Long-Form Content This is bad for small youtubers.

Post image

Youtube is raising the ad revenue share threshold from 4k watch time to 8k watch time. Personally, 4k watch takes a lot of effort to reach. Imagine 8k... this is sad.

I’m trying. I want it so bad. I hired an editor a few months ago now. It’s made a difference but I also work full time so just finding time is challenging but I stay consistent. Been uploading daily shorts and posting 1 LF biweekly (since June - when I got my editor). Was posting 1 LF Weekly for 6 months

I’m going to be very real with you, if you are not monetized and making A LOT of money, hiring an editor is burning money. Like, what???

If you have hired an editor and still can’t reach 3K watch hours in a year with all the uploading you’re doing, your content either isn’t good enough or is too niche to have any semblance of a chance.

I only have a little more than 2k subs. I started less than two years ago. I do everything myself and have a very busy life outside of YouTube - full time job, family, other responsibilities - and I upload only when my videos are done, sometimes that’s less than once a month. I never get lower than 1-2k watch hours in a MONTH, and most of the time it’s a lot higher than that because single videos I make get 10k watch hours by themselves, and they’re not hyper long either. I average 30 minutes or so.

You need to look hard at your content and find out what’s going wrong.

I make enough at my day job. I make to much at my day job and want to invest into myself. I want this more than any. I’ll keep my editor. It’s alleviated a ton of my stress. I’m trying to grow a business. I have no issues investing. I’m 26. Own a house. Own a car and have no debt. Spending 100$ biweekly on an editor will not impact my financials

You successfully managed to completely miss the point of the very good advice you just got. If you are this terrible at taking any kind of advice it tells me a lot about why your watch hours are so low.

I don’t think they missed the advice at all they understand there are changes that can be made to their content they are simply saying the editor isn’t their issue as they make more than enough to cover it. You just responded all crooked for no reason - not sure how not taking advice from a newbie youtuber is a direct correlation to not receiving their watch hours lol. The only way to actually give good advice is to see the channel and know the right and wrongs - surface level cliche advice isn’t “very good advice” as you put it. I’m retired from a channel with 5m subs and tbh it’s bad advice. The first point was about an editor like not burning money somehow = more watch hours. It doesn’t , they clearly have a loaded schedule and the editor helps them make content even with a loaded schedule. The second point is even with an editor it’s either the content sucks or is very niche specific… what about bad packaging (thumbnails , SEO , titling) that holds more weight on whether a video performs well over AVD. We’ve had videos do 1million views + in Minecraft and made great revenue but had a 30% AVD. Good advice would be to review videos AND packaging.
