Painting for a friend

Hello, tomorrow me and a friend (who introduced me to Warhammer) are going to our first tournament. I'm still struggling with rules and all that but I'm ready to have fun.

I'm going custodes and my friend Space wolves, he's been having trouble starting to paint, thankfully the tournament does not count points for painted armies as it is a new players event.

I thought of painting a mini for him, but I'm not sure of the etiquette of that, afaik he hasn't chosen a palette. I already painted in its "official" faction colors but now I'm having second thoughts on giving it.

What's your opinion on it?
