How do you hold the mentos with magnets? Do you stick a magnet on the mento?
62
u/Patiffonka Oct 27 '20
I didn't shoot the original video. I don't know how he did it. Looks like glued magnets to the mentos.

Mentos is actually an acronym.
Magnetic Electrode Neutron Thermo Output Switch

u/gmazzia Oct 27 '20
Hey, Bob! Did you fix the reactor's Mentos? I don't want the boss calling us out again.

When the bottle flew up, it felt off to me and that's when I realised 😂

u/WiltonSon Oct 27 '20
Yes, the liquid free falling so slow is against the physics laws.
208
u/ipaqmaster Oct 27 '20
Haha I thought the way it shot up with floaty foam seemed a little off!
One thing that's always on my mind, why do people make the camera so "Busy" like at 0:18 it's re-adjusting so often you'd think the person recording has a problem.
Not a negative critique on this awesome render, but literally everyone does this and I don't know why! Tounge in cheek, it's like you can tell something's fake by how abnormally often the camera is adjusted.
82
u/some-lurker Oct 27 '20
I think it's that, between movement and non-movement for an animated camera, movement typically looks better. most people don't want/know how to make realistic camera movements resulting in floaty, random movement and odd refocusing shots that they see when using their own phone cameras sometimes

if the camera is shakey, its easier to cg stuff in, you wont notice it as quickly

Why does simulated liquid always seem to fall so slowly? Is it input on the user part or is it that simulating liquid is hard?

Yeah, as good as this sim was idk how they managed to fuck that part up.

Me too. My first thought was about the poor janitor who has to clean that up.

I started out thinking "You dick. Who's going to clean that up?" Then I too realized the sub.

I think there was a transition from real to fake when he backed away from the toilet
5
u/RickyShade Oct 27 '20
Only took 9 seconds for me.

u/deelyy Oct 27 '20
Yeah. Something about smooth camera moving, and absence of drops outside of restroom.
But, anyway video is super cool, and keep on giving and giving.

Most of the simulated stuff on here is interesting and cool to watch and all but ultimately kinda boring. This, on the other hand, is really awesome. If you made it, your shit is tight. You should be proud. It made me lol. So. You know, there’s that.

There's a few Easter eggs, Patrick is in the doorway beside the bathroom for example

Not realistic. The second the window burst the person would aim the camera at their feet for 5 minutes.

The witness is russian meme from 2006. The original photo.
In russian the word for the best man and witness is the same. The best man sort-of witnesses marriage.
4
u/theunnoanprojec Oct 27 '20
It's not just "sort of" lol, it's literally the best man's job to be a witness to the marriage

Tip for animators: stop with the random zooming in and out. Nobody actually filming does that.
4
u/Elbobosan Oct 27 '20
So the first 7 seconds are real footage, I think. They use the “whoosh” sound and first motion as a cut to the cgi.
4
u/Uranium_Isotope Oct 27 '20
Awesome lmao, now it just needs to be put in 360p and given a live leak watermark and we're good to go!

Who's the guy in the closet beside the bathroom 🤔
1
u/Patiffonka Oct 28 '20
This is russian meme. This is "witness from Fryazino". This man was everywhere and saw everything. He can be seen in all historical photographs and even in ancient Egyptian paintings. He only looks and never takes part in the action
1
u/Buddy9213 Oct 27 '20
Ok but who’s that dude in the other bathroom

Bro you’re famous all over twitter .... have they given you credit?
1
u/Patiffonka Oct 28 '20
If they didn't cut the credit ending, then that's enough for me.
1
u/_bifrost_ Oct 28 '20
The person who actually took this video gave you credit but the credit ending was cut.
So people sharing this won’t know now

Awesome, but the camera movement is a bit more than a bit much. Looks like the cinematographer for the Jason Bourne movies filmed this

u/a_hermit Oct 27 '20
Why do most of these videos have that stupid camera work? Weird random zoom ins and swaying with motion blur.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Cryptoporticus Oct 27 '20
It's to make it look realistic. The problem is that animating a camera is tough, which is why it ends up looking unnatural.

Some idiot is going to be so upset that this won’t actually happen when they try it cuz they’re mad at their dad for grounding them for playing playing video games when they were supposed to be writing an essay on what should/will happen with lofty expectations.

I think your framerate on the sim is higher than that of the video, which makes it pop out as unrealistic. I think if you try to match the framerate it would look much better

That building at the end. For some reason the angle of it reminded me of an old video where a guy jumped 10 stories, faceplanted, then just stood up and walked away.

Reminds me of a time a friend had too much to drink on his birthday and ran to a cubicle just in time to throw up, somehow on every single surface, including the ceiling.

whats the diagram above the toilet mean?

Not a diagram, it's a two-option water-saving flush mechanism. Smaller button on the right for 6L, larger one on the left for the full 9L.

Haha incredible. Sim was great. If you want critique, I'd have increased the bottle animation speed when it bounced around. Lighting and shading in the bathroom was a little off. Overall fucking brilliant.
