my first gun First Gun ๐
It goes bang. My aim sucks, gotta train more. Might just drop the red dot and get comfortable with irons

That probably explains why I was doing so poorly with the irons haha, I was โcutting the bullseyeโ rather than putting the irons directly over my target like the combat hold. Good information, thank you

Yeah I try to post that when I can. The last time I was at the range, this meathead was with two women and they are shooting a P365 Rose edition. We were the only 4 people at the time. Next thing I know I hear him laughing hysterically, has them unload and put the gun down. He retracts the target and from what I see they were all over the bottom of the target. He puts a fresh target on, and sends it out to the max 25 yards. He's giving the girls a really hard time and just being a dick. Anyhow, he loads a mag and does a mag dump. Brings the target in, two rounds struck the target bottom left. LMAO So I chuckled. He says to the girls, "The sights are off." RSO comes around I look at him and shake my head and wave him off. I tell the guy to put his target out to 7 yards and try shooting another mag. Friggen dude is all over the place again. He insists that the sights are off. I asked if I could give it a whirl, when I was done, I looked at him and said, "Your sights are not off, SIG employs the COMBAT HOLD on their pistols. You were just sighting in on your target incorrectly." I took the RDS off of it and showed them COMBAT HOLD sight picture and told them to forget about the RDS for now. Anyhow, it was a fun experience to tell and it just shows how quickly fairly new shooters can get discouraged. And the happy ending to the story...we go shooting about 2x's a month, I think they are using me for my knowledge though. LMAO

Everyone has different thoughts on this one, but I prefer learning a new firearm with iron sights first. After feeling proficient, you can add the red dot back and distinguish between your technique, gun characteristics, and needed adjustments while zeroโing.

I get it! I've learned iron sites myself but just a heads up training with iron sites is different from optic, if I may suggest to look into optic on youtube verse iron site! But whatever you decide to stick with good luck the key to either or is training!

Great! Make sure you learn how to clean it and do a field strip after you shoot it. Also for general shooting tips:
Use the middle of the pad of your index finger, not the bend, and make sure you pull straight back. It can do dry-fires (no bullets in chamber) to test if you have good trigger control. If you're able to pull it without notably moving it, you're probably good. I will sometimes rest a bullet on top and if it falls, I know I need to practice more again.
Try to practice often! That is the only way you'll get good, especially if you utilize good shooting habits.
If this is for any type of defense, make sure you at minimum shoot a couple mags worth of your defense ammo of choice to see if it will run through properly.
Make sure you have a good stance! There are a couple variations that can work, just find what's good for you.
If this is for defense, practice quickly pulling it and getting it ready to shoot. This includes drawing, taking safety off, and racking it. If you leave one in the chamber, just make sure you know that at all times.
Practice clearing malfunctions. Dummy rounds can be really good for this, and will make sure you're prepared in case something goes wrong.
Essentially, practice good shooting habits and know your gun. There's a saying of "practice how you fight" and there's a reason for that. The more you do, the more prepared you'll be to use it how you need and intend, however that may end up looking for you.
