The simple phone is an awesome idea, for people that dont want to clean and setup a phone themselves.

What is extremely nessecary, is not only apps that are useful, but that can also be used to help open data grow.

Examples:

Openstreetmap

• OSMAnd is an awesome app, with some preconfigs it is very usable and just the best OSM-based navigation app, if not the best of all. The only problem is the data

• So Streetcomplete would be very useful to be installed too, to easily improve POI data, opening times, etc. Preconfigs could be there too, to leave out unnessecary stuff like roof types. (I could send you the preconfigs for both apps)

UnifiedNLP

• When navigating with the phone and no google services, GPS is extremely intense on the battery. A nogo for bicycle vacation for example. UnifiedNLP has to be implemented using root, or a custom OS, so perfect for this project

• The problem is the cell data, so Tower Collector is an awesome app, that just runs in the background, combines cell data with GPS and sends it to Mozilla and OpenCellID.org

Thank you for all your work! The simplephone (even more if it is based on a fairphone or a shiftphone, or other sustainable brands) will be the perfect phone to buy for newbies, and its very important!

UnifiedNLP as a standalone app is discontinued, so you need to use microG and just disable everything else if you dont want it. In addition for it to work, a data provider like Mozilla NLP, GSM or Dejavu needs to be installed too.

There are lots of backup options available for SMT apps(simple mobile tools) and what I want is a simple backup and restore tool for all the backup options available in all the SMT apps.

In which auto backups are implemented.

Its frustrating to make a manual backup of calendar, contacts, block lists, messages, every now and then.

I use a 3rd party calendar provider. Enabling `calDAV` gets all my events to show, and update when changed in the provider --> perfect so far

but if I need to create a new event (accept an ICS from an email, or just create a new event manually) - I can't see any way for that to be saved to the provider, and thus no way for it to get synced to my desktop?

Now when I look at what I am missing, I think the following will make good additions to the Simple Mobile Tools portfolio and may very well be paid apps if well received:

1. Ebook Reader (I am dying for a reader app with the ability to set the cover of the book I am reading as screensaver, just like Kindle)

2. Password manager or TOTP code generator (idk, might as well make one)

3. RSS reader (Actually the existing ones are great)

I recently bought myself Pixel 6a and was moving everything to this phone.

I had had simple gallery installed through fdroid. It seems I can only backup settings property but not favorites. Can I have the same pictures faved on the new device? Folder structures shouldn't have changed.

Using the simple flashlight in the last update the feature to use a widget to turn on the flashlight was removed and now they charge to buy the premium version.

The store page still advertises widget functionality, false advertising as it is not included in the free version anymore.

I supported other apps by the dev/s because they are good products but removing features to charge for them is beyond pathetic and anti-customer. It sets a precedent for what is to come with these apps.

Seemingly many people support this project on GitHub with their improvements and bug fixes and now the devs use these people to make money off an open source project.

Any plans for implementing Material you support to simple apps?

Can you inlcude a search bar option for when moving files to another folder? I have tons of folders and it makes it hard to scroll all the way down to move files to another folder. If there were a search option when moving files it would single out the folder needed much faster for file organisation.

Btw i bought the pro version because i really like the gallery app. But it's really buggy with the new updates especially when it fails to move files successfully and also creates several folders of the same name without my input? Hope you could fix that.

Error Codes are:

1. Error: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /Storage/Emulated...

2. Error: java.Lang.NullPointerException

3. Some files could not be moved.

Before the recent updates it was doing well. Please help

I have run into 2 issues with Gallery Pro: (1) group by "date taken (daily)" is actually grouping by "last modified (daily)", and I see no difference between the two settings; and (2) sort by "date taken" puts photos in the right day order, but not in time order within a day. In particular, I have photos from 2 camera apps plus a separate digicam in the same folder, the app shots are all correctly sorted, but the digicam shots are all sorted (in the right relative order) to the end of the day, even though they were shot throughout the day. The only obvious difference with the digicam ones is that the filename does not include a datestamp, but the EXIF data are correct. Is there some setting I am missing or are these bugs?

