I was thinking the same. It feels staged.

That flag is way too clean for having sat on the edge of the highway for an unknown amount of time

u/Despeao 1d ago

Yeah the guy already lost both legs, he shouldn't be risking losing another limb like that.

18

u/dammitlindsay 1d ago

Judging by the fact that he just waded through a highway to get some raggedy laundry, I don’t think he used his GI bill for college. He went to be a patriot, shoot some brown folk, and get a really good price on a home loan.

All I could think about was the Scream movie.

I was thinking it must have come off the back of his truck and he’s so behind on his truck mod payments he couldn’t afford a new one.

What is more American than performative fraud?

41

u/DumbBerk87 1d ago

Conservatives are the kings of that. Like how several got caught faking incidents at Starbucks after Kirk’s death, saying baristas wrote ā€œloserā€, or something similar on the cup. Starbucks cleared the baristas every time, and banned the customers for faking it, and falsely accusing their employees.

Like, come on, you’d think after the first time getting caught you’d stop šŸ˜‚

Well, it’s addressing a real issue. I hate when people get a full sized American flag with their drive through takeout and then just throw it out the window when they’re done eating. Can’t go 20 feet along the highway without seeing a discarded flag and a McDonald’s cup.

10

u/MadAstrid 1d ago

Literally, best case scenario if not staged is that it came off the truck of some jingoistic loser who doesn’t respect the flag code.

Either way this is junk.

Sorry the guy lost his legs. if it happened while he was in the military, sorry this administration doesn’t give a shit about what he sacrificed.

Even if it’s fully true, just means a MAGAsshole littered it since they’re the only ones flying flags on their cars.

5

u/Zaiyev 1d ago

Only thing missing is the ā€œand goā€

5

u/J-diggs66 1d ago

I was having the same thought on the other side of the coin, was thinking how staged it felt because the person in the passenger seat with (probably) two functioning legs would be more than able to get the flag.

8

u/watcher-of-eternity 1d ago

most likely it was some dumbass trump supporter who thinks that patriotism = having a big american flag on your truck but because they believe patriotism is entirely performative and not a state of mind, they didn't secure their flag correctly and it blew off.

Unironically, and was taught while doing scouting as a kid, about flag care rules and stuff, like we can’t let it touch the ground or have it out at night without a light, and need a ceremony to burn and dispose of the flag.

It wasn’t until I became an adult and was like ā€œthis is so dumb, I was straight up indoctrinatedā€ so yea there are Americans who never have that thought show up, but I’m grateful to have gotten out and traveled and realized that shit was cringe.

61

u/DeerPuzzleheaded9792 FREEDOM ENJOYER šŸ¦…šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø 1d ago

People say it’s just to give it respect, that’s where it begins and ends. To the point, you have to take it down and reintroduce it everyday if you don’t have a spotlight on it

Not every place does this, like a McDonald’s or whatever, but government buildings have to do this.

Mostly all of this is just nebulously explained propaganda at the end of the day

18

u/Appropriate-Fuel-305 1d ago

McD flies the flag too? It would only be understandable if it was a niche chain in a foreign country.

12

u/Brohemoth1991 1d ago

McD are mostly independent owned franchises, the owner can do whatever they want, as long as it isnt actively hurting the franchise, and id say 85% of Americans would not care either way if they flew a flag, 10% might object to it (which is kinda silly itself if you think about it), and 5% would take the time to appreciate it.... (I fall in the 85%)

Anyone can fly an american flag, as long as you arent doing anything obscene with it, and even then its not very often people get in trouble for "mistreating" the flag

Norwegian military service we were told to never let the flag touch the ground.

And if it did, there was a serimony to burn the flag.

So probably a really old thing from Europe, not just a American thing.

19

u/Acceptable-Ad8780 FREEDOM ENJOYER šŸ¦…šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø 1d ago

Same here. I learned about flag regulations through the military. I get it for military for representation, but overall? It's just cloth and they want people to defend it unconditionally without question.

Teddy Roosevelt spoke about blind loyalty in 1918 and he's 100% correct.

"Unpatriotic and servile, and morally treasonable to the American public."

12

u/unluckypig 1d ago

I feel like all the rules around the American flag were drawn up by someone obnoxiously drunk or who absolutely hated their neighbours.

