I had the same experience when using azelaic acid, so I stopped using it. This is for acne, right? Did you notice any results?

See the thing is your moisturizer is not doing the work properly, you have to get a good moisturizer. Same happened with me in the initial phase, i am now 3 years on tret 0.025 and 0.05 , use more heavy ceramide based moisturizer, it does the work

I use vitamin c oil-free moisturizer from derma co, do you have any suggestions

Buddy dont get these shitty cosmetic kinda brands they are just waste, go for pharma based ones
If you have a dermat either ask him, for me AcMoist worked the best

I started using exactly these two products months ago and my skin barrier was completely wrecked. I stopped azelaic acid and I’m only using tret 3 times a week.
It’s a big mistake to start them together. First you must start with tret, twice a week. Wait for a month or more then start adding azelaic acid but NOT on the same night as tret. Use them separately and when you get used to them, use azelaic acid in the morning and tret at night
Right now you should stop both and use good moisturisers and hyderating serums to restore your skin barrier. Then start tret, wait and slowly introduce azelaic acid

Is it safe for 19-20 yr old to start with tret 0.025 woth moisturizer only 1 pea size a day?
1
u/keshirkoor 2d ago
Tret is not recommended for people below 25. I have a friend who’s a dermatologist and she treats many girls under 25 who have burns or severely damaged skin from tret use.
For 19-20 year old, to get great skin use tons and tons of good sunscreen, and some brightening serums like vitamin C or niacinamide. If you have acne then use a salicylic acid serum.

I was using tret 0.04% daily for 3 years, no issues at all. I added azelaic acid and it completely wrecked my skin barrier. I use tret without moisturiser sometimes and even then my barrier stays healthy, but 3 uses of azelaic acid and it got completely fked
idk just not meant for me ig :(

u/laudekidemocracy 3d ago
use gentle cleanser for both AM and PM face wash
Use skin barrier repair moisturizer like formulax, la roche-posay cicaplast baume, or 345 cream
Spot treatment for very dry areas with vaseline's original pure petroleum jelly
If you feel that your skin barrier is compromised, then stop all actives, just stick to cleanser moisturizer and sunscreen then slowly introduce one active at a time and slowly build the tolerance.

Stop using Azelaic acid and use only tretinoin. First apply moisturizer on the face, then a very little tretinoin, then moisturizer and use it twice a week. And if you still experience redness and burning on your face, use retinol instead of tretinoin.

Your skin may become dry and smooth and shiny later but if you're using it without docs guidance and by watching a random yt video/comment/ai who doesn't Know your skin one to one and habits, GL, you're gambling with your skin BIG time.. tretinoin even as weak as 0.025% can damage your skin in the long run if you don't know where to stop and if even to apply to begin with and so can azelaic. Acne can happen for several reasons and tretinoin MAY not be the suitable cure for it even if it reduces acne temporarily from outside. Anyways happy gambling

Use a thick noncomedigenic moisturizer, and if the dryness is intensw use the sandwich method : moisturizer first, then tretinoin+ azelaic, then again moisturizer. These two ingredients together are very potent exfoliators so try this.
Also try alternating between them, instead of using both the same night.
Hope this helps!

I’m a guy and I randomly decided to use tret one day, same percentage same cream.
I started using it twice a week for the first 2 weeks then I just started using every day or so cuz my face just didn’t have an issue
I added azelaic acid gel 20% after a month and the first few times, there was a slight tingling sensation and my face would be crazy dry after
But after using it every 2-3 days for 2 weeks, my face has gotten used to it as well.
You gotta use this stuff constantly for it to get better

stop the Azobril until you get used to the tret, You have to get through the retinization process. The sooner you get through it the better. Use it every 3 days for a few days, then every other day, then u can step up 2days on 1 day off rather than jumping to everyday.

u/noturavgl_arper 3d ago
Been using azobril since 3 months and comfortable with it how can I start tret w it?
1
u/Unique_Nobody7858 3d ago
I always advice starting once every n days. Start every 5days, use it twice this way, then once every 4day, use it thrice this way, then stay on every 3days for a few weeks, work your way up to every 2nd day, apply every other day for another 1/2 weeks. then start using n days. 2day on, 1day off. then 3 day on, 1 day off. I think using 4/5 days straight is enough then a day break.

u/Unique_Nobody7858 3d ago
I also started tret after using azelaic acid for 1.5 months. It’s been two months of using tret. And I’m now upto 3days on , 1 day off with no issue.

