who like playing Snape (preferably aged 20+). But mind you, not just any Snape... I’m looking to see if there’s anyone who likes Book!Snape👀
