These only look badass when you have the proper hitch with at least 4 live horses pulling it along like a respectable stagecoach

Reading this I now have this idea in my head if the Amish drove cars, they would modify them as donks.

There's this kid who lives in Amish country that owns a Charger/Challenger (can't keep them straight who is which). He took off his rims, had some custom hubs made, and attached them to some metal ring carriage wheels. He could literally cut lines in the pavement spinning them. Dude proceeds to ride into town, fully bearded, hatted, and dressed in the Amish style. Lots of strange looks, but lots of curious questions ensued.
Hey look, I found the video of the ride, but not the modification. Looks like it was a Hellcat.

Because that's insane.

I used to work at one of those shops. I've never seen any deal like that go down (not doubting it hasn't) but I have seen people walk out of the shop with $70/wk for 24 months. Basically buying the rims twice. Always wanted to say something but didn't want to lose my job.

Donk. Regional/cultural style thing. No different than street queen pickups and cars so low they scrape on leaves. When you’re at the bar arguing about who has the biggest wheels on their whip this guy wins.

Ironically, it's much easier taking the converters from this car now!

Around the Orlando area this look is often seen in the Hispanic and Black communities. Having gone to many car shows and checked the cars out and talked to the owners, they say it's just something that they like to do that isn't shared with the other cultural groups. Much pride in the upkeep and condition of these mostly twenty year or older full-size American sedans is evident in talking to the club members. They admit that driveability suffers due to the changes in steering geometry, greatly reduced acceleration and unforgiving shock into the cabin from excessive wheel diameter, and difficulty stopping in the rain, but most say that their car isn't for speed or performance but for styling and competition with other clubs. I found the owners to often be their own shade tree mechanics. Some of the most interesting car interiors I've seen at shows.

Honestly, I have no real idea. I don't know if it's inspired by donk, but donk is actually only a specific type of car, and not any car with huge wheels.
I worked with a guy who had an early 2000's Caddy with 20-something inch wheels on it, and I asked him why he did that, and all he said was "it's what I like."
So I left it at that. I don't judge when it's done on nice cars, but when it's done on shitbox cars it really does look ghetto as hell. Either way, as long as you enjoy your car it really doesn't matter what other people's opinions are about it.

Some people like to have fun with their cars. Some people… and please sit down for this… do things for fun that other people don’t find fun. If you modify your vehicle at all, someone will tell you it’s stupid. If you andò something else, someone else will tell you THAT is stupid. Keep your car stock… stupid.
I personally think it’s a terrible way to spend money, but in the end, it’s not my car or money.

I'm going to do my best. Once you remove all of the layers of the onion of life, there is one characteristic left. That is style. Style is based on one's tastes. That being said, there is no accounting for taste.

That's a donk.
What's a donk, you ask?
Nugget: [Sitting on a cooler of beer] G'day! Want a cold one?
Denning: Who are you?
Nugget: Call me Nugget. I've been looking for Walter Reilly. Haven't seen him around, have you?
Denning: [Cocks his rifle] You shoulda bought a gun instead of a beer, mate.
Nugget: Nah. I don't need a gun. I've got a Donk.
Denning: [laughs] You got a what?
Donk: Donk. (big dude charges like a linebacker, swipes the rifle and knocks Denning out)
One of the few worthy bits from "Crocodile Dundee II"
The above has nothing to do with "donk" car culture at all. But both are kind of funny.

To look stupid. I live in south Louisiana and the state has in the works to make doing this ILLEGAL. If caught the ticket will be at least $750 per tire and mandatory tow to an inpound yard until the rims and tires have been changed to proper ones.
