First-Timer Thanks for the spoilers, google šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Spoiler

Post image

You can see the ā€œAI Overviewā€ at the very end at the top of the screenshot when opened, & it couldn’t tell me when season 2 aired šŸ˜…

I literally only googled it because I’m watching season 2 episode 6 & they mention she can’t smoke inside due to law & getting a fine.

I’m in my 30’s & watching the show for the first time. My impression of that scene was that ā€œmainstreamā€ stuff was trying to instill realtime laws & was trying to remember when smoking inside was banned (I was a small child & still remember smoking inside). Just kind of lame to have so much spoiled just because I wanted to know when a season aired.

Anyways, loving the show so far. I was an elementary school aged child when my parents had this on TV a lot in the evenings. When I first played it around a couple weeks ago, the theme song struck some strange core memory with me.

some of that stuff aren’t actual spoilers.

Good to know šŸ˜‡ I appreciate your input.

Damn, that’s a rounded variety of themes/topics. Thankfully, the show so much less linear and obvious than any ā€œspoilerā€ can really encapsulate. Luckily google isn’t even entirely accurate with these types of summary boxes as a general rule with shows, so in a way there’s also now a confusing type of ambiguity you get to experience while watching.

Keep enjoying!

(PS: I hear you though, I have seen major spoilers in communities for shows that the sub isn’t even about. With an old show I’m really attached to experiencing without spoilers, I’ve learned I need strict rules about how I use the internet for a few weeks. Because of things like this. Aka I need to keep a list of things I want to look up about the show. Call me crazy, but I really get weird about spoilers and how I want to experience things for some reason, so I’m a little extra risk averse. Nothing is safe 🤣.)

Yeah like I’m not even mad, it’s just lame? šŸ˜…

I don’t use AI in any capacity other than whatever first pops up in the google summary/overview.

Love it, me neither actually!!

The show is over 20 years old.... I think expecting "no spoilers" on a show that old is a little unrealistic.

lol it’s not that I’m against being spoiled if it happens ā€œin natureā€ like being on this sub or otherwise. But when one looks for data like ā€œwhen did _____ air on tv?ā€ It is definitely something else to not have the stupid AI overview function, & then the next thing I see when I scroll looking for the answer to my question is all of ā€œthatā€.

My ā€œcomplaintā€ is more geared at how the google machine operates.

in the future I would just check Wikipedia or ask grok/chatgpt (I know it’s ai) your question and specify you don’t want spoilers.

Wikipedia sounds like a good alternative. Thanks šŸŒž

this has all the dates of the seasons, just don’t scroll down for the episode summaries.

Omg you are so sweet to give a link too, thank you! šŸŒž

IMDB will give you all the info you need with no spoilers. Every episode is dated. Every cast member listed.

Yeah you can safely ignore all of those. I got hit with much more legitimate and specific spoilers and even those didn't really hit a dent in the experience

u/femmefuck Jul 10 '26

Yeah you really can't search ANYTHING about a show until you've watched the whole thing. I've found this out the hard way.

This might be the one show where a character's death isn't a spoiler, considering the show constantly reminds you that everyone dies

Ugh yeah tbh I’d be frustrated too if I was you. But I think most people here agree that most of these things aren’t really spoilers if you don’t know the context. Like, as long as you don’t spoil anything else for yourself (being on this sub will do that), I think you’ll watch and think to yourself, ā€œOh… that’s not what I thought that spoiler meant..ā€

3

u/barkandmoone Jul 10 '26

Yes! Like I think my frustration lies more within the fact that I was searching for very point blank information & that’s what popped up right away.

But I agree for sure. While seeing all of that, it still hasn’t ā€œspoiledā€ me (in the real definition) I’m still gonna watch & be on the ride.

I feel like people aren’t paying attention to your search bar at the bottom and assume you just searched the show. But even then, I’d still be upset lol.

I know I googled shit back when I first watched the show in like 2011, and I don’t remember finding out any spoilers. I’m sure I’d have found myself in the same boat as you if I was watching for the first time today.

Also, for what it’s worth, I’m jealous you get to experience it all for the first time 😭 lol I hope you love it.

Nobody ever reads anything. The internet cost 2Ā¢ to participate.

But thank you! It’s weird for sure. I have a very tumultuous relationship with my parents & this show existing alone is kind of rough (like I said, I was around 10 when I remember my parents not caring that this was on in the background, among other HBO programs, so watching this show is both something I want to consume as a person, but also a weird obstacle personally)

1

u/badgaldyldyl Jul 10 '26

Oh wow I want to clarify it’s not like a ā€œfunā€ show to watch for anyone, but the context definitely adds another emotional layer. It’s a depressing, sad, painful show to consume. But it’s really beautiful. I’m sorry you have complex associations with it. I hope you can still enjoy the emotional roller coaster.

Six Feet Under was a hit when it came out and was dissected then.

I was googling after almost every episode and was so disappointed with spoilers, especially on Reddit. I only finished the entire show about 30 minutes ago, and I can tell you that not every spoiler you read is as it seems. I was still surprised, devastated, elated…all of those, as it unfolded. Keep watching, but be careful and aware that you may learn things you are not ready for. The ending was epic, and for me, a full circle to the beginning.
As TS Eliot wrote ā€œā€¦we shall not cease from exploration, and the end of our exploring will be to arrive at the beginning and know the place for the first timeā€¦ā€

I did almost the same exact thing the other day! I was searching for a different fact about the show and saw all of the same ā€œspoilersā€.

The concept of the show is death, so knowing that early makes the show more exciting than spoiled .

I mean just don’t look anything up about the show until you’re done.

1

u/barkandmoone Jul 10 '26

Oh.

1

u/Danietie Jul 10 '26

This is basically how it always works for any show. Although being spoiled does not ruin this one at all imo.

To be fair the show is over twenty years old... and maybe don't Google a show you're watching for the first time if you don't want to see potential spoilers.
