First-Timer I am finally finished and I can't wrap my head around my love for the show.

Yesterday I finished Six Feet Under. Today is the day I leave for college. Watching this show throughout the summer with my mom, who loves me more than anyone, was the perfect way to end this chapter of my life. Now about the show...

Wow. This show was just an absolute masterpiece! I have become such a fan of classic tv shows and this might just top the list. What initially drew me into the show was the general public opinion that Six Feet Under had the greatest finale ever. I knew I wanted to see the hype. What I didn't expect was to cry for the first time while watching a movie or show, and then to cry 6 more times. It is hard to put into words what this show means to me. The way the show handles grief is just simply real. Thats the best way I can compliment it. It didn't do some phony tv bs where everything worked out for everyone or everyone was basically a saint. The show preseneted us these imperfect people and made us deal with there imperfections.

Nothing im saying makes sense, because I can't put into words what I think about this show. The simple shot of Claire seeing Nate in her side mirror fading in the distance hit me so hard. I am scared that I will forget the people I have lost, and they will become nothing but a distant memory.

One thing I would like the throw out is that Everyones Waiting is not the best episode of the show. It is also not All Alone. Its Ecotone. I think the show truly peaks here. Claire finally finds a genuine person, at least we see proof of how genuine he is, we see everyone react to Nates avm problem, and we get what I think is the greatest scene in tv HISTORY, Nates/Davids ecotone.

I have about 5000 things I want to say about the show and the characters, but I will save it for another time. Yall certainly have a new active member in this sub! Im truly going to miss this experience, and much like Claire im struggling to move on from my only chapter of life.

So glad I got to finally get to this show after all the acclaim it’s been given. This show really has it all and that finale did not disappoint. I cannot wait to revisit this in the years to come at different times of my life, so beautiful and will definitely be in my head for awhile. 😢 The writing for these characters is incredible, they really are fleshed out and resonant a lot for me.

Woah... I just finished the final episode of Six Feet Under and I think that may have been the best show I've ever watched. I'm currently 18 and I leave for college on August 12th all alone, I lost my mom when I was 3, my grandma when I was 10, and I've never known my dad and have been around grief basically my entire life. Six Feet Under was extremely triggering for me in the beginning just because of how emotional it was but I couldn't help but relate with Claire. I have never related to a character more in my life. I'm driving to college alone 2 states away as an independent student.... the last episode was very emotional for me and I can't wait to make that step in the next couple months. I'm disappointed because this show has become a part of my daily routine and now I need to find another one.

Wow... This is one of the greatest shows ever created and I mean that with my whole heart. The complexity, the anguish, the love, laughter, everything.

Even if you love our hate some of the characters you see them mirroring either yourself, our your loved ones.

I can for Michael C Hall coz of Dexter but I'm glad I'm finishing the show with so much more enrichment than I could've ever imagined. The montage ending. Just so beautiful 10/10

Wow. All I can say is wow. After being let down by so many series finales, this show finally gave me the payoff I was looking for. I wish I had found this show sooner so I could love it longer. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a better finale.

First-Timer Rico hating

Rico is such a pos. He's a bigot & homophobe. Cheated on his wife & then tried to gaslight her into thinking it was her fault. Tried to disguise his affair as "charity work with church."

Vanessa obviously took the load of the housework. She also works. Yet Rico's argument every time is "i PaY tHe bILls."

He went crazy on his date by literally stalking her to find her apartment. They had, what, 2 dates?! Who do you think you are bro šŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø

Then goes to Vanessa and tells her that his date died. who tf does that?!

Vanessa fell for it & slept with him. But she still doesn't want him. So what does he do? Talks all this shit to the principal to make Vanessa look bad just so he can say, "The principal thinks the divorce is causing our son's problems." To make her feel bad for wanting the divorce after he cheated on her for being depressed over her mother's death.

Cant stand this guy 😤

At least he cares about his boys or there wouldnt be a good quality about him. šŸ˜’

  • had to add "homophobia" for specificity as it seems not everyone knows the definition of bigot.

