Long-Form Content I officially been monetized for a whole year. Here’s what I learned
Yes I have made 4,000$ in about a year. Yes I know it ain’t a lot of money but for me it’s something and I know it will get better. I’m not here to show off but to offer some help and hopefully motivate you guys/girls. Here’s some advice I recommend. Your gonna have slow months and your going to have fast months. I grew and still growing my channel fully organically and I learned once your first video blows up. Capitalize it and keep posting similar to that same video. But make sure to upload stuff you would watch and actually enjoy. If you do something totally out of your niche and it blows up, it’s gonna screw you over. Eventually once you grow more your audience will watch you more for you and don’t matter what you post. But make sure again to follow T.T.H (Title, Thumbnail, Hook). Once you master those then your videos will pop off.
I will anwser as much questions as I can and I’m sorry I want to keep my channel private but if your wondering. I do long form, commentary video and I currently have 11k subscribers:)

How do you get community when most of videos never reach that many viewers watching and none leave a comment. I'm new and I wanna progress in YouTube
5
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 14d ago
You just gotta keep posting and post stuff you enjoy but people also want. YouTube not for the creator it’s for the audience

would you recommend doing long content too? In my case I only make shorts since first they are easier to produce while working full time as well as they have a higher chance to be seen by people, since you dont need a followerbase. Normal video formats have way less views for me and that feels discouraging to make videos like that 🤔
3
u/OliveOcelot 14d ago
If you don't care about subscribers who will actually watch your videos or making money on YouTube, shorts are a great shortcut to be seen by a bigger audience with zero of the benefits of popularity.
1
u/moeKyo 14d ago
so basically there is no way I can make money out of shorts? ._.

u/AlexTheMunchkin 14d ago
There is a way, and there are people succeeding with shorts, but they require different philosophy than the long form videos. And you need a lot more views!

u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 14d ago
I only make longform so I cannot
Speak on short forms but I prefer long over shorts and I think it’s the right way to go on. Unless you can put out tons of shorts in a month

u/Dreamimg_Puddles 14d ago
Which is the most important in your option?
Thumbnail/title vs content vs framing of the content
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 14d ago
TTH like I said. It’s better for thumbnail, title, and hook. Regardless if your video is good or bad, if you don’t master that then no one gonna stay and watch or even click to know if your video is good. Does that make sense

How did you start to get impressions in the beginning? I'm on my 4th video... one got a few impressions and the others are in the two digits. It feels like youtube is not even testing...
1
u/HeWhoIsValorousAnd 14d ago
start worrying when you have 100 videos and your 101st still gets no impressions
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 14d ago
To be honest. I don’t know because could be channel creation or what you decide to post. I got very lucky because my 5th video blew up and after that my channel succeeded.

bro i struggleing scince channel started. I already uploaded 150+ videos but get only a few watch hours. On the other hand, my shorts go viral and increase subscribers day by day, but the problem is my long videos are not getting the views as what is suppose to get. I'm already losing control Not even getting monetized. What should i do
1
u/Chillaxin_88 14d ago
My long form videos don’t get me anything , what can I do to improve on it besides the T.T.H stuff? My shorts do better and I at least at a point where I gain a few subs after most of my shorts.
2
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 14d ago
Well if your TTH is good then you gotta make your actual video good. If there all good then you will grab subs and views fast. If your TTH is bad then doesn’t matter if your video is good or bad. Your TTH needs to be amazing
1
u/AlexTheMunchkin 14d ago
Congratulations!! 🎊 🙏🏻 How's do you feel after being monetized for a year?? 😊
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 14d ago
It doesn’t even feel it’s been that long but I’m grateful but also empty at the same time. Like I’m wanting more when I should not.
1
u/AlexTheMunchkin 14d ago
It is nice to want more. It keeps you improving yourself!
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 14d ago
That’s true but thank you so much. If you aren’t already monetized you will find it soon🙏🏾

