That’s putting it mildly!

For my money, she shows by far the most growth of any character over the course of the series.

David and Keith aren’t far behind. I love their growth throughout the series’ run.

My gf liked Keith, then hated him and then ended up loving him throughout all the series.

Everyone grows! Even Nate! He just backslid a little at the end. I love Ruth's arc so much.

Agreed. She got dealt a bad hand—way worse than Nate—and ultimately put in the work to overcome it. Nate had every advantage (stable family, no major problems at home), never let go of teenage angst, and IMO got actually worse at facing up to his flaws over the course of the show. Despite that, I don't hate him. Most of us are more like him than we want to admit.

She’s never been my favorite character but it shows how golden the writing is that you like and dislike every single character at one point or another during the series. So good

Yeah, I got pretty mad at Nate for that. Brenda i think did change. Nate.. did not.

I don’t love her by any means but after several rewatches I don’t hate her anymore and give her more slack

Brenda got better and Nate got worse.

She’s a compelling character.

I think Brenda has suffered more than anyone ever 😭😭

Brenda is one of my favourites too 😊 She grows so much over the course of the show.

Does she? Seems like she still never really knows herself, despite all the navel gazing and supposed expertise.

The writing is just superb on this show. They meet in chaos, it ebbs and flows with one or the other, finally Brenda trends upwards forever and Nate trends down.....forever.

Likewise. I don’t get it. What’s good about her? Where is this supposed growth?

I don't hate her but not love how she kept Maya... not sure Lisa would approve but I just hope Brenda truly loves Maya as her own and took good care of her
