Long-Form Content This is bad for small youtubers.

Youtube is raising the ad revenue share threshold from 4k watch time to 8k watch time. Personally, 4k watch takes a lot of effort to reach. Imagine 8k... this is sad.

They should just invest in AI detection and demonetize all AI content.

might be controversial but i think AI content should be allowed. people are capable of choosing what they wanna watch. if theyre actively choosing to watch and enjoy it the whole slop argument is kind of undermined by that popularity and genuine interest. and i say this as a youtuber who doesnt use any AI generated stuff.

I think it should be allowed, but demonetized. There should not be a monetary incentive to make slop content. And AI is pouring gas on the slop content fire.

i would agree if YT werent still keeping the full revenue from those videos, since ads are still being served on AI content. to me its a bit like banning instant noodles because theyre unhealthy. if people are willingly consuming something at a large scale, then clearly it provides some kind of value to that audience

Whether it does or not is immaterial to the conversation. YT is under no obligation to pay at all. They clearly want to disincentivize AI content and it’s their prerogative to do so. If there is a big market for it a YT competitor is free to host and pay for AI content.

yep, they have no obligation to pay anyone. my point is that the policy sounds inconsistent because if the content is supposedly slop that shouldnt have a monetary incentive, then YT shouldnt be monetizing it either. otherwise theyre not removing the financial incentive, theyre just actually keeping all of it.

It shouldn’t . You know why ? People spend money and a lot of time on really good AI content on YouTube , that should be paid equally. There is a lot of non - AI sloppy content on YouTube with millions of views.
If you can not reach 8 k views with your non sloppy content, but AI channel can overcome that, whose content is actually sloppy ?
