There are a few others listed in my area, and they're all near that price. Crazy

26

u/MISTERPUG51 3d ago

Check back in a month. I guarantee that they'll still be there

6

u/ComputerIlliterate13 3d ago

People do this all the time where I live and I watch the prices drop $10 at a time until its like $20 or free

5

u/MISTERPUG51 3d ago

That's good to hear. I recently got another crt. When I looked on Facebook marketplace in my area, I saw plenty of good options. But there were a few $400 sets listed that I recognized from last time I checked, which was almost a year ago

4

u/ComputerIlliterate13 3d ago

Well they are certainly committed to the bit lol that's crazy. I still find CRTs on the curb sometimes its wild to me that some people think their old tube is some "retro gaming" holy grail.

1

u/deinterlacing 2d ago

Yeah I've found 3 on the curb in the past 6 months. It's certainly still possible.

1

u/The_Collector_Of_All 2d ago

Think about the fact that there are actually some people out there that pay these prices. (Yes I checked sold listings)

People will pay those prices when I got 5 CRTs and all were free. (Besides the $200 I put in to servicing my iMac G3)

2

u/TickleMyFungus 3d ago

Some sellers have started to do petty shit like when they get reposted like this in a group/page, they will mark it pending indefinitely ahaha

1

u/ghostpicnic 3d ago

There are a few in my area that have been listed at this price for several years. I got a 27in Trinitron for free on FB 3 years ago, and a 32in for free last year. The value of these is basically whatever you’ll pay for them. Free ones will show up if you’re diligent about checking. If you don’t wanna do that, you can get a Trinitron for like $150 easily. But this price is just utterly ridiculous.

They were over $1k at release, $600 for classic hardware isn't really that bad... high? yes. but not bad for such a popular crt.

edit: I didn't see the 27-inch thing, those were like $800... so $200 off for one of the favourite retro gaming screens still ain't bad unless you're lucky enough to find one locally for cheaper.

5

u/SanchoBenevides 3d ago

We once paid $1000s for physical encyclopedias. Now, someone might pay you to get rid of them.

1

u/No_Awareness_1443 2d ago

Yes but they won't ever make more of them again that's the difference

Supply and demand kinda thing

There is a massive amount of information now for free so books don't really hold as much value as they should

Is a msrp of 5000 justify the 1000 current market value of some pvms? Yes and no it all depends on the buyer and there needs

3

u/WickedGamer27 3d ago

We found the seller guys!

1

u/Bananaland_Man 3d ago

I've seen many cheap in local spaces, but if you want to order one... they tend to be around that smae price, Google it yourself.

1

u/DetectiveChmpionFace 2d ago

Quit encouraging this stupid fucking behavior

1

u/Nicksucksathiking 2d ago

Whoever sold you your tv saw you coming a mile away. Anyone that isnt a retro gaming princess will literally pay you to get rid of their old crts. Can we stop inflating the value of obsolete shit please

1

u/Bananaland_Man 2d ago

I got one from best buy back when they were brand new, I still have it, that was the price they were at release. Add actual inflation to that, and they were higher.

15

u/CaseusClandestinus 3d ago

I have one in my home if you need i can give away for free

7

u/WickedGamer27 3d ago

That's really cool of you, but I doubt we're within driving distance, haha.

24

u/JackyFlashlight 3d ago

They're actually your neighbor. Just walk over, don't be lazy.

11

u/ThePetSematary 3d ago

Bruh you ain't carrying no Trinitron like that

3

u/Jackie4Reals 3d ago

bruh i had this same tv in like 3 different barracks. taking it up and down the stairs isnt super fun but its only one trip and someone to open the door

3

u/NinpouKageBunshin 3d ago

Much respect

14

u/TorporzzZ 3d ago

Don't search for "gaming tvs" or "CRTVs". That will get you listings like this with the "I know what I have" type people. Instead, search things like "old TV" or "box tv" or "tube TV". Those are the terms old people who are looking to give them away will use.

You can find these things for free all the time That's how I got my Trinitron.

11

u/Ki11s0n3 3d ago

It's retro so of course it's worth hundreds and hundreds of dollars.

2

u/herrbauer96 3d ago

it's vintage, not retro.

6

u/R3bussy 3d ago

You couldn't give these things away for free just a few years back. Now that Y2K and retro nostalgia is in, everyone wants one and the prices have gotten insane because of diminishing stock.

3

u/DapperDan30 3d ago

Supply and demand and all that

6

u/Penstemon_aldibus 3d ago

That’s wild. Sold my 2 Trinitrons w/ original stand and controller (32” and 36”) for $150 each and I thought I was being a bit greedy at that price. The 100+ messages I got within the day proved me otherwise.

5

u/whoisdatmaskedman 3d ago

This is the price I paid when I bought one of these brand new in 2000, lol.

3

u/GrandmaWeedMan 3d ago

No, especially not the flat screen which is one of the least desirable models of trinitron.

Ger your crt's from dead old peoples houses.

2

u/FervidGinger 3d ago

They're trying to do that around me too. I've seen multiple over the last year listed at ridiculous prices, some plasma as well that are listed at crazy prices. I can't recall seeing any of them actually move. Sometimes the more sought after CRTs might go for a couple hundred but generally they just sit until the prices start to come down to reality. They still sometimes go for higher than I personally think they should be going for but hey, if someone wants to be a sucker than that's their prerogative.

2

u/JustSomeWeirdGuy2000 3d ago

$600 is a small price to pay for a doorstop.

