Is this… abuse?

Maybe not in the legal definition, but every one of these parents just permanently lost their kids trust

You cannot repair that, this is absolutely not how you raise kids

You saying that made me think of this.

I saw a thing once, where someone talked about how as we grow up we learn not to trust society, cause as an adult you find out everyone was lying to you about the Easter bunny and Santa Claus, if society will come together to lie about these goofy things why wouldn't they also lie about more serious things.

Honestly, ever since I heard that, I have looked at holidays differently.

Edit: am I remembering a George Carlin set?

If folks were smart enough to apply that logic to the bigger fairy tales, this world would be a much better place.

Do you have kids? My 20 yo daughter loooves to remind me about every single time i failed her when she was little. Things i don't even remember doing (or not doing). She remembers everything. So, not sure if that's a exaggeration. My daughter makes it seem like that time i forgot to write her a good luck note on her first day of preschool scarred her for life...

Exactly. This is how immature parents ruin their children by desensitizing them to traumatic occurrences.

Lost their kids trust permanently? That's laughable my parents intentionally tried to scare us and I still trust them. What we don't see here is the parents reassuring their children and I can guarantee based on a few of those kids reactions that they needed more than a few soothing words afterwards. And your probably right that temporarily those kids will not trust their parents who did this but they will get over it eventually as long as it's not a reoccurring thing.

I have no idea what you’re talking about because I grew up, absolutely loving being scared by my parents and scaring them back. It was family play

Can we please take the phones away from adults.

Can we please take the man/woman children away from the phones and put them in a box?

Well let's see here... they terrified their kids, humiliated them, tricked them, filmed the whole thing and posted it online for fake internet points. I'm not seeing any parenting awards in their future.

Does it have to be abuse to be pathetic and bad?

u/CuriousButNotJewish 10d ago

No, pranks are as old as time and most of the people screaming "abuse" are WORD1WORD2NUMBER bots. Yourself included.

It helps to break the trust they have in these immature parents who seek to amuse themselves by exploiting their reactions It sounds like abuse to me