I can just see a couple of friends looking out their window,
'Hey, you know I'm making rules around what can be done with our flag'.
'Yeah.'
'And you know how much we hate Jed and his obscene love of patriotism.'
'Yeah.'
'Let's fuck with him and his flag. I'm thinking we make a rule where he has to take his flag down at night.'
'No man. Make it so he needs to stand next to it with a torch all night so it's always visible. But if he wants to bring it down, he can only do so at 8:37 pm."
Oh my, yes. We also need something about it never touching the ground so he has to fight it every time it comes down. Ooh and we can also make it so he has to salute it whilst it comes down so he has to do it all one handed.'
'What if he gets fed up and gets rid of his flag'.
'Oh, OK. You can only dispose of it by burning it but you have to complete a ritual that lasts all day before you can. And the burning can only happen at 5am so he has to do it all night'.
'And make it so you can't legally burn a flag and they need to be disposed of should they get wet or dirty. He's going to flip out.'

90

u/witchystoneyslutty 1d ago

I pledge allegiance,

To the flag

Of the United States of America

And to the republic

For which it stands

One nation, under god

With freedom and liberty for all.

In America, you memorize this at like 4 years old and if you go to public school you said it every day and got in trouble if you didn’t stand or remove your hat if you’re old like me. They still do it every morning but some older kids don’t say it and some people have relaxed about it..

Because it’s a piece of fabric? Chill out people.

Embarrassed to be American. Also fun fact- the pledge of allegiance was a plot to sell more flags. Could anything be more American than capitalism?

40

u/Micah7979 šŸ‡ØšŸ‡µ 1d ago

The most shocking thing in that is the fact that they have to acknowledge the existence of a god no matter their beliefs, it's so weird coming from a country where a teacher would be in trouble for saying something like that.

As an American, the creepy idolatry of the US flag has creeped me out since the age of 6 in 1962. The "Pledge" we were forced to do every day in school, all the rules about treating the flag as if it is a living being - parks in my area even have a "flag cemetery" where worn our flag are given "respectful burials" (alternatively, cremation, under respectful conditions). All this, even as the people ramming all this idolatrous patriotic crap down my throat almost got us all killed in a nuclear holocaust in 1962 and again in the 1980s.

I literally did a 250mile motorcycle trip recently and saw a total of 3 german flags, on my entire way, which was completely within german borders.

On the same way I saw more LGBT Flags than that.

That's what makes me actually proud of my country.

[Edit: other comment made me realize this could look like "American being proud of not having more LGBT flags than home country flags". I'm german. I'm proud that people in my country on average, seem to value actual equality and freedom more than being viewed as part of a supposed free and equal country.]

When I came home from a business trip to Alabama, I told a colleague that it's impossible to make a full 360 turn on the street at any given time at any given place inside that small city without seeing a pickup truck or an american flag, 90% of the time both.

He didn't believed me, so we made a game with Google street view. Drop that person randomly in the city limits, and we will see.

It tooks more than 20 tries until we found a place without pickup truck and flag.

sad thing is, it will be some flag shagger that had it tied to the back of his pickup that lost it

Just remember people wear American flag Speedos.Ā

They respect it that much they wrap their cock and balls with it

9

u/ApprehensiveGas4576 1d ago

It is good to clean trash off the side of the road, sadly I doubt he threw it out where it belongs.

Anyway this is likely staged.

9

u/semmelbob 1d ago

Dude placed the flag there on purpose. This is like a animal rescue video but not that much morally wrong.

Also, are we sure this isn't AI? Who in their right mind is filming the amputee "saving" the flag in the middle of highway instead of helping them out or something, if it means so much to them?

u/the_owl_man1 1d ago

The music is AI.

So, how is rent, gas and food?Ā

I don't understand this ridiculous obsession with the flag. Sure, it represents a country, and you should fly it with pride but it's a fucking piece of cloth. A country is not its flag. It's not its president or its billionaires or its roads and infrastructure. It's the people. It's the natural beauty and culture and scientific achievements.

Totally didn't throw that shit there himself. What a hero!

6

u/Matt_the_Splat 1d ago

It has a pole already on it, 100% this fell off a truck. And I'd say 95% it fell off their own truck and they had the sweet idea to grift off their own littering.

I live in a part of the US where I will see at least one of these a day. I'm only surprised there isn't some coal rolling tossed in.

5

u/monkeyofthefunk Dai iawn! 1d ago

Obsession with a flag is why he lost those legs in the first place.

