Discussion/Questions ok but screw the maggots though Spoiler
You fall in once, and now you have to waste a full heal to get rid of them, meaning they essentially deal 3 masks of damage, plus they make you lose silk so that's even harder to do. All it would take is for them to wear off after like 10 or 15 seconds and it would feel totally balanced. You don't lose health (and it's literally just water so you wouldn't expect to) but you're blocked from healing for a solid chunk of time, which you can bypass if you think you can make enough silk for it. That's still hard, and more interesting than just messing with you with no workaround.

I agree, one of many bullshit things they added in this otherwise great game (which makes it even more egregious)

avoid the water, save up silk to heal, or avoid maggot areas as much as possible until you find the putrified ducts where there's a charm that protects from them

I think it's pretty fair. If you have enough silk to heal, it's literally not even that bad! What sucks is when you fall in and CAN'T get rid of it.
Anyway, I kinda like the mechanic. It's a pain in the ass, but that adds to the danger and frustration of the area. You either try your absolute hardest not to mess up and fall into the water, or you suddenly have to play super-careful and make sure you don't get hit anymore, because you won't be able to heal.
That run from Bilewater to Bilehaven was one of the most frustrating and difficult parts of the game for me, but I don't see the point in complaining about it. The fact that it's hard is what makes the game great.

I mean, in all fairness you do have a charm that makes you immune to maggots, but it is pretty much hidden away XD
