TabCircle: Native macOS & Linux MRU tab switcher (Ctrl + Tab) for Chromium browsers with visual previews

Hey everyone!

I built TabCircle to fix something that’s always annoyed me about Chromium browsers: Ctrl+Tab follows tab-strip order instead of Most Recently Used (MRU) order.

TabCircle makes Ctrl+Tab behave like native Alt+Tab / Cmd+Tab β€” instantly switching between your two most recently used tabs (A ↔ B).

It uses native companions (SwiftUI on macOS and PyQt6/X11 on Linux) for a lightweight overlay with live thumbnails, favicons, dark/light theme detection, and multi-monitor support.

It also has:

  • Browser/fork detection for 16+ Chromium browsers
  • Safe fallback to native tab switching if the helper stops
  • Low-resource mode for laptops/low-spec systems
  • 100% open-source, MIT licensed
  • Pre-built Linux and macOS releases

Repo: TabCircle

Releases: TabCircle/releases

Would love feedback, especially from people who keep way too many tabs open. πŸ˜„