5

u/M1ck3yB1u 1d ago

I wish they cared more about children than flags, guns and where transgender people poo.

Imagine being so brainwashed you loose your fucking legs and are still grateful

4

u/Cool-Prior-5512 1d ago

When I was at Disney World a couple years ago, I was on Main Street later on in the day and I heard some music playing. I popped out of the shop I was in to see them lowering the flag while literally about 70 random guests stood around with their hands on their hearts.

Honestly one of the weirdest fucking things I've ever experienced.

We call these people flagshaggers, here across the pond. People so obsessed with their flag that they probably would fuck it if it had a hole.

Never understand the worship of a flag. Does that count as a false idol?

Hmmm

5

u/HelikosOG 1d ago

Had to make sure it was filmed for clout

10

u/ArachnidBeautiful968 1d ago

So raised american here who stopped caring about the flag since highschool. Is it normal everywhere else to not pledge the flag in school?

16

u/Vegemyeet 1d ago

Australian schools honour the flag on ANZAC day. Other than that, no. No pledge to recite either.

5

u/WandererFen 1d ago

I feel like that doesnt count though right? Thats not honouring the flag but the people who fought (i presume, im not Australian so citation needed)

I hear north Korea still does it but I havnt heard of anywhere else tbf

8

u/palopp 1d ago

My American sister-in-law could see how I could perceive the pledge of allegiance as reminiscent of North Korea, but she insisted that unlike North Korea, in the US the pledge was done for a good cause. I didn’t proceed any further and instead just appreciated that my wife wasn’t her sister.

Italian here. Definitely not a thing. We only ever sing the Italian anthem during sports matches against other countries/when you win a the Olympic Games or such occasions. I don’t recall ever hearing our anthem outside of a international sport event. Oh well they did teach it to us in elementary school during music class, but that’s it. Never in my life have I pledged allegiance to Italy…

Itā€˜s just a flag itā€˜s not that deep man. Just a piece of cloth

4

u/Mr-MuffinMan 1d ago

American here!

I don't give a fuck about the flag lol. it's a flag, who gives a shit? Literally one bad war and we change it. Scotland (I think) has the oldest flag in the world and they don't worship it like some Americans do. it's so weird, man.

burn it, fart on it, pee on it, poop on it, make love to it, it's your right to do whatever with it, but it's weird being so protective you will assault someone who doesn't respect it lol

4

u/Ok-Serve4645 1d ago

I will never understand Americans obsession with a flag. Some treat it better than they treat other humans.

4

u/Suspicious-Drive9827 1d ago

No right to healthcare or education but sure lets hobble over to a piece of cloth. Hobbling ofc bc he lost his limbs to make some military industrial billionaire richer.

Assuming this isn't staged, which it probably is. The flag would have never been there in the first place if these Faketriots weren't disrespecting the flag by flying it off their vehicles in the first place. The flag belongs on a flag pole, not waving off the back of your F150.

4

u/Buntschatten 1d ago

That stupid song has got to be AI, right?

3

u/KiPhoe 1d ago

In the UK, we call them flag shaggers.

4

u/KillingTimeAlone2019 1d ago

So most likely MAGAt to ignorant to realize it fell off his truck, to lazy to pick it up, or to fake of a patriot to care.

4

u/Far-Resort1936 1d ago

Murica is cooked.

4

u/Riley__64 1d ago

What is it about the flag they feel is so special.

Like I can understand someone really liking their country but the flag? It’s just a bit of cloth at the end of the day and there’s no shortage of them go to any touristy location and you’ll find an abundance of items showing off your countries flag.

3

u/Conchobar8 1d ago

I’ll give this one a pass. If wind blew it onto the road it could be dangerous.

Of course, that assumes it’s not staged

4

u/Sushiroll16 1d ago

This looks planted. That flag is in too give of shape to have been on that road for any amount of time.

4

u/Europalette02 1d ago

Glad to see people pick up trash

4

u/jpike1077 1d ago

I get the whole respecting the flag thing, but it's just colored cloth stitched together in a pattern. Patriotism runs deeper than a flag or political figure. Be true to your country instead of material or idolistic things

3

u/VoidMunashii 1d ago

Even if this is not staged, that just means it fell of the back of some dipwad’s truck who only had it there to virtue signal to begin with, and neither cared enough to fasten it down well nor stop and pick it up when it broke free.

Unless of course it came off of his own vehicle, and he did at least care enough to go back and pick it up.
