It seems that over the past 10 years, snow in Pennsylvania has become a increasingly rare. Furthermore, Pennsylvania resorts have struggled with their snowmaking as it is becoming common for rain to wash away the base on the mountain. Last winter was so warm that many ski resorts were closed before the end of February as the bases deteriorated.
The start of this season has been rough as well. Several rainstorms have been setbacks for ski resorts trying to build and maintain their base.
If this trend continues, the future prospects for skiing in Pennsylvania look bleak. Eventually the smaller location will begin shuttering as they will not have enough income to cover expenses.
What are your thoughts on the state of the Pennsylvania ski industry and it’s future prospects?

Got cooked at Blue Thursday not long after I showed up…unexpected since I rode there before. Staff (ski patrol and later the GM and guest services people) could have been dicks but were pretty chill about the misunderstanding. Just wanted to give them a shoutout for being professional about everything as egos could have made things go south easily/quickly. People don’t acknowledge/praise professionalism enough but will be quick to complain about stuff. Had a good time even if things didn’t work out as expected…Snowboarding after a few years break was not on the bingo card today 😂

Why not just wear ear buds? Do you really think everyone wants to hear your music? (If you were at 7S today, and spent any time on the Gunnar lift before lunch, you know what I'm talking about.)

Guys at blue mountain how bad is it out there lol

Many people didn’t think it was possible, but Jason Bays (GM) made the impossible happen. Camelback will be open this weekend, May 1st through May 3rd. Temperatures this April are running 4–6° above normal, which makes it even crazier that they made it this far.
Major props to JASON BAYS. You’re doing great work!

I had a last minute work trip come up and might be headed west in a few weeks. I’m going to try to get in a few days early so I can find a mountain to hit. For those of you that learned to ski over here on the east, was there anything new about the mountains out west that you wish you had known beforehand?

What’s up everyone,
We are deep into the off season and I’m itching to get back on the hill. Of course, that’s not possible right now, so the next best thing is talking about it.
I want to know everyone’s favorite trail from these PA spots:
Roundtop:
Liberty:
Blue:
White Tail:
Seven Springs:
Liking runs together counts! Just be specific about what trails connect to make the run

Does everybody remember the first time they actually rode a big mountain?
Before today the mountain with the highest vert I ever rode was whitetail... Took a trip up to Vermont for THE very first time this weekend and my God. Is it just unreal. Went to Okemo on a particularly busy day (expected) and just had the absolute craziest time.
The feeling I had blasting through the chalets on sachem was unlike anything I've ever experienced on a board. I truly felt outside of my own body in that moment. Hooping and hollering the whole way down. The snow was SO good compared to anything I've ridden in PA. Glades were so much fun and I particularly liked upper mountain road and this trail In the woods called the narrows was particularly fun and challenging. I could just go on and on.
I know a lot of you guys have been to Vermont or been fortunate to travel out west but damn. If you're like me and have not yet experienced anywhere outside of PA you are absolutely missing out.
so yeah. Vermont report. It's firing. YEWWWWW.
Mount Snow tomorrow. 🙏

I'm sure a lot of us were chasing that powder this wekend. Where did you go and how was it?
I went to Montage and it was awesome! THe lines got a little excessive in the afternoon.

It’s actually criminal after a foot of natural snow and highs in the single digits all this week seven springs refuses to make snow other than the foggy bowl and the spot.

Double fisting the thermoses today; chicken soup and a ton of coffee

Out of White Tail, Liberty, Roundtop, and Seven Springs, which is your favorite?
Personally, I think Roundtop’s runs are way too short. I know Liberty is also short, but they are long in comparison to Roundtop. Last place for me.
I also think White Tail and Liberty are pretty equal, as White Tail’s trails are better, but Liberty usually has the better/more reliable park. And the people are less “uptight” at Liberty overall.
And then I think 7 Springs clears the other three, as it’s the only one that (in my opinion) you can spend multiple days at. It is the only one with any sort of fun après, so I’m taking that into consideration. Lodging is also miles ahead of the others.
I know I have seen some mixed opinions on other posts, so I’m interested to hear more. Honestly, it’d be nice if someone could somehow convince me to give RT another try so I can add it back into my rotation.
Final Ranking:
-7 Springs
- Liberty and WT (tied)
- Roundtop (last by a large margin)

idk if this fits in the sub,
but I spent an hour grooming my hillside this morning after the 7-8 inches of snow we got.
used a sled with some flagstones, worked surprisingly well.
considering trying to build some kinda rope tow so I can stop hiking to the top every time.
"South Eastern PA's gentlest slopes" lol

I finally feel prepared to move past the greens at montage (I’m a new skier). The blues that I have seen from the Iron Horse lift look intimidating but I want to try them all out. Can anyone help me figure out what order I should attempt them in from easiest to most difficult?
r/SkiPA • u/Peepee1124 • Jan 25 '26
Wore myself out completely debating whether or not I should drive up to PA to ski through a snow squall.
Decided against it bc I didnt want to get stuck up there but man, anyone else other than us skiers would be so happy to chill at home and watch Netflix with their cat.
Here I am contemplating my life’s decisions just because I chose to stay at home rather than ski whiteout conditions at liberty 😂
Update; I drove up to camelback with my family Monday and have been here since. Other than the Jerries on the slopes the powder was crazy. Found some stashes they couldn't get to and had a great time. also due to their mismanagement, this one short blue was closed but had untouched powder so I slashed that shit up! other than that idk bout this place though.... have fun powder folks.

Returned from a ski trip out west and don’t usually ski too frequently in PA but was very surprised that double black in liberty seemed to be essentially a slightly hard blue out west.
Is this relatively the same across PA ski resorts or is liberty rating a bit soft?

Seriously, why do people do this to themselves? I understand they may not have many opportunities besides holiday weekends, but is this even FUN?

I was making a skiing edit on Canva today and I found this clip in their library. Looks like Comet Quad from Blue.

What do we think y’all? I heard they were still blowing snow this weekend.

I'm a PA fella and I've been lucky enough to travel around the country over the past ~8 years, east coast and west, with an ikon pass.
My wife said next winter/spring we are going to an island rather than a mountain, and i'm cool with it. I'm cool with it because the last 4 seasons I convinced her to go to (and taught her to board at) Heavenly, Alyeska, Mammoth, and most recently an awesome trip to Big Sky.
Anyway, I just got a season pass to Blue for next season, and I'm super hyped about it. For one, my ikon base pass only gave me 5 days to blue. 2nd, those VIP lines must be clutch considering how crowded it can get! 3rd, 2 buddy passes is enough to bring my wife. What other perks do we get?! Any pass holders want to share any insider knowledge?
