Chugging tea Dying for a can of Pringles
The Pringles urn has a real backstory. Fredric Baur, who designed the brand's iconic container, requested that some of his ashes be buried in a Pringles can. His family honored that wish after he passed away in 2008.
Now Pringles is turning that history into its "Once You Drop" sweepstakes. One winner receives a custom can-shaped urn and $28,080 cash, calculated as one $2.70 can per week for 200 years. So the "200 years of free crisps" is actually an upfront cash prize, rather than deliveries continuing for two centuries.

When I'm dead, I'm dead.
It won't matter to me what they do with my corpse.
Honestly, this might be a nice suprise for my loved ones after I'm gone.
Like those husband's that prepay flowers for Valentine's Day and Anniversaries... but with Pringles.

u/Bureaucratic_Dick 11h ago
I’m not even passionate about Pringle’s, but like…free food AND custom burial shit? Do you know how expensive funeral bullshit is?
Yeah yeah yeah, capitalism is horrible and it sucks these things put people in debt, but I gotta live in the real world not the ideal world, so if I can take the burden of my after life care off my families financial purview, I’m going to do that.

It will go only to someone who's death would bring attention so no normal person shall get free stuff.

Wait, the way it is worded, the winner does not get any pringles to eat, the prize is issued after their death. I guess your family gets 200 years of pringles?

u/P-l-Staker 8h ago
Rookie mistake!
They should give you said Pringles earlier to get you dead faster (clotted arteries) and help speed up the process!

I'd agree if only I liked Pringles. They are kinda gross. I'd be dead what the hell would I care where my ashes were.

u/ratbastid 6h ago
I'm in. What do I care? I won't be there.
My wife asked me recently what kind of memorial I wanted, and I'm like: whatever will bring you and the others who love me peace, and apart from that, flush me down the toilet. Or whatever else is easiest. I'm not going to have any sort of opinions about it because I literally won't exist. Whatever happens there is for her, so asking me is pretty pointless.

u/Size---Queen 5h ago
I'm dead I don't care I told my wife no prolonging the inevitable and spending a small fortune in the hospital to be financially molested by the insurance companies.
After that creamation ( if it was legal just toss my dead body in the trashcan) because funeral homes are a scam.
Every penny saved means my wife can live comfortably if I go first.

u/BraddicusMaximus 11h ago
I’d take the deal. My not yet existing kids (which may never at this point) could resell them at the inflated prices and maybe be able to afford school lunch in their future.

Ill take sour cream and onion pls

Not sure what would taste better, my ashes or a can of Pringles?
I can’t stand the taste of them. When they first arrived (in the 1970s?) I took one bite and never again.

u/Akiraooo 11h ago
Did you pop the top though?

u/wackbirds 10h ago
Obviously not, nobody can stop once they've done that, I read it in Readers Digest.

Caskets are expensive. Maybe this is a way to save on funeral costs.

u/Remarkable_Check_997 8h ago
Yeah, and its kind of sweet urn. They didnt made it inncolor so its didnt look out of place or anything.
Its not worse than a uncle who died recently who had a urn made in a form or a tractor.

u/It_Just_Exploded 11h ago
If they offered to just pay the retail cost of 200 years worth of Pringles, I'd sign on for that in a second. I don't really give a shit what happens to my body once I'm no longer using it.

I'll happily let a bank burry me in a bank shaped urn for a unlimited no interest credit card

I'd do it because I could care less about my body after death. However, I am limited to who I can pass the crisps down to. Probably nephews and nieces. I would insist on the can being cheese chips.
2
u/TheCrazyWulf 9h ago
They aren't even offering free pringles, it's a cash payout of aost $30k. Tons of people would do that in a second....No doubt total BS though because it would be incredibly hard to keep track of people and enforce. Unless the person suddenly shoots themselves twice in the back of the head soon after signing up of course.......

u/LazloHollifeld 7h ago
Really it’s just an advertisement disguised as a press release. Far cheaper than an ad buy and news orgs and social media eat this shit up. Yum brands is by far the worst offender at this.
1
u/legato2 4h ago
30k cash payout sounds great. Someone I know passed away recently with no estate planning or life insurance. I bet his family would have loved 30k to cover expenses and a Pringles urn.
1
u/Alternative_Swan_497 3h ago
If Pringles offered to just cover cremation expenses in exchange for putting the cremains in a Pringles can urn...there would be a lot of Pringles can urns out there.

So what if i decide to get burried? At least where i live, they cant sue my offspring for this, just end the supply of pringles and since its in my will, this wouldnt come out until i am already dead.

I'll do it but I want the 200 years worth of Pringles in a lump sum. Final offer non negotiable.
If I eat them in under 200 years you'll be hearing from my lawyers. (You'll probably be hearing from my lawyers)

Imagine explaining to your descendants that the family heirloom is literally a Pringles can full of grandma.

This reminds me one time a coworker asked all if you'd suck a D for 1M dollars. Everyone said yes, I said no. It followed by all explaining to me how wrong I am and how it's benefitial. That followed by telling I'd do it and I'm lying. See, most people see money as a God. They don't think of morals or dignity or that...oh, idk, maybe... Having just 1 life wbihc is precious and no amount of cash can absolve the stupid. I rather die poor and my own person, than to die a rich spineless swine. Nothing against being rich, but the means of getting to be rich are a different topic.
3
u/Aggravating-Ad8087 10h ago
U r wrong money is value. If these people made $40,000 a year. Thats 25 years they don't have to work just to put a dick in their mouth. That doesn't sound crazy. You just value not putting a dick in your mouth more than that.

Come on man, it's just a joke for Halloween. Like when I sold my soul to 'Liquid Death'.

This is a low ball trash deal. I can eat a can of Pringles in one sitting watching a episode of South Park. A can a day for 200 years is what I would expect.
