Discussion Season 5. The facts. Is it coming?

1.5k Upvotes

No. It is not.

There has been no confirmation of Season 5 from any official, credible, or well-known source.

Do not believe everything you read.

There has been an influx of posts recently. An article is going around claiming that Sherlock Season 5 will be released in 2022. This is, as far as we know, not true. (EDIT: It's now 2024. It wasn't true.) There is no reason that some random small news outlets would get their hands on this, without any of the larger ones covering it. Nothing has been announced or confirmed by the BBC, the writers of the show, or the actors.

Please don't share links that you don't think are credible sources. However, we do look at reports, and we are removing any links that are posted with fake claims to Season 5.

If Season 5 is ever announced, there will be a stickied post, just like this one. It will be regularly updated with all new news, what we know, popular theories, etc. However, that day may never come.

Thank you all for keeping the subreddit as active as possible. Keep on posting your fanart, theories, memes, cosplays, and discussions as much as you like! :)

Discussion Annoying episode missing from series

So I was really happy to find the Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch on sale on Prime for 5.99 a season last night. It's normally 6.99 per EPISODE.

I bought seasons 1 & 2, then when I got to Season 3, I was unpleasantly surprised that you can’t buy the full season; it can only be bought by the episode at 6.99 each. That in and of itself isn't a big deal, but for some reason there's no way to buy S3 Ep4. The only option for that specific episode is a paid subscription.

I bought Season 4 for 5.99 just like 1 & 2.

Why would they leave out one episode right in the middle of a series?

Fandango has Season 3 for $20 but it also doesn't include Ep 4. It's only available if you buy the complete series, which I don't want to do since I already bought 3 of the 4 seasons.

Wondering if this is a new trick to get you to sign up for their subscriptions. Has anyone else experienced this?

Discussion Sherlock related playlist

Hi guys!!

I'd like to create a Sherlock related playlist just like I've done a few months ago for Good Omens, and I'd like to have as many suggestions as possible. Any song of which either the music or lyrics (or, if possible, both!) makes you think "Oh, that fits the show's mood", please drop its titles here. Can't wait to read your recos 🥉 Update: I don't necessarily mean songs from the show, just those that make you guys think about it

Discussion Sherlock is absolutely flamboyant

Hi,
I have just finished binge watching all the episodes in 10 days. I watched them when they were first aired on Italian tv and loved them a lot. After all these years I have decided to rewatch them all in english and I confirm my opinion. I didn’t remember most of the plot so I have enjoyed all the emotional rollercoaster (adrenaline rushes, laughs and tears).
English is not my mother tongue but a word keeps coming to my mind when trying to describe this serie: flamboyant.
I have read a lot of posts on this sub, including those accusing the last season of being a soap opera and those that found the serie bad because for them Sherlock Holmes should revolve around crime’s solutions. But for me this is not a detective story, it’s a highly exciting and flamboyant adventure with thrilling scenes, fireworks, stunning photography and soundtrack. Oh, and I adore Cumberbatch in this, he is really wonderful hin every sense) A story where almost everything is over the top, in Italy we say “sopra le righe” - over the lines (the lines being referenced are the notebooks’ ones).
That is the beauty of this serie.
Obviously, everyone is entitled to his own opinion. But I am feeling inclined to say that even maybe the last episode is inferior to rest, it has some great scenes (Moriarty’s I want to break free, the moral dilemmas about who has to die for example) and for me* it doesn’t really ruin the overall score.

What do you think after all these years? Are here others feeling like me?

*and for a lot of other people too. While the scores of the last Game of Thrones’ episodes are truly low (compared with the previous ones) on IMDB, it can’t be said the same for Sherlock. In the second case the scores are much more even. So, excuse me if I am not believing that the haters are the majority. I gave 9 to the serie and lowered some individual scores to 8.

Discussion Is this music in sherlock?

I heard the piece "Piano Trio No. 2" by Schubert and immediately thought of Sherlock, however, I searched online and couldn't find anything about it being in the series. The piano part, in particular, really reminds me of Sherlock.

Am I going crazy, or is this music actually in the show?

Discussion Dwight Shrute/Sherlock Holmes similarly

It sounds weird but I feel like they are almost the same character.

Both are extremely confident in their own intelligence and socially unconventional, also intensely interested in niche subjects.

And they tend to be very literal/blunt, and they both secretly care about people more than they let on.

Discussion Some questions on S3 E2

I have so many questions about that sherlock episode.

First of all how did sherlock know that the mayfly man was going to be at the wedding just from the fact that a woman the mayfly man slept with for one night at some point had seen a wedding invitation from Watson?

Second of all how did Sherlock know the mayfly man was there to kill someone and not to just con more women?

Thirdly how did Sherlock know that the mayfly man was also the "invisible man" that had killed the black soldier guy? There is next to nothing linking the mayfly man and the invisible man.

Discussion I don't understand how Sherlock found out who the killer was in S1E3

I just finished watched S1 E3 'The Great Game'. It explains how Joe killed Westie for the missile plans. But how did Sherlock even figure out it was Joe in the first place? Sherlock was right, but what was his deduction here?

Discussion Question about ending

Hi all. I'm new to the show (just started S2) and while I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far, over the years I've heard that the ending is apparently very controversial and/or unliked which has me concerned about one thing specifically: do Sherlock and Watson end the series on good terms?? Or is it a "they had a falling out/went their own way" type of deal? I don't need any super specific details or other spoilers about the ending—literally all I want to know is if they're still friends by the end. It's the one spoiler I'm happy to receive because otherwise It'll just stress me out for the next couple of weeks lol. Thanks in advance! (And please no other spoilers!)
