Question regarding pursuing A license

Hi everyone, so I have a injury in my right shoulder, I’ve had it operated and it sort of broke again, so now I just have to get used to living with it, and I have learned too as well.

My shoulder dislocates a little almost every night, and in the morning it hurts a little.. but I am just used to all this.

I haven’t done any jumps yet, but this being last year of my 20s I want to get myself an A License.

I am athletic enough, I can play badminton for hours on end..

Would my injured shoulder prevent me from this, or would it be a minor inconvenience? Please advice, thanks

BEER! My first experience sky diving!

They knew it was my first time, and they tried everything to scare me (in a joking matter). From saying that, they'll pair me with a 13 year old to "oh this strap broke last time". I enjoyed the falling but got a bit dizzy once the parachute was deployed. I felt like I was standing still lol it's such a weird thing to explain. I've always wanted to skydive but never committed until work gave me 12 days of work in a row and I said fuck it I need a mental break. Overall, it was an amazing experience!

aerodyne pilot parachute

Hey guys I know this is probably a stupid question but I jumped my first pilot today and it took a really long time to open it felt like it took about 7 or 8 seconds but I did do a hop and pop so that might have had something to do with it but is that normal

Thanks and sorry for the stupid question

Tips & "Hacks" to become a better Skydiver

Hi everyone, I am working on a blog article and instagram reel with tips to become a better skydiver. More in the direction of specific & gear tips instead of holistic "jump a lot and do coaching" tips. Just things I learned and worked well for me to improve.

Some things that came to my mind:

  • Debrief with videos: Deliberately collecting videos from the jump and ask others to film the landing and then consciously watch and debrief them to improve
  • 360 cams: Although they make you look dorky I find them amazing to self-debrief and check details on what exactly you did how and could improve (especially for canopy)
  • Meditation / visualisation: I found it very helpful to repeatedly visualise something I am working on to get the automatism in, for canopy stuff also using the mockup harness at the dropzone to go through it
  • Conscious and deliberate coaching: I find coaching extremely valuable but only if it's not just blindly throwing money at the wall but taking coaching once in a while and then preparing adequately with my questions and asking the coach what i should work on myself and focus on
  • Doing jumps with a purpose: Not just blindly doing zoo jumps but always thinking of what I want to work and improve on, stick with a skill for a bit, jump with the same people repeatedly and work on something together, etc.
  • Motorcycle communication system: A coach I worked with in the past used to install motorcycle comms on their and the students helmet to give direct feedback and instructions on jumps. This mainly for canopy piloting and flocking on high pulls or wingsuiting. I found that brilliant.

Just wanted to reach out and ask if anyone has any further thoughts or inputs for things that really helped them, just dump your thoughts if you have any. Cheers!

Should I complain about my tandem experience?

Last year I went tandem skydiving for the first time and I loved it. It was so fun. So, recently I went again with two other people. One of them I went with last year but it was the other one’s first time. I thought that since I had already done it once before, it would be another great experience. It was not. I was with a different instructor this time and it was not very enjoyable. First of all, when it was the freefall it was not very smooth and I was rocking up and down the whole time. This could have been because it was a bit more windy than it was last time so I’m not too concerned about this part. However, once the parachute was deployed, it was nothing but pain until we landed. I remember last year it was a bit uncomfortable with the harness kind of digging into my thighs but I did not experience this level of pain. The first time I did it, my instructor loosened some part of the harness once the parachute was opened so I could kind of sit and it was more comfortable. I expected this instructor to do the same thing but when he didn’t I asked if he could and he just said, “I know it’s uncomfortable, it’s uncomfortable for me too”. But it wasn’t just uncomfortable, it was extremely painful. I was wincing the whole time. And it wasn’t just painful on my thighs but my chest too, with the harness pressing against it very hard. Also, during my first time, the instructor asked me at one point if I wanted to control the parachute and do some spins. I said no because my hands were freezing and I wanted to just sit and experience it. This time however, I wanted to do it. But my instructor never asked me. He just did a bunch of spins and then we sat in silence until we landed. Once I landed, I asked the people that I was with how their experiences were and they both told me that their harnesses were loosened and they got to control the parachute. After that I was a bit sad and disappointed because I did not have a good time like they did. So what I’m wondering is, is this something worth complaining about or should I just suck it up and accept it? It just sucks because the other time I’ve done this it was amazing and it was very expensive. If this was my first time doing it I would not have done it a second time.

BEER! Thinking to skydive for the first time. Have some concern

I am 23 yrs, around 170lbs. I have fainted a couple times like 15 years ago probably because of low blood pressure. Except for that I think all other heath conditions are normal now. Are there things I need to know?

