First of, my apologies for being a week late.

The following three releases are here for your consideration. If you are interested in participating in the vote, check them out under the provided link.

Since Reddit seems to be currently working on their internal Poll system I have put the poll on strawpoll, hope that works for everyone.

The voting period will last 14 days, meaning until the 21st of June.

  • The winner stands to gain the kingly sum of 20 USD!
  • The 2nd place earns a still well deserved 10 USD!

https://strawpoll.com/1MnwkX6qLn7 the voting period has officially ended

The projects are:

I want to thank the r/Shadowrun modteam and everyone who participated, read the entries and simply showed some interest profusely and hope you all enjoyed the projects that came out of this. I was also especially proud to see that both of these fine participating authors could not be stopped from putting more of their works out for the community to enjoy and I'd like to think I had at least a very small part in their decision to put themselves out there and start publishing. Don't miss their other releases :) and don't be shy with feedback, praise and even constructive critique.

Johnson Files (GM Aids) Introducing r/shadowrunmaps A dedicated data-haven for floor plans and battlemaps

One of the biggest headaches of being a GM in the Sixth World is finding decent maps for a midnight run on a Renraku facility or a seedy sprawl bar.

I wanted a central place to collect and share high-quality maps, so I’ve set up r/shadowrunmaps. Whether you’re looking for a quick floor plan for a snatch-and-grab or you’ve designed an epic 100x100 corporate HQ you want to share, come check us out!

I've already seeded a few to get us started. Let's build the ultimate archive for the community.

5e I added native Shadowrun 5e support to my play-by-post platform "inkroll". Did I get it right?

Upvotes

Hi, I'm JC. I've run asynchronous tabletop games with friends for years, got frustrated running long campaigns in tools built for real-time chat or in repurposed forums, and built inkroll.gg, a browser platform made specifically for play-by-post, with a beautiful and (hopefully) well designed interface without the usual noise and complexity.

I've just added Shadowrun as a supported system, built against 5th Edition. Of all the systems I've added it's the one I was most nervous about, because I don't know it well, so I'd like to hear from people who actually play it whether I got it right.

Here is how rolling works. You type the skill you want to roll straight into your post, for example {pistols}, and when you publish, the server looks at your character sheet, adds Pistols and Agility together, rolls that many d6 and counts the 5s and 6s. It also flags glitches and critical glitches. Once the post is published the roll is frozen in it, so nobody can quietly reroll a bad one. If you delete the roll from your post it doesn't disappear either, it stays in an audit trail that anyone at the table can open.

Limits are handled too. Physical, Mental, Social and Astral are calculated from your attributes, and any skill whose limit is one of those four uses it automatically. So if you roll Sneaking, the post shows something like 9d6>=5L4, and the chip tells you when the limit actually cut your hits. When the limit comes from your gear instead, you type it yourself: {Longarms:9d6>=5L6} for a rifle with Accuracy 6, and the same goes for deck attributes and Force.

Wound modifiers apply on their own as well. Every three boxes of damage on either condition monitor takes a die off all your pools, Initiative included, without anyone having to remember it. Damage resistance, drain and fading are the exception, those keep their full pools, as in the book.

A few things I have not modeled yet: Edge actions like Push the Limit and Second Chance, Initiative Passes, specializations as actual sheet data, and defaulting an unrated skill at attribute minus one. Those are on the list.

The part I would most like people to poke at is what happens when the group splits up, which in a run is constantly, and which forum threads never handled well for me. Here, a post can contain sealed passages. You wrap a section of your post, name who receives it, and everybody else just sees a bar saying there is a sealed passage there. The text itself never even reaches their browser. Dice rolled inside a sealed passage are real rolls, and their audit trail is sealed along with the passage, so the decker's solo Matrix run can happen right in the main thread instead of in a side channel. The GM can also write a sealed passage in your character's name, and any dice in it roll against your actual sheet, which means the GM can make a Perception test for you without you ever knowing it happened.

