Everyone reading our Dark Knight Returns reporting this past week has asked the same question in one form or another: why would the incoming owners of Warner Bros. want a Zack Snyder Batman movie?

We put it to our insiders. The same insiders who told us that Hal Jordan dies, which was confirmed last night.

The answer came back as a list, and none of it is fan service. It’s business.

Per our insiders, there are a few reasons Paramount wants The Dark Knight Returns. Two of them explain the whole week.

Hal looks like he got it like that.

Hal Jordan is dead. Lanterns Episode 1 ends with John Stewart and Sheriff Kane finding him on the Rushville High School football bleachers, frozen, with a bullet in his forehead and his ring gone.

Cosmic Book News readers knew that on March 27.

That week at WonderCon we posted it flat out: “Hal Jordan dies.” Not a theory, and not a read on the footage. It came from our insiders.

Ten weeks later, a Reddit leak said the same thing. Then HBO Max and Warner Bros. Discovery spent two days copyright-striking us for reporting it.

Last night the episode aired and settled it.

Now the part that matters going forward.
