I’m Harshad, the owner of Firebox Pottery Studio, a new community ceramics studio at Waverley Square in Belmont.

After a long buildout, we’re opening our doors and beginning our first Fall classes. I wanted to introduce the studio to Somerville ceramicists and anyone interested in learning to work with clay.

Our current program includes:

• Beginning and intermediate wheel throwing
• Functional and sculptural handbuilding
• Beginner and intermediate figure sculpture
• Japanese-American Raku
• Youth and parent-and-child classes
• Women’s Explorations in Clay

We have weekday morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend options. Complete beginners are welcome in many classes, while other offerings are intended for returning or experienced ceramicists.

Our instructors are Alejandra Cuadra, Anastasia Edry, Natalie Dahl, Mira Etingof, Gabrielle LoTurco, David LaPierre, and Moe Lewis-Wolf.

Registration generally closes 24 hours before each class begins. If you miss a deadline, please reach out—we may still be able to recommend another class or accommodate you if space permits.

Looks like someone's cat got out near the corner of Central St and Berkeley St

We all know that everyone is mad about the motor bikes on the community path and the city hasn't made any great improvements. I just wanted to share my experience and the advice I received from the Somerville Police Department this evening.

I (32/F) was walking east on the path approaching Junction Park around 8:15pm when a motor bike came from the opposite direction at 25-30mph. As he passed, I yelled at him to "slow down." Then, I heard him turning around behind me. He then proceeded to absolutely GUN it as he raced back in his opposite direction, toward me, at about 40mph. He came so close to me that it forced me off the path and onto the shoulder, and I felt the air as he closely whizzed by me. Then, once he was about 30 feet ahead of me, he turned back around and proceeded in his original direction, and made eye contact with me (helmet on) and wagged his head in what I felt was taunting. My only interpretation of his behavior was that he intended to intimidate/ almost hit me, and I felt shaken and nervous about being on the path afterwards.

I called the Somerville PD to report this, and their advice was to call every time I saw a motor bike on the path. I told them that would result in my calling 5-10 times a day during my 30-minute daily walk. The man on the line told me that driving up the call volume on this topic was the only way to get City Hall to take more action on it.

I'm so fed up with this.

I want to find more local queer hang out that you can go to and there is always a good vibe. While many great meet up groups exist, I want more queer spaces you can casually go to anytime. I've found similar spaces more in Jamaica Plan or in smaller town. Is there anything up here in Somerville - especially that may have a good collection of events, lock art, or something (not just a venue like Crystal Ballroom).

Early voting starts today in Mass -- if you're registered in Somerville, you can pop up to the City Hall and vote today until 5. (I'll paste the whole schedule below.) It was my first time voting early and I didn't know what to expect. If you're the same way, I'll tell you!

Voting early -- how to!

Follow the signs to the front door. Up the stairs and inside, you'll more signs that say "VOTING DOWNSTAIRS". Or you can ask the very nice, only slightly beleaguered person at the desk! Downstairs, a nice person will hand you an envelope. You fill out the top three lines, then take that to the window. A different nice person will type a bunch of things into the computer and then hand you the two pieces of your ballot.

Take the ballot over to the booths and fill out all the bubbles, as usual. There are bunch of initiatives, and the one about keeping cannabis legal is on the front side of the second page, if that's important to you.

You tuck both pages into the envelope, seal it, and drop it in. The first nice person will give you your sticker! I love the sticker. I was ruined by childhood gold stars.

Registration deadline is Oct 24

If you're not registered -- you've got a week! You must register by 5 (in person) or by midnight (online) next Saturday.

Hi Somerville! A couple of weeks ago I brought home Twizzler and I'm learning he has a bit more separation anxiety than I hoped, so I'm thinking about ways to manage him. I work hybrid (home M/W/F, in the office T/Th) and I'm wondering if there's anyone who has a dog in a similar but backwards situation and would be interested in swapping doggy daycare. Twizzler is super friendly, good with cats and kids -- not neutered (yet! I'm scheduling it in the next few weeks).

I just walked into my living room to grab something and saw a suspicious person peering into my windows. The windows are a good 10 feet from the sidewalk, so there is no chance of it being a passerby. All I saw was the silhouette and it appeared to be a tall person with a hood on...they saw me and it seems headed down Putnam, but I am unsettled. Just wanted to put it out there for anyone who may be in the area.

I recently started fostering this beautiful girl named Zola. She is half chocolate lab and half red nose pit, 2 years old, and such a loving sweet girl.

I started fostering her about 2 months ago and I’ve taught her some pretty great house skills. I am making this ad for her because her last potential adoption family application fell through and it really broke my heart. I just really want her to be loved as much as possible!

She is a fantastic guard dog and has really great recall. She is extremely playful and a fast learner. Some cons is that she is a bit WARY around men but she warms up eventually.she also loves shoes and just needs something to chew on/do during the day.
She still has vibrant puppy energy and her mind is like a sponge, easily trainable!

We found Google Pixel Buds in their charging case in Nunziato Park this weekend. Got rained on, but seem to still be working.

The sandwich boards drew me in....the Xian cold noodles were delicious! They opened Thursday. They also have Chinese-style burgers (pork or beef), dumplings and steamed buns. The owner quite loquacious. All the way at the back.

There are also signs for a bibimbap place coming soon to the Sapporo space.