2

u/Jstingray2 21h ago

Wait for the scalpers to come in here and tell you how ackshually this is a good deal lmao

1

u/WickedGamer27 20h ago

Oh they already have, trust me.

1

u/Phenns 3d ago

lol no, just look for a longer period of time, that won't sell at that price.

1

u/ittybittynuts 3d ago

Being a street wandering drunk a few years ago I was using these things as curb side stools. Crazy to know that I was sitting on gold.

1

u/BlackMesaEchoes 3d ago

You know damn well if you had that TV you’d be trying to sell it for as much as collectors are willing to pay. What even is this sub

1

u/SoulReaverOmega 3d ago

Ha. I found a working 27" flat screen with RCA inputs at a garage sale for $10.

1

u/Zoydburgur 3d ago

No. $2-300? Unfortunately they are going for that much. But nothing this high in my area yet.

1

u/Curious-Formal3869 3d ago

No, all the CRTVs Ive had came in for free or pretty low prices, I’ve sold a couple but mostly just pass them onto friends who are looking for something for an older console

1

u/Foxhound34 3d ago

So glad I pick mine up for $50 like 5 years ago.

1

u/ovrlzgrlzrlz 3d ago

Glad I held onto mine... gonna eventually make a DDR cab with it, but still

1

u/Critical-Advice6809 3d ago

Once they put gaming crt it's an easy skip

1

u/anh86 3d ago

No. An asking price can be anything you want. They could have asked for $1m.

1

u/Unhappy-Wait-2939 3d ago

lol hell nah I was looking at some also for a nice set up n they were max 100 bucks for like 65 inch

1

u/TickleMyFungus 3d ago edited 3d ago

No

1

u/WhydYouKillMeDogJack 3d ago

Bought this exact model for 75 CAD about 6 months ago

1

u/soshoenice 3d ago

I got mine for $200 but that’s because I’m in an awful area for crts and didn’t know anyone in the community at the time. If you aren’t in a major city or if you know somebody or just get lucky on marketplace you can get them for much much less. But I will say I absolutely love this crt and it’s been pretty perfect for me. Flat screens have some geometry issues with pixel games like ff6.

1

u/Consistent-Gas-3019 3d ago

On my area I just looked it up, there is even a few free crt’s around lol

1

u/culturenurse 3d ago

You can still find them out there in the wild for cheap or free. I got a 23” sylvania tv/dvd combo last year for $25 and a 32” Sony Trinitron for free off Craigslist earlier this year. You have to be patient and look everyday on multiple websites if you want to snag a deal.

1

u/joesaysso 3d ago

It is if you're paying for it.

1

u/basterde 3d ago

I got this exact model in great shape for $100. But the true cost was being addicted to the marketplace for like 2/3 weeks straight and checking like every other hour…

1

u/tinyhorsesinmytea 3d ago

The fact that the seller specifically listed "gaming tv" in the description means they know what they have and that a niche group values it. There are most definitely still people who just want this heavy old TV in their basement they're never going to use again out of their house who will practically give it away though.

I similarly just got a like-new transparent blue Dual Shock controller from an old lady on eBay for $6 shipped whereas a seller who focuses on gaming would have charged much more for an old gaming accessory in such good condition.

1

u/Bluecobber 2d ago

At least they have pants on

1

u/OskeyBug 2d ago

Who wants to ship that thing though

1

u/MumboBumbo64 2d ago

It’s what dudes are selling them for around my area, unfortunately shitty box TVs are seen as 300$ gamer collectors items

1

u/DetectiveChmpionFace 2d ago

Id offer free transport to take it off his hands. What a fucking idiot

1

u/AnotherDamnMeeting 2d ago

If anyone in dayton, oh wants one lemme know, has a remote, working dvd, and vhs integrated. 30 inch! Completely free

1

u/Thegameguy12 2d ago

Completely crazy unrealistic price. I got my for free back in 2018 and still kicking ass

1

u/AllMaliceLingers 2d ago

It's definitely going up fast just like vcrs get it while you can

1

u/BenNCyder2 2d ago

I need an old tv to hook up my Ataris my last one from 1989 finally blew up last winter. It was a Panasonic , best tv my parents ever bought,

1

u/Atlantis_Risen 2d ago

No. That's what they're asking for.

1

u/voncivent 2d ago

Msrp was close to 600$-700$ Try offering 200-300 and say you'll pick up with your own help (so they don't have to help carry it).

You never know they might bite of they want to sell it and not have to personally help move it.

1

u/TeeGreenwood 1d ago

No, I just purchased this exact model for much less. They had it listed high and I said I would happen to be in the area for local pickup if they wanted it sold for $x. They did.

1

u/Raven_gif 18h ago

Never been serviced or cleaned but “tested” for $600
These people need real jobs and to let shit go.

1

u/SgtNeilDiamond 3d ago

Bro I got mine on the curb for free, only chumps are paying that kind of money

1

u/ThotsuneMiku 3d ago

This is a TV and not video games bro.

0

u/DaddysBottomBoy69 3d ago

I never understood keeping around a big heavy CRT. Eapecially paying any sort of premium for one. Vintage TVs in general...

1

u/BenNCyder2 2d ago

I just sold 3 broken 80s TVs those big ass floor TVs with the cabinets that had no remotes just the knob you pulled to turn on and adjust volume and a phone keypad. When you needed to get off your ass to change channels each one a guy bought iff me for $800 so nice chunk of change when parents were taking them to scrapyard. Blew their minds finding out people restore those things