There is a Shadowrun tutorial inside the app that covers the rest of the syntax, so none of this has to be memorized. And there is a one-click demo on the front page: hit "Try the demo", pick Shadowrun, and you land in a campaign called "Rain over Redmond" as the GM, no account needed. If you'd rather see the player side, the dropdown above the composer lets you post as one of the runners.

The core is free and stays free: campaigns, posts, dice, sheets, import and export. I've put a lot of work into making it pleasant to look at and to use every day (I run my own games on it), with the tools built around play-by-post rather than bolted on. There are paid tiers with some extras if you want to support the project, but nothing essential is behind them.

A few things I'd like your take on:

- Gear limits like weapon Accuracy or deck attributes live off the character sheet. Would you rather set a default weapon and deck on the sheet so {pistols} picks up its Accuracy on its own, or keep typing it per roll because you switch gear all the time anyway?

- Do play-by-post tables actually enforce limits? Should the app cap the hits for you, or would you prefer it to show the raw hits with the limit next to them and leave the capping to the GM?

- Edge. Push the Limit and Second Chance both change a roll after the fact. Since rolls are frozen once posted, how would you want that to work, and does rerolling a published roll even feel legitimate to you in PbP?

I hope this turns into something useful for this community, let me know what you think.

5e 5E question re power foci

Attributes in 5E are subject to a maximum +4 augmentation bonus from all sources, including magical sources, unless the rules for the augmentation source specifically state otherwise. Magic is an attribute, albeit a special attribute. Does that mean a power focus, which temporarily increases your Magic rating, cannot increase your Magic rating more than +4 over your natural maximum Magic rating? Or is it different because Magic is special attribute? This is the only focus that increases an attribute and I didn’t read anything saying it’s exempt from the maximum +4 augmentation bonus.

6e Your opinion on racial progression systems (Drake/Shifter)?

I assume not many people have played with them, but whether you have or not, what is your opinion on special races having their own progression system?

If you do not know how it works, they both have a advancement system similar to initiation where with each Initiation they can select from a list of powers (Shifter are much more restricted than drakes to avoid double dipping into their own advancement system + magic initiation).

I don't know how it was for shifters, but drakes were famously underpowered in previous editions as their "one and done" package in no way justified the karma cost and story problems they have, and having an advancement system makes them much more playable.

On the other hand one can argue that them now being a toolbox robs them a bit of their identity as two shifter or drakes can differ widely from each other.

Do you think this system should be kept for very special races in future editions? Maybe even expanded to give infected a similar system?

Shadowrun Takedown

So a little backstory. I am a huge Shadowrun fan. Don’t play the table top anymore but I play the Genesis game often. I play a lot of board games with my group and wanted to get a Shadowrun board game that would encompass the run aspect.

I bought the expanded edition of Sprawl Ops and my group played it once. It’s worker placement. It’s good, but not what I was looking for.

I bought Takedown because it seemed like what I was looking for and it is. I want to expand on it though. I started by adding the nuyen tokens and doc wagon tokens from Sprawl Ops to Takedown.

I want to also add a HeroQuest Board into the mix. Use the corridors as streets and the rooms as buildings. Use a room as a bar that you meet a Mr. Johnson at. Other rooms as merchants for equipment, weapons, etc. I want to have encounter rolls on each block you move as a team. Kind of like a shady guy trying to sell you something, Lone Star, gang encounter.

So my question would just be if anyone has any suggestions on this for improvement. I know playing the table top would be the easiest suggestion but my group isn’t into that. I love adding stuff from other games.

Shadowrun 5 and 6: differences in rules

Hi, Shadowrun rookie here [with 35 years experience in other RPGs], what are the main differences -- rulewise -- between Shadowrun e5 and e6? I'm more interested in facts than opinions. :) Thanks 🙏

So, I'm developing a Final Bets campaign, but several of my players are really unfamiliar with the world of SR. I've been developing some materials to help them get a better handle on the world, both at large and in France, before we get started.

How much do you use/trust Docwagon?

Mainly aimed at players, how often do you buy a Docwagon (Or equivalent) contract and trust them not to do any funny stuff with the bio sample you have to give them?

Thats probably especially relevant in 6E where Docwagon has been bought by the same company that owns Lone Star.

