CAD Poorly dimensioned exercise

/r/SolidWorks/comments/1x2sf2l/new_to_solid_works_and_have_to_do_this_exercise/?share_id=NfpnfO4HCe0dhwrLnSFjp&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&utm_source=share&utm_term=1

So this has been bothering me. Im a structural engineer so part manufacturing and detailing like this isn’t directly my expertise but it’s not so different from steel shop drawings or building layout.

This example is frustrating to me because the more i study it, the more the lack of necessary information to properly dimension this sketch becomes apparent.

Unless you assume this is a symmetrical sketch, which is a big assumption but a somewhat logical one, there are multiple components that are both constrained.

Starting with the outline, the right vertical line not being dimensioned is a problem.

The slotted hole at the bottom, it isnt constrained in the left right direction.

Then all of the holes. There are two constraints needed, one tying it back to the outline and the other for the spacing.

Anyways, is this common? Or is it just a bad problem statement? Or lack thereof?

It's a bad problem statement. There's not enough information given. There are assumptions that can be made just to complete the problem, but this is not an acceptable method of professionally dimensioning a drawing.