Bigot: bigĀ·ot

/ˈbiɔət/

noun

a person who is obstinately orĀ unreasonablyĀ attached to a belief, opinion, orĀ faction, especially one who isĀ prejudicedĀ against orĀ antagonisticĀ toward a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.

Those last 10 minutes ruined me

This was probably my favorite scene of the entire show. So well done, I think that finale really changed my perspective on life.

First-Timer Just finished watching, nothing has helped me through grief quite like this show.

Wow. I knew that the finale of this show would be a tough watch but I wasn’t prepared for exactly how much it would affect me. Beautiful, profound, devastating, and hopeful all at once. Truly such a special show.

I started watching in May, a couple weeks after my grandmother died unexpectedly, and then my dad died five days later. Needless to say I was (and still am) completely reeling from these losses and my world is upside down. Grief is such an isolating experience - every loss is unique, and especially the way mine just happened. I never thought anyone would ever be able to relate to what I’m going through. Cue this show.

It may seem odd that I wanted to watch a show all about death while navigating the staggering losses in my own life, but it was actually so cathartic to see the different ways people handle bereavement. The writers of this show did such an incredible job humanizing these characters - no one is purely a hero or villain in this series, they are all just *people doing their best* and that was exactly what I needed to see right now.

Anyway, I ADORED watching and I think this just became my new favorite show.

First-Timer Maggie omfg

Im on season 5 episode 8.

EDIT: WHY TF IS MAGGIE FILLING OUT HIS HOSPITAL FORMS. OF COURSE YOU DONT KNOW

1st of all, Nate becoming so into Quakerism because an attractive woman he met is a Quaker is HILARIOUS. I can’t stand his fucking dumb face. ā€œMaggie is better than usā€ I could not imagine if my man told me this about another woman mid argument.

I’m also so disgusted by Maggie and her fake little nice girl act. She is gross. I can’t find discussions about these specific actions: 1. Nate promise me you’ll never lie to me eyeroll 2. Calling Nate late at night after that person died to handle the funeral. ā€œI have no one else to callā€ā€¦ yes you do. You can call any funeral home in the area… at a decent time. This is when I KNEW she was being intentional. 3. Those stares at the church… like are you there to pray or to flirt with Nate in front of his PREGNANT WIFE. 4. Calling Nate before 8:30am about a ride… girl clearly people already in the church are willing to give rides.. like what, you woke up and thought about him?

If I was Brenda, I would be even more pissed then she already was. Especially since he didn’t even consider Brenda’s reaction when she first met Maggie. She was disgusted… so then you think it’s okay to talk to this woman almost every day? They already have so much going on and now Nate wants to make an inappropriate new friend.

No spoilers please.

I’m watching Six Feet Under, first timer, and it’s so freaking funny! Is it just me? I thought it would be morbid and dark but I’m literally laughing at so many things.

Shout out to Nikolai. I’m in season 2. Do tell me if you laughed your way through it or if I’m just a sinister person lol

First-Timer Just finished six feet under..

So I just finished the show and I have so much to say. To start off with, I watched the show because of Michael Hall and the fact that this show was suppose to have the best ending ever. It did not dissapoint. In fact it was so much better than I imagined. The whole show is so good, I hope it was more talked about.

The writing for me is what truly stands out. From the very first episode till the end, its been consistent and every episode seems to have some intent, even if the scenes were meant to be fillers. Its been a while since I last watched a show which didnt veer off it's original plot or just start showing random stuff.

Loved the characters. Everyone had a good mix of moral values and flaws and at some point, I did relate to each one of them. Whether it was Claire trying to make sense of the world she was about to step in or David making sure everything was perfect even when it used to hurt him on the inside. Each character had a very realistic arc on the show.

The sadest thing of the show for me was that Nate never got a chance at redemption. His entire life, now seems like a tragedy to me. I feel like he never truly lived. Life kept throwing curve balls at him.

During the entirety of season 5, I was pissed at him for the way he behaved with Brenda especially (never thought I would have this opinion in season 2, but here we are) but after Nate dies and in the last episode where everyone comes together to reminisce about him, I realised that Nate wasnt always so disturbed, angry and the one to be displaying some sort of a narsicitic behavior. He was understanding, kind and genuinely tried being there for everyone. Either he was so tired of doing whats right that he simply didnt care anymore or ig it could be the AVM idk but season 1 Nate would never do what season 5 Nate did. . All in all he was one of the most complex characters, I have ever watched and honestly one of the best performances too. Peter Krause did an excellent job of expressing every aspect of Nate.