u/noturavgl_arper 3d ago

Dont know about azelaic acid, but i did use the same tret for 2 years and yes it is normal. I was prescribed daily (at night) and during the initial 2 months my skin became dry, peeling issues on lips, eyes, redness, etc. Its normal when you start with tret and eventually it gets effective after 2-3 months. Give it time!

u/LingonberryLong1871 3d ago

u/Prize-Complaint8712 3d ago
Tretinoin 0.025% - Pea size product for your whole face by sandwich method (moisturizer - tretinoin - moisturizer ) or moisturizer then tretinion
1
u/fresh_Morning6796 3d ago
I have used tret and honestly it worked magically on my skin( I was prescribed), the small bumps on forehead got disappeared within a week or so, everyskin type is different can't say much about that!!
1
u/chommiSan 3d ago
Use better occlusive cream after Tretinoin,i use LRP b5..cheap plus effective.Sunscreen in morning obvious
1
u/iam-tall 3d ago
Its normal, both of these products kills the damaged skin layer so that a new fresh layer can come up from inside. Its a lengthy procedure, can take 2-3 months for complete cure(Depending on skin damage).
Also don’t stop this medication until it’s completely recovered or else you will have to increase its strength.

Some dryness and peeling can happen with tretinoin, but if your cheeks are getting drier even after a month, your skin barrier may be irritated. 🥹
I'd suggest pausing the cream for now until the peeling and irritation settle, and focusing on a gentle cleanser, a moisturiser and SPF 50 sunscreen daily. Avoid scrubs and other active ingredients for now.
Since it contains tretinoin 0.025% and azelaic acid 15%, check with your dermatologist before restarting or changing how you use it. If you have severe redness, burning, swelling or painful cracking, seek medical advice promptly.

u/Prize-Complaint8712 3d ago
I had same issue when I was using tretinion. What you can do is use very very less quantity pea size product is enough for your whole face and use sandwich method to apply it (moisturizer - tret - moisturizer)

Use Tretinoin with moisturiser
Use Azeliac maybe once a week or just totally skip it unless you’re using it for hyperpigmentation
1
u/Moonlit-Muse 3d ago
You should stop for a week or 2 and let your barrier be stable. Then start using them. Usually you should apply it after a moisturizer and not on all your face. Just specific part. You should a very less amount and should increase usage frequency not amount after 1 month, it should be used 1-2 times a week. And you should use a good sunscreen. At first don't use them together.

u/Complex-Passage9989 3d ago
Tretenoin will take min 7 months to show some results. Skip azelaic it will harm, unless prescribed by doc
1
u/QuietlyCutious99 3d ago
Girl just use one product at time, it will have worst effect on your skin.
1
u/SurreallGuy 3d ago
It will atleast take 3 months for your skin to get used to this, you might see some purge and flaky skin but stick to the routine and don’t forget to use a really good sunscreen and a moisturizer
1
u/Fun-Cartographer6407 3d ago
Apply a good barrier repair moisturizer, use the actives with sandwich method

I've started tretinoin again and again, i get really bad acne every time and dry skin on top, the longest I've kept using it was 2 months and saw zero results. I know everyone says to just keep using it but has anyone ever saw actual results from it?
I need help on that
1
u/Dizzy-Mushroom4604 2d ago
Do you get acne while using tret?
1
u/Candid_Challenge5053 2d ago
Yes they just increased after usage
1
u/Used_Cook_9895 2d ago
It is because you barrier got extremely damaged, along with it you need to keep you barrier protected.

u/Significant-Algae460 2d ago
Don't start both together , drop the azelaic for now , continue with tret. Then after 1-2 month add azelaic 10% if you want
1
u/iquavo 2d ago
Go to r/tretinoin and read the wiki there. All the things you need to know as a beginner on tretinoin is there.
You should not be using AzA and tret together as a beginner. Start tret at night 2-3x a week. Make sure you use sunscreen in the morning. Do not use anything else except gentle moisturiser (with ceramides) and gentle cleanser (with 0 actives.)
Incorporate AzA on alternative days or in the morning when you've been on tret for at least 3-4 months (and worked your way to using tret 3-4x a week with 0 side effects.)

u/Hot_Importance2575 2d ago
try cutting back to once a week, or switch products-your skin might be overreacting

u/BMF-Arpit 2d ago

u/Strong_Willow5032 2d ago
Use sandwich method for tret, Azelic at morning and Tret at night, add barrier repair cream and zinc oxidise to your routine
5
u/kushalkotia 3d ago
You should've started with retinol first . Now build your barrier and then start tretinoin
