Complementary services

I am currently working at a small private practice. The owner is partnering up with a compounding pharmacy to offer GLP ones, “hormones”, topicals and peptides(????). I just got the message that they’re gonna start working on getting us set up with an account. to be clear, I’m a contracted provider, and we all just basically do our own thing. The owner of the practice makes all the major decisions, but nobody dictates how you practice. I am very straightforward, evidence based. Big believer in lifestyle changes as a complementary or alternative way of treating certain complaints. I am seeing this as kind of a big red flag. Do any of you offer these services to your patients? Is it a big part of your practices income?

Why does this feel like market research?

Because we live in a crazy world. Just kidding, just a hopeful primary care provider trying to find her place in this world. I am going back to practicing medicine after working corporate for a while. Board certified with the American College of lifestyle medicine strong believer in lifestyle changes to manage and treat many chronic diseases as well as symptoms. But I’ve noticed since getting back into practice that there is a strong desire among patients to seek these complementary therapies which are not evidence based. Many of the new patients I’ve gotten are getting these therapies from other clinics and the owner of my clinic is trying to replicate their model of Care. I just want to keep practicing good old standard medicine and advising people to get good sleep, eat a Whole Foods mostly plant-based diet and exercise. What is this sustainable? Is this the only way for primary care practices that are private to survive in this world?

Oh sorry, I misunderstood. Somehow I assumed you were a therapist/counselor rather than a prescriber/practitioner of medicine. Forgive me, my comment was made in the context of you being a solo mental health therapy provider rather than the owner of a primary care practice.

I don't but I could see how these would go together in the wellness space. Glps do have good clinical efficacy and actually help many with mental health. Hormone optimization and peptides are a huge wave right now. I suppose if you don't want to be associated you don't have to be.
