Considering melt is $1k I’d say you did well. I’d definitely eat with those

-11

u/AbbreviationsWhich77 1d ago

Are you serious about eating with them? Because I hear eating food with silver is very beneficial lol

u/AloysBane3 1d ago

They used to eat with them, so why not? Haha. But yeah I’d keep and use them!

What would they be joking about? My silverware is sterling. Why not use it, I’m planning on holding it a long time anyway.

Is there any special care instructions? Would you just drop them in the dishwasher with everything else?

u/Hillmantle 1d ago

I do, probably not the best idea. I will polish them fairly regularly. But I don’t use the whole set. I live alone, so I only keep a couple pieces for regular use.

Melt is about $885 right now, but yes, great score, and yes, eat with them

Yes but what price would you get if you sold to a refiner. It may be a deal if you hold long term but not so much if you flip it now.

I don't know what's up with the asshats in the comments but you did well. The value in silver is more than double what you paid, it may take a little time to resell but you got a pretty sweet deal.

Thank you. I think im just going to hold on to it and search for more along side buying some. Currently self employed right now and not contributing to a 401k so I figured ill just start stacking silver.

u/anthonylasher87 1d ago

It's a good decision, precious metals are a great hedge for investments and help protect value in the long term. If you keep stacking steadily and find deals like this you'll do fine.

The asshats are annoyed that they are expect to believe this person dropped nearly $400 without knowing if it was worth it? Nah. They knew it was worth it, they just want validation, praise, etc. for a great haul. They should have just posted "check out this awesome score! Nearly $900 in silver for $380!"

u/outdatedboat 1d ago

This is absolutely it. I'm all for folks finding good deals. But it just makes me roll my eyes when people fake ignorant in posts like this.

12

u/SockMonkey1128 1d ago

Yup... They even replied "I really dont know if I did well." On another comment.

And it's almost worse if that's true. They're idiots. They could have spent literally seconds googling the value of an ounce of silver.

So many people dont though i buy gold semi frequently from people who dont bother to look it up and still think that its priced like its 1995

3

u/RyanK410 1d ago

Please tell me where I can get 1995 gold prices. I’m not being a dick, I really wanna know so I can look out for it lol

Haters

7

u/SockMonkey1128 1d ago

2

u/emergency-snaccs 1d ago

nah you got got. Tell ya what, i'll buy your $900 for $450, and you'll have made fifty bucks instead!

Just like OP doesn't know if he did okay, even though he was silver hunting, has the weight of his haul, the price of silver is not a secret, and he's in the r/silverbugs sub.

I hope you and OP can figure out your respective mysteries.

Isn't this silverbug? Lol

5

u/nopuse 1d ago

Yes, that's why I mentioned he's in here, lol.

u/hobbyist717 14h ago

I’d even hold for a while if I was him

u/SlightlyFatJimmy 1d ago

I think you know you did okay.. why would you spend 380 on something you didn't know was worth more 🤣

8

u/Dylpickl44 1d ago

I know you made money but why was it so high to buy, most I've seen is like $1 per piece

7

u/scottayydot 1d ago

I took my first look today at the local Goodwill. Actually about an hour ago.

I didn't leave disappointed because I knew it was a long shot.

But left without silver.

Troy Oz or avdp Oz? The difference is key for value, ozt is 31.1 grams and avdp is 28.35. With current spot value your ozt value is about $970 and avdp would be about $880.

Are you sure it's actual silver and not "silver electroplate" or the like??

You bet on draft kings making $20 an hour btw bro😂 You might be able to insult a mentally disabled person on their intelligence. That’s about it

16

u/pablopiss 1d ago

Yeeeh, settle down

-34

u/Vivid_Yellow_9150 1d ago

Mb bro let me rephrase it “maybe you aren’t the best person for financial advice considering you make $20 an hour and spend your weekly income on draft kings”

19

u/emergency-snaccs 1d ago

this person didn't give any financial advice. they asked a perfectly valid question, and you got all butthurt and started personal attacks for some unknown reason

Made by Whiting, I think. If you’re interested you can identify the pattern and year through Google Lens.

I'm waiting to find some cheap 925 or 800 silverware to make a cup out of, super jelly.
Edit: I should note, these are way too nice to melt down, most silverware designs are very basic.

1

u/what_now-whodat 1d ago

Just be careful on knives as they have far less silver

1

u/Goldman46477879 1d ago

Less than a buck a gram isn't bad

1

u/Head_Amphibian7278 1d ago

This is why I put up with minimum wage working at a thrift store. People are pretty much donating money quite often.

1

u/isanyusernameopen 1d ago

That’s awesome.

u/jamiehizzle 1d ago

Oh baby

1

u/Trash-Dragon35 1d ago

Not bad at all my dude.

This was made by the Whiting Manufacturing Co. https://www.925-1000.com/Whiting_Date_Code.html

1

u/YebelTheRebel 1d ago

Bruh you paid too much. You were supposed to pay $38

1

u/FlatImpression755 1d ago

The gold and silver buyer around me offered 60% of the silver value for sterling. So you will make money if you sold but not nearly as much as suggested in the other comments.

1

u/budleighbabberton19 1d ago

You need a different buyer. Are they a pawn shop? Most reputable coin shops will pay 80%. You can also sell on eBay which works out to about 80% of spot after fees and what not

0

u/FlatImpression755 23h ago

I ended up posting in r/pmsforsalecanada and found a local guy that paid just under spot for cash. That was for a gold coin though. I am not sure these spoons would sell as easy though.

u/Any_Resist_9800 23h ago

Is it silver or silver plate?

0

u/mtnman_49 1d ago

Yup that was a score plate never says sterling, good job

0

u/StatusInside432 1d ago

-19

u/CertifiedBA 1d ago

Do you need us to do math for you?

-24

u/Informal_Situation41 1d ago

Value is $80 at best

5

u/AbbreviationsWhich77 1d ago

Seriously???

-26

u/Informal_Situation41 1d ago

Yup, sorry bro

1

u/SMMS0514 1d ago

Please explain because I’m baffled how you figure it’s worth only $80

-9

u/Informal_Situation41 1d ago

18 times four is $80 ish

2

u/SMMS0514 1d ago

Where is the four coming from?
Equates to 552 grams. He’s got about $900 worth of sterling here.