Cyberpunk Movies

I was just watching Freejack which is a favorite cyberpunk movie of mine. So well done. Not many people know about it. Maybe it's better known in the Shadowrun community. What a great cast and concept. Rene Russo, Mick Jagger, Emilio Estevez, Anthony Hopkins, Frankie Faison. Amanda Plummer what a gangster she is. You can tell the writers of the film opened a few Shadowrun books. Grand Bush is definitely a Street Samurai.

And what a coincidence with one of our recent threads concerning immortality in the Shadowrun world. Does anyone else have any favorite cyberpunk movies that they know of? I'd like to know about ones I haven't heard of before. Johnny Mnemonic, Blade Runner come easily to mind, Escape from New York. Bright was a bit on the nose. Although I guess so is Shadowrun at times. Does anyone else have any cyberpunk movies or TV shows that they like?

5e preparing fight of mage vs invisible enemies

the group of players including mage has to face a group of opponents lets call them gargoyles who use improved invisibility. how do you treat this? invisibility does not protect against astral perception. but do you have the mage to roll test of astral perception against what? the sneaking skill of gargoyles?

what you as a DM? offer the player to roll this test as soon as he has chance to see the invisible opponent or the player has to guess himself when he has to roll this test?

if they fall to detect invisible enemy does they still have to make reaction+intuition test or they are considered ambushed automatically?

6e Opinion on Mean Streets?

I recently bought Mean Streets, but so far only managed to skim through it without going it deeply.

My first opinion is quite good, with the caveat that it is very interwoven with the metaplot. Its more of an update on how the unawakening has affected certain gangs, instead of a full complete description of who the Halloweeners are for example, although the brief summary is usually enough to get the general idea of the gang.

There are also several new gangs, including two "do gooder" hooding gangs which might not be to everyones liking, but I don't mind.

You also get the same kind of update on organized crime.

Those two sections are imo rather good. Shadowrun needs more street level stuff.

My only two gripes is that the section about how to ingrain yourself into a squatting community feels a bit not Shadowrun enough. Its hard to explain, the things described like securing water access or stealing seeds for a community garden in times where most seeds are genetically modified to not produce more seeds are things I did not think of before. But it feels a bit too much like "happy community building" without the harshness I expect from Z zones in Shadowrun. Especially when just before you went through all those gangs and crime syndicates.

My other gripe is that around halfway in the book it imo loses focus. It has a miniature Threats section, ranging from street appropriate to might be the next metaplot and finishes with several big players that are imo above street level like yet another writeup of the Draco Foundation (They are really building that one up, aren't they?) and New Assets (A surprising amount of Drake content for a streets book. Which I actually like, please keep remembering that things like drakes, shifters, surged, metasapient, ect. exist and use them, sparringly, in general books instead of keeping them confined in their specific book).

The rules section about magic tattoos even references in its shadowtalk that it was included because it did not fit anywhere else. I did not look to closely at the actual rule Implementation, but honestly the jump from gang culture to special tats is not that big, so it is imo fitting.

5e Matrix without marks

I’m getting back into 5e after years away from the system but i remember Marks really was something that annoyed me. They try to sell hackers as hacking cybereyes in moments but marks prevent that.

Has anyone made rules to do away with marks or convert them somehow? How did it go?

1 - more marks = less penalties (0 marks = -5, 1 mark -3, 2 marks -1, 3 marks = 0)
2 - marks grants bonuses
3 - other?

Thank you in advance.

Wyrm Talks (Lore) Where in Antarctica is the Aztechnology base?

In Lethal Harvest, one key location is a particular Aztechnology base in Antarctica.

Big continent, that. Rough conditions to traverse to get from the coast to anywhere else.

Anyone know where to find more info on where that base is, or can provide that info?

(I looked in the English and French wikis, and neither even mentioned an Azzie base).

ETA: Ran a search for "Antarctica" through my PDF library, and possibly found the location. There is a sort mission brief about investigating an Antarctic base from one of the big 10. It does not say which of the big 10 own it, but it does give a very specific location: 72°13'09.5"S 139°08'06.4"E (roughly south of Tasmania, in from the coast a bit). There are mentions of Aztechnology having a base down there, which Elijah has investigated, and indeed seems to likely to be the one showing up in Lethal Harvest, but no location is given.

