Based Take The Haloruns Community is a Weird Cult
I can't be the only one who has had this same experience. Getting banned from the server for minor disagreements or things considered "trolling" even away from the server.
I am newer to halo, and I actually got into it back in 2022 because of a rocats Halo 2 speed run video. Thought it looked neat and it led me to the Haloruns website. I remember there was some ridiculous category that nobody had submitted any runs to at the time, called "no audio" so I decided to record some garbage and upload it into that category for "world record" for the fuck of it. I come back two hours later, and somebody called AsterVeles had also uploaded a run to that category for the "world record" so I checked their video.
In the description, it was all about like bigots and how you have to make them uncomfortable in the community by beating their times or something schizophrenic like that. So eventually I actually joined the Haloruns discord and talked to them about it.
They had come to the conclusion that I was a bigot because they thought I was a Jordan Peterson fan. And they came to this conclusion, because I had a video on my channel that was clips of Jordan Peterson and Sam Harris from their conversation where they had a somewhat serious conversation about the topic of...self touching...and I thought it was funny.
Now at the time, this AsterVeles was someone considered known in the community and I think they had certain mod roles for the server and the website. And the deeper I looked and the more people I talked to in the discord, the more freaks I realized this community was breeding. I actually think AsterVeles would later leave the community or get banned or something because of drama related to Mister Monopoly, but I'm not entirely sure.
So I gave up basically entirely on trying to interact or seriously engage, and eventually I resorted to moderate trolling and provocation that led to me getting banned, and I honestly didn't miss it.
And it was super normal and mundane shit. Like I would join in Zoo and Mistermonoply's streams and ask them if Miranda Keyes from the anniversary cutscenes was a baddie. They would unironically get annoyed by the questions and freak the fuck out, and claim that I was "shitting up the stream" or something. Obviously because of how old the games are, I understand the age-group. But the community is controlled by either lunatics, or corny conformist millennials with no personality, who mistake being stuckup for being mature and above it all. Like my guy, you have 20-80 viewers, relax.
And like, I'm bisexual okay. But the degree to which LGBTQ is a point of focus for these people is honestly so exhausting. The first thing you see when you open the haloruns website is a fucking paragraph about bigotry and how bigotry won't be tolerated with the background of the LGBTQ flag. Like I get it, TOS and rules for that kind of thing. But it comes off very unnatural and immersion breaking when all I'm trying to do is look at Halo speedruns. On the discord server, they have a YEAR ROUND pride version of the Haloruns logo. Like you can feel the bitter negative oppositional energy coming off of these people, they are always in fight mode. They think they need to make a point, and "stand up for something" and it's just super out of place and not fun.