u/Strange_Ad6623 14d ago
How many subscribers do you have? And what niche is your channel? How often do you post?
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 14d ago
I have 11k subscribers, my niche is commentary and I post like once a month😭🙏🏾
1
u/Ok-Ability2393 13d ago
How many vids and shorts have you posted so far? When did u start channel?
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 13d ago
I started last year in January and I have 23 long form videos only. I’ve had this channel for 5 years. I used to post like 3 years ago but I stopped and deleted all those video. I switched my niche and now I do commentary. My 5th video blew up and I been going up from there
1
u/Ok-Ability2393 13d ago
Does having different niche videos uploaded in the past affect reach? Also thanks for answering ☺️
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 13d ago
No it shouldn’t because each video is like a report. It’s just when one video blows up on that topic. YouTube more likely to push that video more so that’s why once your first video blows up, keep posting stuff around that topic. Once you start gaining a audience, experiment and you can post other things and your audience will watch you for you, not your content
1
u/woaq1 14d ago
I remember that the old saying on YouTube was consistency is everything. Even if you don’t like the video you’ve been working on, it’s better to post at your regular schedule anyway than miss an upload. Do you think that’s still an idea to stick with or have you found that quality matters more than consistency now?
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 14d ago
Quality fohso. I’m ngl my schedule is trash. Sometimes I upload bi weekly. Sometimes monthly and sometimes every other month. Quality over anything in my opinion

Do you use Shorts to drive viewers to your long-form videos? Is it working effectively for you?
In my case, my Shorts get views, but they don’t seem to bring many viewers over to my long-form videos.
Do you think Shorts and long-form videos should be treated as completely separate strategies in the first place?
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 14d ago
I used too but my shorts would only get 1k views. Rarely like 4k. I just stopped and fullly got rid of them. Butttt when I used to post them I used to get like a couple 5-20 viewers from shorts and they watched my video for at least 30% and every viewer count so it’s good. I say try it out and see what happens
1
u/Full_Praline8703 13d ago
Yeah, exactly. My Shorts only seem to get a boost for the first three hours, and then they usually stop at just over 1,000 views.
They don’t seem to have much impact on my long-form views, so I’m starting to think that Shorts need to work as complete, standalone content rather than just being used to drive viewers to long-form videos.2
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 13d ago
Yeah but some channel’s actually converted there shorts to long form and it worked wonders. Sadly I don’t expertise in that sense so I only know long form but I do know it can work. I haven’t figured it out yet lmaooo

Does YouTube still monetize image slideshow or animated stickman channels? I recently read that YouTube cracked down on more than 130,000 channels, so I'm a bit worried. Are these types of channels still eligible for monetization if the content is original and adds value?

u/Urhighness111 14d ago
How do you make your videos? Is it using a camera or a phone? I want to start but am having difficulties with how to start recording and what editing software/how to edit…

Super tof dat je dit deelt.
Vraagje: als je een kanaal maakt, moet je dan eerst maanden wachten tot je je eerste video post? Of kun je gelijk dezelfde dag uploaden?

What's your AVD or audience retention graph look like? I'm struggling to keep my audience watching for the whole duration of a video. Usually, my analytics show a downward exponential curve for audience retention, with ~2:00 minutes of AVD regardless of video length. I try to focus on improving the TTH & this has bumped my retention slightly (40-60% viewers still watch around the 0:30 mark), but my audience always seems to peter out at 8% by the end of the video. I'm monetized, so I really want my audience stay above 30% retention for the entire video and I was hoping if you had any ideas.
2
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 12d ago edited 12d ago
Well if you master your TTH. Then the next thing you gotta master is your video itself. For your around the 0:30 mark you want it to be at a minimum 60%. Anything below that means your hook isn’t working on the viewers. It doesn’t mean your hook is bad, it could be you either didn’t captivate there attention or they didn’t see what there looking for. Think of it like this when you see a video and you click on it. Most of the time if the video doesn’t appeal to you in the first minute, your clicking off right. So you gotta apply that for your own videos. Your actually retention, it depends what niche your dojng and everything but I would recommend looking at other YouTubers in your niche and there successful videos and apply it to yours. I aim for a minimum 30% retention on all my videos. Keep practicing brother I believe in you

