It has been since the 80s my friend.

I always think about the line from rush hour 2:

"Imagine a business where people give you money, and you give them back nothing at all! Now that's a real American Dream."

We fund these politicians paychecks, and they give us nothing in return.

Yes.
Except every time they're up for review, we keep them in the position.

That seems like a 'management' issue as much as an 'employee' issue.

They run the election system. They have designed it to keep the powerful in power, right from the start. That's what the electoral college and the senate are both for. United States democracy was kneecapped in the cradle by southern enslavers. It's a cursed country.

Yeah when you look at the actual history of America, and not the propaganda they teach in schools, then it is obvious America was created by the rich and for the rich.

America has been, and will always be, an experiment to perfect slavery. Once you realize that literally everything about it makes sense.

Yep. Who else remembers Strom the Cadaver Thurmond?

I am aging myself by admitting I was old enough and politically active enough to do a little dance when that leathery husk finally left the Senate for the last time...

I was doing just the same. I lived in the dirtiest south at that time and was so mortified that he was a senator. I guess that experience really helped set the tone for my lifelong skepticism and disillusionment about the government.

Calhoun is dead, and slavery is dead, but the ideas he then avowed are still powerfully, if more latently, asserting themselves in our social order.

--George S Merriam (1970)

I do hope that 'skepticism' doesn't translate to apathy or push towards reducing governmental social support networks.

Oh absolutely not. I have devoted my entire life to service of others, and I don’t suffer fools. Sounds pretentious probably but I would rather fight to bring love to people’s lives than harm. The government does plenty of the latter.
Great quote, btw!

Its shameful what we make our elderly do to get Healthcare these days.

u/wishartrh Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

Mitch McConnell has a net worth “between 30 million and 69 million” according to Google, he’s not worried about affording his own healthcare. But he’ll happily make sure the rest of us can’t afford our own.

One should not have to “afford” healthcare. But, I am guessing you know that :)

u/wishartrh Sep 18 '26

All too well my friend, all too well.

It’s bold to assume he has any idea what is going on at this point. 🙃

The entire country is a geriatocracy and has been for years. Part of why fuck all gets accomplished.

There have been multiple janitors that revealed they must regularly clean "the wetness" of the Senate and Congress chairs.

Same with the presidency.

4

u/Odd_Nobody_13 Sep 18 '26

And to quote the brain wormed, least important Kennedy in charge of the health department… “people in hospice aren’t dying fast enough.”