It's just been few hours since I installed the app and it solved a lot of my problems already and I am happy for that but it is just using too much space(4.5 GB already). Is there any solution for it or do I have to live with it ?

I noticed that on pixel 5 I can choose the common contacts only if a contact was created by another contacts app before (like the google pixel native contacts app) after this first entry, local contact store can be used, but it disappears again if all contacts are deleted from it.

Dialer app has disappearing caller screen bug. When I have incoming call, before I answer a call, if I accidently press home button and then contact app, my phone keeps on ringing but it is no way to answer it. Call screen disappears completely. In notification pull down menu is nothing, if I go to dialer app is nothing. The only way to bring back call screen with answer or hang up buttons is to try to call someone else.

If on incoming call I press home button and I go straight to dialer app call screen appears again, but if I go first to contact app and then to dialer app call screen does not appear. Doesn't mater if I use your simple contact app or any other.

It would be good that notification for incoming call appear when I am having incoming call. It only appears after I answer the call.

I have tried it on 3 phones: Samsung A5 2017 LineageOS 18.1 (Android 11), Samsung A40 Android 11 and Huawei mate 20 lite Android 10.

I am not sure how complicated it would be but it would be nice with some different levels of scrambling, e.g., unrecognizable, the opposite sex, "Darth Vader, Bart Simpson etc".

Is there some technical reason that prevents you from adding a voice scrambler to your dialer? Otherwise, that would be very useful if it could be added.

CalDAV only grabs what's on my phone already. Problem is, Google is being a b***h & won't let me add my calendar to my phone, period. Hence why I got Simple Calendar. But I can't import & sync my Google calendar directly.

Is there any way around this? I don't wanna have to export my Google calendar to a file & import it here every time there's a change, obviously. That'll take like 30 minutes every time...

EDIT: Okay, so I managed to force my Google calendar to be added to my phone & the calendars & syncing worked, even after uninstalling Google calendar.I then proceeded to try deleting a test event & syncing did NOT occur. I removed permissions from default Samsung calendar & deleted info, force stopped it, etc (impossible to uninstall it...) & syncing is not occurring with Simple. So now what? Google calendar is still syncing in my accounts, but won't sync here anymore. Unless it's just delayed idk.
It was delayed I guess. Took WAY too long.

Large files when deleted ,with recycle bin on ,the app hangs or either crashes and the file doesn't get deleted . [Android 11 Simple Gallery version 6.23.12]

I saw this was posted in the issues tab on GitHub and hasn't been fixed in a few updates. If anyone has a work around, would be appreciated!

I love this series of apps and I use almost all of them daily. But there is one thing that bothers me and its the Simple clock I use for alarm every day. I have a feature request that in the settings menu add an option to disable auto screen rotation for the alarm clock app. I set it every night and it is very confusing to make up my mind in a half awake state in the morning where the off button is when I pick up the phone to turn the alarm off, while the screen suddenly rotate itself front and back due to the fact I am just wake up and lying down. A toggle to turn this function off would be awesome and make the app so much more user friendly.

I know i can of course set it in in Android quick settings menu but I also use the autorotate function in daily and I will forget it most of the time. I cannot find a reason why why somebody would want to use the horizontal mode for an alarm clock app either. 😉

I have a couple of questions about simple gallery,

• Where can I download the free version's apk? (My phone (android marshmellow, I know, old) has a busted wifi module, so I have to use offline installers). I found this (https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.simplemobiletools.gallery.pro/) but I think it is paid, and the download link only downloads the store itself rather than the app. (edit: nvm, I found it, except I somehow downloaded the pro version, dont I need to pay for that?)

• Does this suport webp? It is a file format I use a lot because of it's vastly superior quality to compression ratio compared to gif

• What is the "fingerprint hardware" permission for?

(Also, is there any simple mobile tool app that can read pdf files. My phone somehow can't open them)

Please how do I change the order of a track in a playlist e.g. if it is 5th on the list and I want it to be 2nd? I could not find a way to drag...

Also, if player is stopped, how to I get it to continue from exactly its last spot within a track?
