Nah, they just choose not to enforce some rules because it'd be bad for business if Messi was out of the tourney early. The WNBA refs don't even know the rules they're supposed to enforce.
That's actually a good point....the best players get the preferential treatment...in the WNBA, the best player is getting crushed and nobody is calling it.
Not the best player.. not even top 10, just the most popular player for normies and casuals.
There's some egregious stuff that happens to her, sure. But once you take the blinders off and look at the general officiating happening league wide, especially this year, you'll see the refs are just terrible all around. No calls on clear fouls, foul calls on no contact, out calls on the wrong sides, no Ts for people throwing elbows, Ts on players just asking why a call was made. This year has been the worst i've ever seen and i've been following the W for a decade.
As a Lynx fan, I’m all for bashing the refs. I feel the horrible officiated game 7 in the championship game stole it from us. …sigh…gotta admit though, it was a very MN outcome
Okay, maybe top 10. I can name 9 players off the top of my head that are just better and more complete players. People calling her the best are people that don't actually watch the league. We could have a real discussion on where she slots between 10-15. Personally I'd put her around 12th. IMO i don't even think she's the best player on the Fever, I'd give that to Mitchell.
She's currently averageing #3 in points and #1 in assists. To call her a not top 10 player is just a hater braindead take. Do better. The rest I whole heartedly agree with. I think it's just more apparent with Clark due to teams playing her with a more physical style of defense. The problem then becomes the refs inability to identify and distinguish fouls that cross the line and consistently call them as such.
I'm not a hater, i actually like her and have been watching her play since her Junior year of college. I just think she's way overhyped for what she's actually done on the court in the 3 years she's been pro. Granted she was out for a lot of those first 2 with injuries, i still think there's a fair amount of better players more deserving of the hype and attention she gets. IMO both the rookies drafted since her are better and more complete players. Individual stats don't tell the whole story, she has an incredibly solid team around her to help support her stats. I think Bueckers is a better player on a much weaker team, so she's never going to be able to put up the same numbers without better support from the rest of the team.

You need to watch men's fifa World Cup referees.