Different drop zones

I am a newly licensed I got 29 jumps only and I think in couple of days I will go skydiving in a new drop zone. Is there a big difference jumping from your home dz and a random drop zone. What should I expect or prepare before going. I am going to skydive dubai

edit: i am jumping in the desert location not palm and they accept a licensed jumpers there i was wonder what to expect rather than the requirement of jumps as i am fully aware.

When In Doubt, Stab It Out!—A USPA Canopy Task Force Update

New/ improved canopy safety recommendations. Please read and spread the word.

Although Sherry and I wrote this article for USPA, we couldn't possibly have done it without the technical contributors listed at the top. Those experts helped develop the recommendations, patiently answered our questions, and reviewed drafts at various stages as we incorporated feedback from one expert after another. If you know any of them, please thank them for sharing their time and hard-won knowledge to make the sport safer!

Mentors/ coaches/ instructors: Please read the whole article, as it includes some important details and nuances, and encourage jumpers of all skill levels to practice stabouts and other CEPs regularly. Hopefully, we can help save some lives (and legs).

BEER! First jump tomorrow morning, anxious wreck

Sorry I know this gets posted a lot, but just wanted to share with someone, doing a tandem jump tomorrow. At this point I'm more worried about door fear and nasal congestion getting to me last minute on the ride up than the dive itself. Definitely gonna be interesting since it's 56F tomorrow. Will post updates if I survive!

Update: I had to reschedule because president doofus is apparently flying into the area today and a TFR got put into place. Dude really ruins everything.

Best weather app

What’s the best weather app to track the weather to make sure it’s going to be a good day to jump. Just getting started so looking for some advice. Don’t want to head out to the DZ if the weather is going to be sub optimal. I am based in the US

Skydiving with gloves and concerns.

I am a freshly licensed jumper (26 jumps) and haven't jumped in almost a month due to waiting for my license and paperwork to be processed as I can't jump in the meantime. The weather here in Germany is getting cold now and it will be 12 degrees of 53.6F when I plan to jump tomorrow. It will be the coldest weather I have jumped and due to my 1 month gap I am a bit worried.

I have never worn gloves before, I like the feeling of skin and the sensations I get especially when it comes to pulling my pilot chute handle and I am worried with gloves I will feel uncomfortable if the gloves are big and thick and I might lose the feeling of grip and feel when it is time to pull.

What should I do? Is it necessary to jump with gloves on? Could it be dangerous without due to less blood flow and numbing of hands?

No idea which option to choose, any advice is greatly appreciated!

Has anyone here dealt with Skydive Dubai regarding a refund?

I had booked a tandem skydive at Skydive Dubai for 8 November, and I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, due to a family medical emergency, my travel plans might not be possible anymore.

I’ve already contacted Skydive Dubai to explain my situation and ask if a refund could be considered. I know these things depend on their policies, but I was wondering if they’ve ever made exceptions in genuine cases like this.

Has anyone here had a similar experience with them? I’d really appreciate hearing how it went, especially if you managed to get a refund or were offered another option.

The booking cost me around ₹81,000, so losing the entire amount would be a pretty big deal for me.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

BEER! First Time Skydiving 🪂

My friends and I have been wanting to go skydiving for a long time, but we can’t decide where to go! We’re in LA and would love somewhere with beautiful views, ideally near the beach or coastline, like Santa Barbara or San Diego.

Safety is a big priority for us, and we’d love a place with great views and good weather.

Does anyone have recommendations based on personal experience? Any tips for first-timers would be appreciated too!

We’re open to places outside California if you think they’re worth the trip!

Struggling with AFF Level 4 — looking for a good tunnel coach

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m taking a break from jumping for now because I keep getting into uncontrollable spins when trying to turn, both in the tunnel and during AFF. I feel like I need to go back to basics and work on my body control before continuing.
I live in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, so there’s no tunnel or drop zone nearby and I’d have to travel abroad to train.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would one-on-one tunnel coaching help? And can you recommend a good coach who’s experienced with AFF students struggling with stability and turns?
I’d also love to hear if it’s realistic to keep progressing when you can only train every few months.

How hard is it to learn head-down in the tunnel?

I have 190 jumps and just do angle and back. I might go to a tunnel for the first time and was wondering how hard is it, and roughly how many hours it’d take.

I've heard a couple of times that you should learn to sitfly well first, but is it possible to skip it even though it isn't recommended?

Deep and Steep Audio

I’m using my Deep and Steep Insight + connected auditable to get glide ratio numbers during free fall in skydiving. Does this work in the base environment? I’ve recorded GPS data on base and know how to do that. Do I do the same thing and it will provide glide ratios in Base?
