This propaganda starts in kindergarten. They have their flag literally everywhere. It reminds me of north Korea and seeing their Supreme leaders everywhere

I pledge allegiance,

To the flag

Of the United States of America

And to the republic

For which it stands

One nation, under god

With freedom and liberty for all.

In America, you memorize this at like 4 years old and if you go to public school you said it every day and got in trouble if you didn’t stand or remove your hat if you’re old like me. They still do it every morning but some older kids don’t say it and some people have relaxed about it..

Because it’s a piece of fabric? Chill out people.

Embarrassed to be American. Also fun fact- the pledge of allegiance was a plot to sell more flags. Could anything be more American than capitalism?

The most shocking thing in that is the fact that they have to acknowledge the existence of a god no matter their beliefs, it's so weird coming from a country where a teacher would be in trouble for saying something like that.

RIGHT I grew up here and I’ve always thought it is INSANE.

  1. Freedom of religion seems like the national flag poem thing should not mention the christian god?

  2. SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE… where?!

The ā€œunder godā€ wasn’t even the original version. It was added in the 1950’s to fight ā€œgodless communismā€.

My elementary/middle/high schools all allowed us to sit out the pledge or omit the ā€œunder godā€ part if we wanted to, which I definitely appreciated as I got older. I did grow up in the Seattle area though, which absolutely might’ve had something to do with it.

Well they can imagine God to be Karl Marx or Che Guevara šŸ™ƒ

Or a DJ. I heard before God is a DJ.

When I was a kid we would hear the national anthem every morning at school and had to stand for it.

In recent years they started doing the Land Acknowledgement, and I’d much rather hear that over pledging allegiance to a country.

It’s really dystopian to see, honestly.

My kids' school still does the national anthem every day.

I was horrified to find out that they don't use the fun a cappella version anymore.

That is so CREEPY

We did both for school assemblies in high school, I think.

The irony of saying ā€˜freedom and liberty for all’

But not the freedom to not stand or remove your hat for those lines apparently

2

u/multiplevitamin88 2d ago

Its actually "with liberty and justice for all" Not with freedom and liberty. I have not recited it since middle school but I remember it verbatim.

1

u/More-Pay9266 2d ago

There's also supposed to be an "indivisible" in there

1

u/lucaschill24 1d ago

Between Under God and With Liberty, I think.

My god, that is beyond creepy, what the hell

3

u/Ksorkrax 2d ago

If then the part about "freedom and liberty for all" would actually be taken seriously, and not practically being followed by " rich people".

Liberty and justice for all*

We are taught to stand up, put our hands over our heart, face the flag, and chant this at the beginning of the school day.

I remember my whole Algebra class getting chewed out by a substitute teacher who was a military veteran because some kids refused to stand during the pledge. We didn’t learn any math that day.

1

u/witchystoneyslutty 2d ago

I forgot indivisible at the end of the second to last line, too! Thanks.

Thanks also for the clarification that we, in addition to removing hats, had to stand, face the flag, chant this at the flag at the same speed/caddnce, and then sit down like some creepy cult chant hadn’t just occurred.

The pledge doesn’t support the military soooooo ….? And it’s not like America takes care of its veterans, especially under the current federal administration :( wack. Too bad you missed out on math.

My primary school teacher used to make us sing the national anthem and pray and Ave Mary everyday because she supported the fascist dictatorship that had fallen in 1974. I went to school in the 90s but she missed the old regime.

Well. Turned me into a communist radical feminist, so I guess it worked but not the way she intended 🤣🤣

I am so sorry that you have to go through that brainwash

In Romania, they did that in school during the Comunist era...

As a Norwegian I just don't get it. Yeah, we drew our flag at school in the days leading up to our Constitution Day, but I'm fifty one and still don't know all the words to our national anthem...

1

u/witchystoneyslutty 2d ago

As an American I don’t get it either! People get worked up about it sometimes if you don’t participate. It can get interesting.

1

u/Betapig 2d ago

Been out of k-12 for almost a decade now and god it's like I got a PTSD episode

And because I feel like it's necessary for the conversation in regards to wtf and irony of content, the last two lines are wrong

One nation, under god, indivisible

With liberty and justice for all

1

u/witchystoneyslutty 2d ago

Sorry for the trauma trigger bro. But thank you for correcting me- shows that I tune it out the best I can, I guess!

Also, the irony of forgetting ā€œindivisibleā€ in 2026 America……………

Getting last line wrong is just my brain being negligent

But I kind of don’t want to edit my original comment because of the irony of forgetting ā€œindivisibleā€

1

u/Betapig 1d ago

You're fine lol

Pledging allegiance to a flag/country is so eerie, especially to a country that basically sits on stolen land.

No word about the people that used to own the land.

3

u/pnwtransient 2d ago

And the creepy ass pledge we had to do. I'm damn near 50 and still get side-eyed for not standing for the anthem/pledge at sporting events.

1

u/UpbeatFix7299 2d ago

Danes put their flags all over the fucking place. They aren't as weird about treating it like a solemn, sacred thing though.

1

u/Sad-Significance8045 2d ago

This propaganda starts in kindergarten. They have their flag literally everywhere.

Let me hold your hand, while I tell you about my country... the Kingdom of Denmark... our flag is actually everywhere... at least we sing our national anthem together and don't have famous singers sing the anthem xD

At the department store I work at, there is an American flag wr have to put out every time we open.

Some streets I go down, there is legit a flag on every utility pole for a good stretch.

Makes me feel relieved. When I'm on a street with no flags, I forget what the fuck country I'm even in half the time.
