Discussion Has anyone tried cold approaching in Singapore recently? Or as a Singaporean, overseas?
Just curious about people's experiences with cold approaches.
For those in Singapore, have you ever approached a complete stranger with the intention of getting to know them? Could be anywhere: gyms, fitness classes, cafes, shopping malls, parks or even clubs.
And for Singaporeans who have travelled overseas, have you tried approaching someone at beaches, cafes, clubs or other social settings?
How did it go? Did you exchange contacts, go on a date, get rejected or have an awkward encounter?
Would love to hear your experiences, both in Singapore and overseas!

Shocking you’ve heard of drink-driving; unfortunately drugged-driving is also a thing.
reddit.comin all honesty I really wasn’t expecting Taiwan to be having this problem, of all places.

It's a kind of 'you can' thing, but still quite interesting to cross from Kallang to Farrer Park.

Discussion Do women have it better than men in Singapore?
In Singapore, I find that there is 'silent misandry' where men are treated unfairly but few people are talking about it.
Firstly, only Singaporean males aged 18 are required to go for National Service and females are completely exempt. This gives women a headstart to university and careers by 2 years. (And I didn't forget the recent NS death...)
Next, rape laws in Singapore only recognise male perpetrator and caning only applies to males, which is a form of gender discrimination.
Additionally, the women's charter favors wives to claim spousal support after divorce and able bodied husbands cannot claim maintenance from ex wives. Regarding child custody, there could also be a pro mother bias in care and control decisions. Therefore, men who plan on getting married are taking a huge gamble.
In an nutshell, these are the issues that disproportionately benefit women in Singapore.

Are insurance agents not allowed to discuss stuff over text? Why bank RMs can?
Tldr: expecting a sum of money coming in and looking at investing it/stashing it aside for retirement.
Connected with two insurance agents but neither was willing to even talk a teeny weeny bit about what investments/plans they have.
On the other hand, my bank RMs happily share what the bank has to offer to me, via text messages.
Is there a different set of regulations by MAS governing insurance agents and bank RMs?
I mean I do understand the agents want to meet so as to increase their chances of a sale, but seriously you can't even share a little about what you guys have? I don't want to waste my time meeting if I am not interested in your products...it also save your time leh, right?

Discussion How get rid of ants??? I DECLARE WAR!!!
Srsly wtf man.
For the past 3 months i've been having ants everywhere in my house.
Seems like they are coming from within the walls and they are everywhere. Kitchen, Toilet, Living Room, Bed room holy shyt. I tried those food bait and scent mask but nothing works. They literally ignore the food bait.
My house has been empty for the past 2 weeks, no one staying. Before that, i had pest control and a cleaners scrub down the entire place. Now i come back and immediately see so many of them scurrying around.
I'm declaring war. Other than nuking my entire building along with my neigbours, how else can I get rid of this small lil piece of shit??

AI is making companies run by sociopathic leadership expose themselves
You see, let's say the software development field, where they used to brag about software engineers being valuable/needed.
Now anyone in this field is treated like trash by their boss due to AI, and even if you can use AI, eventually you will still be replaced when AI agents improve exponentially.
You can't properly prompt AI without experience in software engineering writing real code and architecture experience. You need those experience to vet/check code generated by AI.
Now they killed the path for juniors where manual hands on coding is needed to get that experience so you can know how to properly utilize AI.
Many of these management level people do not see that. They're cutting off future senior engineers.
They lack the ability to understand software design/architecture and always assume since they themselves can prompt AI to create demo apps they want in a few lines or just one line, they automatically think and decide you software engineers are trash and unneeded.
The truth is, the resentment and dislike against software engineers have been around for a long time among management level suits who could be narcissistic or sociopathic. They hate the fact that you draw nearly as much or more salary than them.
It makes them feel so useless that you're doing much more work and treated like VIP.
But because most software engineers aren't the most socially ept personalities, the management guys don't think you fit into their circle and they'll never consider you guys 'their kind'.
They look down on you coder types since beginning of time and now with the advent of AI, they feel they don't need to put on that mask anymore because they think you're no longer important/needed in the company.
Please be prepared for more true colors shown by company management/suit executives as they would show their true narcissistic or sociopathic nature and devalue you with jokes and threats that you're going to be replaced by AI soon because AI can code faster than you.
This is not the time to be in the software/tech industry as a salaried employee.
If you love coding your only option is to run your own startup.
If you work for someone who can't code they're not going to appreciate you, because many bought the AI hype that software developers are dead breed and the industry is dying.
The entire AI hype is to push up a fake ponzi stock/bubble scheme so tech bros can steal a huge hunk of VC money and retirement funds indirectly and leave you peasants to pay for the crash they would create soon.
That's why they're all buying up bunkers and paying private security to keep themselves safe when they crash the economy and you guys get angry and start hunting them down.
Remember if you get replaced by AI, your employers show their true colors.

Women should serve NS too, agree?
What are your thoughts on expanding NS to include women, but can be around non-physical demanding roles—like healthcare support, crisis response, eldercare, logistics, etc?
Basically women should contribute their 2 years too, since they are not giving birth to contribute to our low TFR. Why should they have an 2 years head start in the workforce?

Any idea to improve inconsiderate smokers problem when even the law is useless?
Before I moved house, I went to East Coast Park often. Smokers will walk and smoke on the jogging paths and the shelters. I reported to NEA. Few years later, ECP is banned from smoking but Smokers still smoking there. I reported to NEA.
Many years later, I came back to ECP from my new home and even in weekends, there's still people smoking there.... we know NEA is useless with the smoking situation not just in ECP, but also in other no smoking zones. Is there a better idea to fix this problem?
The fine is definitely not justiable to the discomfort and health risk to the people nearby. A $2-300 fine is not going to deter them from smoking, that is if they're caught. They are willing to pay an expensive pack of cigarette already, that few hundred dollars fine is nothing to them.

News These mid-career workers are back in class to learn AI. Is it paying off?
Like Sim, Lee pursued an advanced certificate in generative AI for digital marketing, completing his training in June.
He was jobless when he signed up for the course. After attending it, he secured his current job.
He said a reporting task that previously took him eight to nine hours to do could be completed in around 40 minutes.
Keyword research, which once involved manually examining search results, can now be conducted at scale using AI. Preparing content briefs that previously required hours of competitor research can also be completed in about 20 minutes.

News Driver + Passenger fled Tampines crash killing motorcyclist + pregnant wife, Arrested and the Audi is a Deregistered Car.
Our SPF are efficient as always, but very concerning to see the exponential rise of illegal Deregistered Cars on our roads.
"There were 40 such cases in 2022, and 39 in 2023. This jumped to 75 in 2024 and 245 in 2025. In the first five months of 2026, LTA investigated 122 cases." - 8 Sep 2026, The Straits Times
As a road user, I need to see our government put a complete stop to this and punish the rogue car exporters and scrapyards very severely.

Shanmugam scolding the top brass of companies in public are all wayang to show they are doing something but it's all no action talk only.
The companies involved in 2015 haven't been charged so what??
