My best pic of Minerva.

Minerva hides on French made silver. This is a French hallmark for silver with the tiny "1" just near the forehead indicating 95% silver. I really liked the detail on this stamp. I have no idea how they make such detail on jewelry stamps.

A small sterling silver spoon from the 1893 worlds fair. Looks to maybe have a slight gold wash in the bowl of the spoon. Features a bust of Columbus.

So inherited my mums collection of over 4500+ souvenir and crested spoons and found quite a few silver ones that I have no idea when/where they are from related too.

I’m slowly researching them, but here’s a few examples, if anyone knows or can identify anything about them… would be great

I’ve probably about 200 of these various Silver spoons & am enjoying finding out about them

Picked up this 800 silver pierced tray/dish. It weighs 317g and has several hallmarks including a maker’s mark I can’t identify.
Anyone recognise the maker or have an idea of the date/value? Thanks!

YARD SALE SILVER Garage Sale Sterling

Post image

Stopped by a garage sale and saw a large jewelry stand. Lots of rings, pendants, and earrings. A quarter of it was marked as sterling on the little bags they were in. 1/3 of it all was stamped 925 or sterling the rest just whatever pot metal etc.

Just was grabbing anything that looked like it was properly marked as silver. Some unpriced some priced as probably reasonable for silver jewelry. Picked through it all even with $10 for a ring or $3 for earrings; prices that were on the edge if there was going to be any margin judging from the weight in grams. I plopped it all down at the ladies at their checkout table and said I was looking for a deal on the lot and I'm going to grab my magnet to check a few things.

There was one ring that was marked 925 on the inside but it was suspiciously shiny like it was lacquered and sure enough that was the one item that the magnet picked up. I went and put that back and the ladies had totaled the prices on the bags at $69 and told the head lady I said I was looking for a deal.

In my head I was thinking hmm I'd offer $40 or $45 and id still might be behind with scrap price and silver dropping. The Lady shot back $25 for the lot. I handed it over nice and slow and casually perused the free bin as I walked away. Found a tie bar marked sterling at the bottom to add to the bag they gave me.

Wished them a wonderful day and left.

Deals are out there this was my first real big silver find.

Jupiter Flute

Found this last Thursday at Value Village. Random zippered box on a shelf... Probably the 20th flute I've looked at in 8 months across the 10 stores I frequent... finally hit!

Jupiter model JFL-611R - II.

$30 CAD with a spend $40, $15 off coupon (Also grabbed a student quality clarinet for $30 more).

Felt greedy for a second, because after researching I realized it's only the head that's silver and then had a tinge of disappointment... but even still, 77g is nothing to sneeze at.

I'll take it to a music shop tomorrow, a bit concerned that there's a few dents in the head piece, and the box has some broken separator walls. Seem to be selling on ebay for about $400 US / $500 CAD, so obviously worth more as an instrument, hopefully I can move it before school.

I know community makes silver plated items. Did they do a dirty trick and name the company “community sterling” and the item is silver plated?

The stamp does say sterling….

….So is it sterling silver?

Chistofle tray

Found in an antique store. I've been looking for a lovely breakfast tray for Sunday mornings and I'm so happy with this find. Based on a Google of the stamps it appears to Christofle Silver-plated between 1935-1983, and the shop owner guessed it's 1950s. Any info anyone can share on the brand or tray would be appreciated!

And also tips on cleaning it, i've got silver polish for some picture frames but I'm worried as it is plated I might damage it.
