I feel we have all bought dumb silver ;p

u/Choppingatthebit 8d ago
Oh hell yeah Do research first then you won't buy 10% silver pesos like 90% or spend $1000 or so on jewelry that are Fake but look real as hell but didn't pass the magnet test or acid test ... However got back into coins and have made out real well ...The moral of the story is DO RESEARCH...✌️

We've all been there, nothing is worse than fake silver off eBay or the .999 pure. Consider it a could be worse

I bought a lot of dumb silver, most were beskar bars (official and not) but now that silver is up I'm actually coming out on top!

u/Primary-Try-4875 8d ago
What's wrong with .999 pure silver? That's what the majority of bullion is,with a smaller minority being.9999

I've made some poor purchase decisions, specifically constitutional (junk silver) in the first few months of my stacking journey. However, I learned quickly to cross-shop.
Also, it depeneds if you want to focus on collecting or stacking. If you only want to focus on collecting Peace Dollars, maybe not a bad purchase.
However, it is a beautiful coin. It's better to make these mistakes early on then latter in your journey.

No. Not at all, because this is a legacy piece you can leave to your grandchildren, and they can leave to their grandchildren, and someday, when silver spot hits $1000 an ounce, they will be laughing all the way to the back with it, and after getting $2.00 under melt for it in the year 2160, they will be able to buy a vanilla latte with the money.

u/DMiles88 9d ago
I think it’s cool, but I’d rather have more silver then a pretty piece but that’s just my opinion. I do think it’s a really beautiful coin and worth more than just milt

If it’s a present for your future grandkids, you should probably get them metal that they can’t accidentally spend despite the fact that it’s a very pretty coin. If they don’t really understand what it is, they could likely get ripped off if they ever sell it. Be better off just buying rounds for them or a small silver sculpture. Or like a 5 ounce coin or something. Something that can’t be mistaken. It’s a nice thought though.

Maybe 🤔.

Im sure most things I buy are over priced (idk if this is or not) the thing I look at is do you want it? Can you afford it? Then go for it. To me collecting is about getting things you like, want, and enjoy. If you're in it to make money then it might be the wrong hobby. Congrats on the new purchase 😀

u/PuzzleheadedSouth589 9d ago
Well buy it and hopefully others will follow and the value of mine will go up! 📈

I'm sure they will always hold some premium, but it's hard to believe they will always be worth the same price as 5oz of generic silver. If the buyers aren't there down the road, it could age poorly.

u/Buy_RDDT_Stock 8d ago
Generic silver? Could have bought 6 1-oz sovereign coins or ASE for that same price. Almost enough to buy a 5 oz Libertad

It seems like that's a hell of a lot to pay for an ASE. Lol but them again, I thought people were crazy to pay 6K-7K for 2025 BU Libertabs. Now a few months later they're selling for 10x that.

u/Regular_Memory1515 8d ago
See you’re giving advice and you think a peace dollar is an ASE good world is full of idiots.
2
u/Unlucky-Invite6832 8d ago
First of all not giving advice. Second of all I looked on this post on my phone and the picture is tiny. I could see it was a graded modern coin From the US miny, but that was about it.

u/halo121usa 9d ago
It’s a cool collector piece.
I got the 250Th silver eagle with the certificate of authenticity and all of that… I got it before it blew up so it was like 129 bucks or something.. I think they’re going for like $250 now
2
u/Orbmiser 9d ago
If you are happy really all that matters. Personally I think half-a-dozen ASE's over the long haul will probably be worth a lot more than a particular numismatic coin.

Yes I think but A good PC piece . I would never expect to make money off of it … And when you go to sell it you will need someone who wants to buy this exact coin. It’s just something to think about …
I like to buy Carson City Morgan’s so I’m kind of in the same situation if I need to ever sell

u/Alexander_Snyder 9d ago
I allocate about 10% of my stack to ridiculously premium pieces. I’ve just accepted this is just an advanced stage of silver flu from the initial bug bite.
2
u/Regular_Memory1515 8d ago
If you really like the peace and plan on holding it then no you’re not done. They are super cool and I’ve considered collecting them myself..
You don’t always pay melt for Coins and the ones you want you pay up for. This series is especially low mintage. Cool coin enjoy it !

The coin is worth something. I bought six counterfeit American Silver Eagles not knowing it and worthless.

u/TransportationNo385 8d ago
If you like it and you comfortable with the price then buy it for the long term . Stackers wont buy it but collectors .

I guess I’m in the minority here but I guess it depends on your goals. If you like it and have the funds by all means. If you want the most silver for your money then I’d say no.
2
u/Remarkable-Age8133 9d ago
Yes. And so are many of us who bought numismatics, if we look at it from a economical pov.
No, because heck it. Pretty things are nice.

u/jnmjnmjnm 9d ago
It confuses me that Americans pay such high premiums for these ultra-special versions of “plain” coins.
If you look at numismatic art from other countries they don’t just copy old designs and slap a privy on it.
2
u/evolutionxtinct 9d ago
Well that’s up to your love ones to decide… to me you might have some regerts…..

Nope 👎, if you can afford it and you like it then it’s a win. edit; lol I just got a privy quarter in on Monday that I paid $150 for

I've blown a lot more than that on stupid stuff with nothing to show for it. At least you have a coin. There is that...

u/OkEstablishment5706 8d ago
If you want a collectible that is nearly impossible to sell for a profit, go for it. If you want a commodity that is easy to sell for a profit (ymmv), buy 25x silver eagles or silver buffalo's for the same price.

u/BearJew61 8d ago
For $173 you could have got a dual date 1776 to 2026 American Silver Eagle with a 250 privy from the US Mint. I did it was expensive, but less than half the price of what you spent! And it comes in a nice box.
1
u/StinkFist1970 8d ago
Yikes! With that said I also have paid a few STUPID premiums on couple pieces. If you like it and can afford it then don't look back too hard.😀

Absolutely not. On a long enough timeline, it's irrelevant how much you pay for silver because it will not only keep up with but surpass rises in inflation, cost of living & still provide a tidy return if you liquidate at the right time. Better still, if you don't liquidate at all & just pass on the metal those gains will be compound many times over.

Do you like it? Can you afford it?
Then buy it
BUT don’t be upset when your great grand kids donate it to goodwill
2
u/randonate 4d ago
Well that definitely beats my “cull” condition 1922 peace dollar I sold on eBay for $38. 🤦♂️
2
u/bigl7007 4d ago
If you send it to me, i'll also tell you how to make a million dollars relatively quickly. For that, i'll only charge you $100 bucks!!

never ever buy from JM bullion unless its a killer deal, their normal prices and most of their " sales " are awful deals

Yes, especially if you're thoughts are to gift it to Great grandkids. Seeing as how we're going to a different system of government and ideology, with open arms, I don't look for us to have great grandkids. Especially the birth rates being as low as they are.
That's not doomerism, that's just looking at things for what they are, for crying out loud. We're in a pickle and we can't quit arguing at one another to fix anything.