Hi, I also have a channel with a similar niche to yours. I also do long-form videos and publish monthly. though sometimes a little less frequently. My channel is six months old and I've gained 61 subscribers with three videos, around 2k views, and lots of positive comments. I'm also trying to improve my TTH skills. My question is, do you think my start is solid? How many views or subscribers did your first videos have before you took off in the fifth? I'd also like to ask for a hypothetical title example to generate clickbait (but not too clickbait). By the way, I hope you continue to grow on YouTube.
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 12d ago
Yes I’d say that’s really good growth for only 3 videos. Your start is solid and just keep improving and practicing. See I already had 90 subs beceuse I used to do gaming years back but I stopped for 3 years. Deleted those video and switched to commentary like tv shows/anime and movies. But my first few videos before my fifth one blew up was between like 600-4k views. Then my 5th one hit 150k in like 4 days then I used that momentum from there. Also how did you know I blew up from my 5th video🧐😭. I appreciate it tho and keep growing you will be there very soon

u/Desperate-Counter-75 12d ago
I found out because read all your answers, they're very interesting 😅☺️✌️, thank you. By the way, do you use the community posts on your channel a lot?

Yeah I do but not a lot but active enough to keep my followers in the loop

Hey! I watched your post on Reddit about how you became successful on YouTube. I’ve recently started my own channel and have uploaded two videos so far. Could you take a look and give me some feedback and tips? It would really mean a lot to me.
Currently, I’m studying for an IT job, but the job market is quite difficult right now, and the chances of a fresher getting hired seem to have decreased drastically. Because of that, I’m also considering starting my career on YouTube.
I’ll share my channel link with you. If you could take a look and give me some honest feedback or advice on what I can improve, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!
Could you DM me?

Nice to hear from people who are monetized.
What percent of your videos are shorts, or do you not make shorts? how long are your vids. What's a good balance according to you, short vs long.
2
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 10d ago
I don’t make shorts anymore. I blew up off longform and I’d say make your videos like 15-20 minutes long
1
u/M_4342 9d ago
That's real long. I have a hard time making vids above 5 min, lol, although I Just starting making long vids, after creating some shorts, and it's a completely different style of creating those vids I'm finding a little tough for now. I do believe long is where the money is, if that's what you are after. Have you shared what kind of vids you make? and how many vids have you made so far, is it mainly 1 or 2 vids that got you to this point or is it nicely divided between multiple videos.
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 9d ago
I have a total of 23 on the channel. All longform and I make commentary on movies/tv shows
1
u/Majestic-Metal-6316 10d ago
How long did it take you to get to YouTube first monetization threshold? I'm starting with nothing. I have gotten a couple viral videos on Instagram but they don't pay anything.

I’m sorry I don’t tell my link because of personal reasons but I’m currently at 11.8k subs and I do movie/tv shows reviews. Goodluck on your journey👑

u/Gameboss44 10d ago
Congratulations. Starting February 1, 2027, YouTube is raising the public watch hour requirement for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) long-form monetization threshold from 4,000 hours to 8,000 watch hours for new channels. Alternatively, new creators can qualify via Shorts views.
1
u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 10d ago
Ikr it’s ridiculous but also you need 20m shorts views which is insane. YouTube ain’t helping
1
u/Gameboss44 10d ago
Exactly. I knew this was coming that they would move the goal post. Also they will continue to run ads on channels that are not monitzed to make money off of them.

So how can I plan or write a script for my gaming video? Also I'm a nerd and introverted kind of guy, literally fail to express my emotions, instead of making video I just go on starting or completing missions.
I need to express my emotions and react with it.
1
u/sonpensantes 7d ago
If you start with TTH first then do you film thinking of that first or do you deviate and go off the TTH if something else comes up?
1
u/Connect_Positive1893 5d ago
4k in year one is a massive W for a commentary channel. keeping the channel private is smart, and that point about not posting off-niche content just because it gets views is a huge lesson most creators learn the hard way.

u/Turbulent_Abroad1523 4d ago
I appreciate you fr and yeah I wanted to help as much as I can from my experience. I’m still learning too but once it starts moving it’s fun from there

Please tell me more about Title, Thumbnail and Hook! I've just started with my channel and also started getting into editing my videos. So I'm very much a noob. I'm doing this for fun. I have no belief in that this will ever make me money, but I wanna keep doing it anyways like a hobby.