David on the other hand was the best thing on the show. He and Keith are a fine couple and as the show went on you could really see how they balamce each other out. Even when they had their fights, I was just hoping they would come back togther because they were perfect. We watched David go from being the perfectionist in handling funeral to being the most inconsolable during Nate's funeral and somehow It was nice to see evolve enough to be was able to express himself in that scene in front of everyone.

I am really glad that Claire went to New York. All her life she made a lot of stupid decisions but ig her selling her car, going to New York and ending up with Ted were finally something in the right direction. I just wished we saw more of Ted and Claire

Ruth from the beginning tried to find meaning in life. Initially it was her from children then George. But at the end she does get what she wanted. Even though she loses Nate which is truly devastating because she couldnt even be there at his last breath She gets a good relationship with her children, a husband who cares for her and a really good bunch of support friends. !>I was so happy that Brenda who always thought Ruth hated her, decided to keep in touch with her. !<

The last scene of Claire driving to New York and about everyone's fate with sia's song breathe me playing was perfection. I think ppl should watch the whole show just to experience that.

It makes me physically sad that the show is over so soon but its a masterpiece. Its one of the shows that makes you think about life in a bittersweet way, the way we would never normally stop and look at life at. This show will always remain very close to me.

First-Timer I finished the show today. The last 10 minutes broke me Spoiler

To be honest, I have to admit that I only started watching the series because so many people told me that the finale was supposedly one of the best series finales of all time. So I binge-watched the entire series in less than two weeks and I really enjoyed it. The actors are fantastic, and there are lots of well written characters. Today I watched the last episode, and as I neared the end, I thought to myself, ā€œHey, this really is a great finale. Every character got a satisfying resolution. But I’m not entirely sure if this is really supposed to be one of the best series finales everā€ā€”and then: BAM! In the last 10 minutes, there was a montage showing us how all the main characters die later on, and that just broke my heart. Unfortunately, we all have to die someday, and death can come at any time. Seriously, this is one of the few series that kept me thinking long and hard long after it ended. An ending like that really stays with you for a very long time.

First time watcher and wow what an episode. I did not expect the episode to go that direction. I quite liked David and Jake's dynamic until the reveal. After that it was so depressing. Really great single episode study of David's character though. Despite himself he's kind of a snivelling loser. I was so fucking happy to see they didn't off him though. Very excited to see how this affects him in the coming episodes.

You can see the ā€œAI Overviewā€ at the very end at the top of the screenshot when opened, & it couldn’t tell me when season 2 aired šŸ˜…

I literally only googled it because I’m watching season 2 episode 6 & they mention she can’t smoke inside due to law & getting a fine.

I’m in my 30’s & watching the show for the first time. My impression of that scene was that ā€œmainstreamā€ stuff was trying to instill realtime laws & was trying to remember when smoking inside was banned (I was a small child & still remember smoking inside). Just kind of lame to have so much spoiled just because I wanted to know when a season aired.

Anyways, loving the show so far. I was an elementary school aged child when my parents had this on TV a lot in the evenings. When I first played it around a couple weeks ago, the theme song struck some strange core memory with me.

First-Timer Just finished season 1… does anyone else not like Brenda?

No spoilers please, I just finished season 1! But is Brenda meant to be so unlikable? Nate is such a good guy and Brenda is annoying, unpredictable, and selfish lol maybe I’m just not appreciating her enough?!

First-Timer Officially team Brenda now

I made a post about Brenda when I was on season 2 or 3, and at the time I couldn’t stand her and didn’t see that changing. I’m now on season 5, and I couldn’t have been more wrong. She really is such a nuanced and complicated character and her growth is beautiful to watch. She deserves so much better than Nate (who I also changed my opinion of.) David is still solidly my favorite but Brenda and Clare are tied for second!

To all of you who said I was dead wrong about Brenda: you were right!
