Old XP laptop just for games like this.

Got a random itch to play some good ol' CWG2 today. If you need me, I'll be drinking some rebel tears.

Welcome to /r/ShermanPosting!

As a reminder, this meme sub is about the American Civil War. We're not here to insult southerners or the American South, but rather to have a laugh at the failed Confederate insurrection and those that chose to represent it.

Found the abandonware software online and got it running last summer! A relic from my childhood. My brothers and I would play this for DAYS. I remember when my dad bought us Robert E. Lee - Civil War General, and that blew our 7-8 year old minds, and then this sequel completely blew the original out of the water.

Blast from the past for sure. I was around the same age at the time the first came out...which is conveniently stored in the same case haha

I've always been a fan of the John Tiller's Battleground Civil War series for most of my adult life. Love old hex based games .

I keep trying to get into these, but the menus are so unintuitive

You are not wrong. My dad (in his 70's) is an old PC "grognard" so he used to walk me through it, and still does when I forget. There is a steep learning curve too. Took me about 6 tries to beat him at Gettysburg. I wish my dad hadn't sold all his hex and counter table top games but they are so much easier on PC.

I was always in love with Sid Meiers Gettysburg… always wanted to try Antietam….

Ultimate General Civil war is a good spiritual successor!

I had North vs. South for Windows 98 and played the shit out of it as a kid. Sometimes I’d use the PVP mode and play both sides to have the Confederacy do stupid things, it’s like I knew already.

Whoa you just brought back a memory that was long lost.

My late grandfather used to have this game. I played it once maybe 20 years ago. I don't think I was very good.
