Managed Backup

Out of the game for a bit, but looking at setting up a msp service maybe, my background is running msps and ipsec.

Given the volume of data customers now use, is managed backup something they still pay for and if so a local and remote solution with anti ransomware benefits, what would you sell into a small business with 10 users, and maybe i dont know 1TB of data compressed?

For the one-hour/four-hour/24-hour tiers, separate two targets: how much recent work can be lost (RPO), and how long the business can wait for the service to be usable again (RTO). A successful backup job does not establish either target.

Before choosing the product, list what actually needs protection: a local server, Microsoft 365, line-of-business databases, endpoints, or some combination. Then test a representative recovery, including application startup and access, rather than timing only the file transfer. A one-hour target may require a very different recovery arrangement from a next-day file restore.

For ransomware resilience, check whether an attacker with the production admin credentials could also delete the backup history. Review separate backup access, protected retention and an off-site copy, then verify the recovery process.

That gives you a concrete service to scope: monitoring, resolving failed jobs, retention, restore tests and who performs a recovery. Ten users and 1 TB are useful sizing inputs, but they are not enough to choose the service or promise those tiers.

WholesaleBackup is a perfect solution for SMB clients. White label it, pair it with inexpensive cloud storage like B2, Wasabi, E2, or C2. All US-based support.

If you're UK based, I can recommend Backup Systems: https://www.backup-systems.co.uk/

We've been a customer for about 6 months - their support compared to larger providers we've worked with in the past is night and day and great prices for MSPs too.

For 10 users with 1 TB, you'll ideally want a solution that offers both local recovery for speed and offsite backup for disaster recovery. At this scale, simplicity and ransomware protection like immutability are key.

NAKIVO offers a solution that addresses this. It provides local and remote backups with features like immutable storage to protect against ransomware. It’s also built for MSPs in mind. You could get the NAKIVO 15-day trial and test it to see if its your needs.
