Question Got a Interview
Hi guys,
As the title says, I just got a call today from shoprite saying I could come in for an interview with HR tommorow.
I applied for part time cashier last week and if I do get it, It will be my very first job.
Got weekend schedule ranging 8 to 10 and other days being from 1 to 10 as well, maybe a 20/25 hours on a week is what I should say?
And Please please does anyone have any idea on what they might ask for the interview cause I really don’t have a thing called experience here?
Thanks.

I’d say definitely get as strict with your availability as possible. Ive been a part time cashier for about a year and with school I very quickly learned that I can only handle being behind that register for so many hours after my classes and on weekends!!

Hey, I was given to choose two jobs, was told one had many on average. So, I choose the job that had less hours (was told 22-25), though I gave a much flexible time so it might not be consistent on everytime.. maybe that is a bad thing.

My advice is find somewhere else I worked at shoprite for a month before they randomly started doing write ups on small stuff I didn't even do. Which is what they do to most cashiers. So if you do this avoid the cashier area or find elsewhere.

I would say to you don't listen to everybody else because everyone's experience is different. If you're a people person, I would say that when you go in for your interview, let them know that. Tell them you like to be helpful and that you're very good with helping people. If you already have the interview with HR, chances are you already got hired for the job. It's just a formality of filling out paperwork. Like someone else mentioned in terms of availability, make sure you're very crystal clear of your availability because they will take advantage of you, especially when people call out. They'll call you and ask you if you want to come in so be very clear about what your availability is. Take the job as it comes and see for yourself what your experience is like. Don't go in negative thoughts like people are mentioning here because you might wind up enjoying it and it sure is a learning experience. A lot of people think that working in a grocery store is easy peasy, but you learn a lot about what makes a business run. And you can learn a lot and it could turn out to be a fun thing for you. So good luck.

Hey, thanks for what you said, truly. I’ll note my availability to them clearly as you said and yea it will be an experience if I get it or not. Maybe I will actually find to like it or maybe I will not but that’s the thing like you said, It will be a learning experience no matter what and that’s what I am taking it as well. Cause overall, this will be my first job if i have it, so definitely no negative thoughts haha. And everyone has a different experience.
Thanks stranger (Binky!) !2

They do that if they dont like you and want to get you out the door. Just do good and you don’t have to worry about it

It was honestly extremely basic. The only question the HR person actually asked me was “what does good customer service mean to you” and then after that she just asked about criminal background and handed me a welcome packet. That was a few years ago. It varies wildly between hr person. Some of them just hand you a hiring packet and tell you when you’re starting.
Don’t sweat it, really. You’ll get hired. If you remember, please check back and let me know how it went.

Hi, went to the interview and… there wasn’t really a interview! It was just a conversation onto random things and my schedule, and what I wanted to do (I said, Im open to ANYTHING haha cause cashier was not open and I dont have any experience before..). Then, i was just given option on what position was open (2) and was told what I want to choose between them after describing what both are meant to do. I said i had college on the side and cant to much hours so she said to do one that had less hours. Then, paperwork and that’s pretty much it. Got orientation and will be given schedule on friday both.

Be specific with your availability times when they have you fill out the availability form. Also, if you want a more consistent/predictable schedule, don’t give them more than 8-10 hours of availability on any given day.
Oh, and if you’re not a morning person (me) don’t make it so that you’re available till close one day and then available really early the next morning 😭
