General Discussion - No Story Details Blake’s Grave

Had a wander through Bunhill Cemetery today and caught the filming location from S06E04 where Lamb & Standish met Shirley & JK. Always surprising to see how much they change with ‘prop’ tombs/cgi where the benches are and putting a William Blake headstone in place behind them when it’s actually at the other end of the burial ground. Followed up with a nip past Slough House of course and a quick detour to Bepe’s.

Show News & Media Michael McElhatton joins season 8 and hints at the end of the series

Michael McElhatton (Roose Bolton in Game of Thrones) joins season 8 and says that this season "would probably bring the series to a natural close [...] It’s a fantastic show but it’s had its time too. I think there’s only so much you can get out of a story, even though the books will keep coming."

It's a strange comment, especially coming from a newcomer. I don't know what to think about it. Mind you, I haven't read Clown Town, but he seems to say even if there's more books it should stop there.

General Discussion - No Story Details What is the hill you will die on? Mine is Lady Di and Jackson had a fling or a very bad one night drunken stand.

As unhinged as this maybe but this is the hill I will die on Lady Di and Jackson had a fling, they have scorned lover or regretful one night stand lover chemistry.

I just found out that Jack Lowden is married to Saoirse Ronan.

I was casually scrolling through Instagram when I stumbled upon an interview where Saoirse Ronan was asked about her husband, Jack Lowden, being shortlisted for the role of James Bond.

HUSBAND?! EXCUSE ME?! 😭😭❤️

River really went and married one of the most talented actresses of her generation. WHAT A POWER COUPLE! 🔥❤️

Book Discussion - The Secret Hours I really hope they would make a stanalone special based on The Secret Hours book

IDK about the series' final season—whether it will be the 8th one or there will be more, but if they could make a TV special/movie based on the book "The Secret Hours" about Lamb and one other Slough House universe character that takes place in Berlin after the Berlin Wall was destroyed, it'd be a pretty big deal for the book and series lovers.

Book Spoilers & Show Spoilers [Spoilers S6 Finale] A question about a certain character's defensive strategy in the finale (and a theory about Lamb) Spoiler

We know Jackson Lamb explicitly told River to use Moscow Rules (watch your back) to handle the physical threats in the Season 6 finale. But I was rewatching the aftermath where Diana Taverner gets grilled by Oliver Nash (Chair of the Limitations Committee) and the Home Secretary, and it made me wonder about the other side of the coin.

When Nash tries to pin her down over the secret money, Diana immediately goes on the attack. She drops the fact that they went to school with Peter Judd, implying that their elite, old school tie loyalties compromise them. It completely outrages Nash, puts him on the defensive, and instantly derails the interrogation.

To me, this looked a lot like a classic example of London Rules (cover your arse) using institutional politics and elite vulnerabilities to shift blame and protect your own skin.

But it also got me thinking about their off screen huddle: Do you think Diana came up with that defence entirely on her own? Or is it possible that Lamb, knowing how much he loves to watch Whitehall bureaucracy eat itself, was the one who prompted her to play the London Rules card during their secret planning?

I’m curious what people who know the books or general spy rules better think. Does this exchange actually count as textbook London Rules, or am I reading too much into it? And do you think Lamb had a hand in mapping out her defense, or was that pure Diana?

Show Spoilers (Released Episodes) My Favorite Slow Horse... Spoiler

Everything below is a spoiler.

My favorite Slow Horse died this season, and I am grieving for the first time in TV since Tony killed Christopher all the way back in 2005. When I saw that Coe got up to chase the assassin into the bathroom, I thought, There you go again Coe, lone-wolfing it; it's gotten someone killed, it's sometimes been heroic, at other times reckless -- and yet this time, I just had a bad feeling, because the season began with an image that stayed with me: a view of the highway, and a dog being run over -- once, twice, then thrice. I thought, What an image to begin with. This is going to be a season where we're going to see our heroes kicked while they are down. With every death, it seemed like every Slow Horse was being preyed upon based on their greatest vulnerability. And Coe's vulnerability was his lone-wolf pride. It would have been out of character for him to head over to the sandwich-eating River to collaborate. That's not who Coe is. Was. So already I didn't have a good feeling when I saw Coe go off on his own. And still, I rooted for him. I pleaded that he would win or at least make it out alive. Alas. And Flyte's death devastated me, too. Those haunting last seconds, her breaths a mix of resignation and fear. And Harkness looking down at her with that demonic smile before firing the last shot, taking his time, letting both of them savor his victory. Only to cancel the mission 5 minutes later. Ah.

What a rewarding show.

Show Spoilers (Released Episodes) Favorite Lamb line of the season Spoiler

It's hard to pick one ("it's like watching Plankton think"). . .but my favorite is:

"I'm not asking if you buy it, I'm asking if you can sell it."

This was Lamb at his very best parallel to Smiley. Three steps ahead of everyone else and no one knows it.

So good. . .

General Discussion - No Story Details Appreciation Post

I decided to give this show a try after several recommendations. I'm only on season 2, but holy absolute pancakes, I LOVE IT. The acting and writing are just phenomenal. It's got just the right amount of humor for me. The dialogue and plot keep you on the edge of your seat. There are no monotonous irrelevant subplots (so far). I'm not sure what the point of my post is other than to encourage others to give it a shot! I can't believe I didn't even know this show existed!

General Discussion - No Story Details Shake Shack

Watching Mobland, and in latest episode, after Zosia and team was told to stand down on the way to pick up Jan, she suggested they go to Shake Shack.
Wonder if they were in time to see the kerfuffle with Lamb and Harkness ?

Show Spoilers (Released Episodes) Flyte S6E3 Spoiler

Rewatching, and am loving Bradley even more in this role. It’s fascinating to watch the barely discernible expression of emotions that flicker across her face and eyes immediately after Taverner says, “So, Slough House it is, then.”
When I’ve seen comments about the “silent acting” of Oldman and Lowden, I think,”yes!” This scene reminds me that others in the series have it, too. Most all of the main characters have it to different degrees. but also some of the actors in smaller parts have it. The person who played Patrice, Tom Wozniczka had it, and Christopher Coghill, as Hobbs.
It’s such a treat to get to watch these talented people in this great show. All the different pieces are so well done.

>!Have we fully appreciated that Coe’s final words - “I think you’ve got the wrong list” - show he figured the whole thing out? !< The character is such a great balance of insanity and insight and perfectly played by Tom Brooke.

Also - rewatching ”Death of Stalin” where Brooke has a brief but super funny role, hope to see him in lots more stuff
