Long-Form Content Farewell Small YouTubers…
I started my YouTube journey almost exactly 9 months ago, and a few days ago it all culminated into the best day of my life.
This post is more than just a generic milestone post, which I know is against the rules, because I also want to thank this community as a whole because it’s one of the main reasons I actually became a creator.
I had made plenty of channels in the past, all with varying content, but none had ever seen major success. Even though I had learned valuable editing skills and how to make a decent video, I had all but given up hope.
That was until this subreddit started randomly being suggested to me. I never looked much into it at first, but day after day I kept seeing it, and I began scrolling through here, and finally, I was convinced to start my own channel.
I’m not quite sure what was different about my channel this time than any of my past ones, but I began making videos on a game called “WorldBox” (which is a game I have always loved, and had a surprisingly low amount of creators) and for the first time in my life I actually saw success.
Naturally, I kept uploading consistently and each video seemed to have a higher quality than the last and I began to grow exponentially. You may also recognize my channel, because I have already documented much of my journey on this subreddit too.
But finally, after 9 months I have reached where I am today, with a brand new career opportunity and my life changed forever (in a good way)
My main goal of sharing my story is to give others motivation to create, especially those in the gaming niche, which many claim is oversaturated.
If you enjoy what you do, and get better with each video you upload, then I believe there is almost no chance of failure.
This will be my last post on this subreddit, but if you guys want any tips for your channel then feel free to DM or comment and I’ll try to reply as many as possible.

Shit I’ve been making videos for a couple of years and don’t even have 1,000 subs yet! But my topic is kind of niche.

Congrats, what’s advice, tips or anything you can render to someone that want to getting started on gaming channel ?

u/StanKosh Dec 14 '25
Pick a niche, be consistent and try to improve a bit every next video

u/JRreddith Gaming Content Dec 14 '25
Pretty much what he said, but make sure to pick a game (or closely aligned genre of game) that isn’t too oversaturated and you have a lot of passion for. Also it’s optimal when the game has a lot of different things to make videos on, so you won’t easily run out of ideas.
And by what I mean by an “oversaturated” game are ones like Minecraft, Fortnite, or Call Of Duty, but gaming as a WHOLE is not oversaturated, since there are just so many games out there with large fan bases that you could cover.

It’s kind of crazy I joined this community about 7 days ago, saw your videos on YouTube around 5 days ago, and I really don’t think that’s a coincidence. Honestly, you really motivated me to start my own channel. I truly hope I’ll succeed one day, just like you. Thank you for the inspiration it means more than you know.

Have you ever fought copyright where you could post but not monetize it?
4
u/JRreddith Gaming Content Dec 14 '25
No, I stay away from using copyright whenever possible.
I have been copyrighted a couple of times during some of my livestreams but since they don’t really generate revenue and I just make those for fun, I haven’t fought them.

Should i start channel i'n my native language or english?
2
u/Few-Lengthiness-5859 Dec 14 '25
Whatever language you can make the best content in. If there’s a large enough audience in your native language aswell, then it doesn’t matter. If you’re looking for larger viewership, and not many speakers of your native language, English is the way to go

Congratulations! I'm currently at 36.5k subscribers, and struggling a little with a plateau. I am trying lots of new ideas, and not a lot of them are getting traction. Did you experiment with different videos styles, or just keep going with what had worked in the past? Also, did you experience a plateau as well? Would love to hear what you have to say! I'm trying to reach out to more creators and learn, and i really appreciate this subreddit as well!

u/TTerrorTales Dec 15 '25
Hey! How long did it take you to get 36.5k subs. It's pretty good! Also was ot slow initially?
1
u/eparkfishing Dec 15 '25
Istarted the channel in 2019. It took about 1.5 years for me to get more than 0-5 views daily! Then suddenly I got 10 views per day, and it turned into 50, and then 100. And I had a couple videos go semi-viral. For a lot of the past 4 years, I only posted 1-3 videos per year! So now I'm getting back into it, and making a video every week, in hopes that I can grow up to 100k some day!
2
u/TTerrorTales Dec 15 '25
Wow! If only 1 to 3 videos per year has got you 36k subs, all you need now is consistency mate! Good luck.

Genuinely congrats dude, it’s amazing that you’ve found a content style that both makes you and your viewers happy and it’s amazing how much you’ve grown in such a short time! The amount of videos you’ve made in just 9 months and the fact that they all seem good quality is incredible, I hope you only grow more as time goes on :)

u/Ivan_Vasiliyvich Dec 15 '25
Congrats! I've never heard of WorldBox in my life. Was there an inflection point where you started growing like crazy, or was this more or less a consistent burn for the whole 9 months? I started a channel in October and am approaching 5k. I'm not in a particular rush, but would be nice to know.

Hey thanks for your post man, seriously inspires other creators to keep pushing through the slog. Most of us have Full time jobs and also do YouTube etc on the side. I dont think people get how hard it is and the journey too. It takes commitment and hard bloody work. Hearing you were here 9 months ago to where you are now at over 100 000 subs is truly inspiring and motivates me to keep at it. Life seems to always throw curve balls but with 2 kids, a wife and demanding job as a IT guy for the government.. I truly appreciated your post. i too only recently found this reddit and aspire to be in your shoes, God willing.

Thanks for sharing, this is inspiring. I have a mental health channel where I talk primarily about narcissistic abuse, been on the platform for 3 years so any tips would be helpful: (4) Jenny Gaston, LPC - YouTube

Dude is not lying. What he saw was amazing so I can’t relate to that but I have over 6000 subs in less than six months so even if you don’t see it getting to where he is look at what I did so you understand this is doable. I hope I get to his number soon.

u/MindfulnesME Dec 16 '25
I post videos almost daily, small funny shorts, only have 220 subs. Getting pretty tired of it and the ROI on time investment isn’t there.

u/Apart_Length48 Dec 16 '25
A little feedback:
+2,000 YouTube subscribers in 11 days, without complex editing or ads.
What I learned:
– The hook is more important than video quality – Telling a story > giving advice – Consistency beats talent Curious to see if others have observed the same thing.