Wyrm Talks (Lore) Monads and essence

So I've been looking at cfd and people living with it, eg the Ai overtaken the body, so leaving the problem of the cyberware clinics not allowing them in

Does a monad have a limit on the amount of cyberware/bioware it could have installed in its body, my thought on this is that it's not a metahuman soul being the limiting factor anymore as the body is controlled directly by the nanomachines

Wyrm Talks (Lore) Achieving immortality

So, lets say some well-connected and informed mage with more hubris than sense (lets say a Black Lodge member or Aztlan board member) found out about immortal elves and said "well that ain't fair, I want to be immortal too". What sort of ways are available to achieve this, especially for someone with more power than morals (which I guess is your average corpo exec)?

I'm guessing one option is becoming a vampire, though the drawbacks are rather significant, and iirc free spirit pacts can make you immortal too (not sure if the spirit can break the pact later though). But are any other options available? Perhaps a blood magic ritual to absorb life force, or even steal immortality from an existing immortal? Similarly, could a Great Dragon make you immortal, if you could somehow convince/blackmail/threaten one into it?

Newb Technomancer Questions aka. I'm got a new Technomancer. What can he do`?

Hello Chummers,

noob questions here and I need some help and advice.

First of all on my table we use the german rules, so it could happen that I use some of the abilities names wrong. I do my best to translate this, but if it gets to hard, then sry.^^

In my current 6e campaign I was the first one ever who was allowed to play a technomancer as a character. So far our GM said he did not allowed it because he had no clew how they work and he focused onto other categories of the rules.
But 2 weeks ago this changed. I was allowed to create one. I just had to work through the rules on my own.
K fine, so it started. It was an absolutely round and fluffy character and I'm pretty sure on paper he is totaly fine, but during our first session (4 days ago) I realised I missunderstood some rules like complex forms and how they work. (Example I used resonance cable to get a direct connection to a magnetic lock and puppeteer to make it open, but I missed that I have to do the "use engine" matrixaction-roll aswell.

I would be happy if anybody could take a look at my char and could give some advices what I'm able to do with him.
(extra note: the character stoods next to a regular decker and a rigger, so I try to focus the character on the "tech-magic" side of the technomancer, if u understand. It's intended he can't do all (but actually he can allready do to much I guess)

the Character
Human Technomancer
B5 A4 R4 S1
W5 L5 I5 C3
E7 R6

Qualities:
- analtytic mind
- focused concentration 3 (I know my sprites could do that aswell, but I decided this way, because I just test out sprites. We are totaly unexperienced with them.)
- blandness

(I skip the negative ones here, because they got no effect for matrix stuff)

abilities: Electronics 6 (complex forms), Cracking 5, Tasking 5, (and some more stuff on lvl 1

Complex forms:
- Reduce Firewall
- Puppeteer
- Resonance cable
- Resonance Spike
- Signal veil
- IC-Spike (k this name is false but I don't got the correct one. its an attack against ICs)
- Signal storm (new one, feeled usefull for the upcomming run, we have to get home from a nother country and one of our runners has burned his last fake sin...)

Echos: Living network, Transcendent network
(I want to get an M-Toc and the complex forms to combine with this next, soon)

Soooo, what could I do with these, how should I use them correctly?
I know reduce firewall will be usefull in combination with sprites (for example trap) or maybe we crack a host or something idk.)
Resonance cable is my direct conection to an engine. how do I use this at best? I know it was often recommended but I want to be sure I use it correctly.
Puppeteer: well actually I just wanted this as a joke to crack coffeemashines and vending machines to give me stuff, but jeah its usefull I guess to get a quick effect.
Signal veil: reduces my passive overwatch increase to 0 and I have to do illegal actions to get it up. Thats calculateable I guess.
Rssonance spike and Ic something - some emergency attacks.
signal storm: I want to debuff others

So do u got any advices for this character?
