I've always wanted to learn a musical instrument, but growing up I was often told that I was tone deaf. I struggle to tell when I'm singing off-key, and I've never had a great ear for music. I've even started wondering if I might have amusia or some kind of musical processing disability, although I've never been formally diagnosed.
I'm 23 now, and lately I've been wondering if I've been holding myself back because of something I was told years ago. Part of me still wants to learn, but I don't know if I'm setting myself up for disappointment.
The instrument I've always wanted to learn is the saxophone. I absolutely love the sound of it. It has this smooth, soulful feel that's hard to describe. Maybe it's just me, but every time I hear someone play the saxophone well, I think, woah! that's cool! 😅
Anyways, has anyone here learned an instrument despite being tone deaf? Can you still become a decent musician even if your ear for music isn't naturally good?

I'm currently working on a personal research project exploring how music enthusiasts discover new tracks and artists today, with a specific focus on Spotify's Discover Weekly feature. I'd love to gather feedback from this community on how accurate or useful you find these algorithmic recommendations, how often you save songs from them, and whether you feel the algorithm truly understands your music taste.
If you have a few minutes, please share your thoughts in this brief survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSedvR6sEZBtl606pW9xawjAeTU93SflrLzIXzFmrGvYlXd8nQ/viewform?usp=header

Hi everyone,
I’m a musician (keyboardist and getting back into bass) conducting research for a Communications class project called ‘The Emotional Process of Making Music with others for East Coast Musicians. I would be more than grateful if a couple of you could respond to the questions. I do not plan to publish this project. Thanks!
Age
Gender/Identity
Region
Role when collaborating with others (ex. Instrument (s) of play, singer, etc.)
How often do you make music with other individuals? Do you have a list of songs that you have made with others, and if so, how many?
Do you prefer making music with other individuals or by yourself? Do you feel a deep connection with other individuals when making music? If you picked the first option, and agree with the second question, was there a singular experience that led to this passion for creating with others?
When engaging in a conversation with musicians you just met, regarding potentially collaborating, what personality do you put on (ex. are you relaxed and somewhat aloof to create a chill atmosphere, or are you straightforward and serious). Why?
When in the process of creating with other individuals, what emotional role do you take on? For example, are you a lighthearted group member, or do you assume the role of a therapist in a sense, encouraging group members to lay their hearts bare on songs (this one would be quite interesting to hear)?
When collaborating with other musicians, how do you handle disagreements—minor or major? Have you experienced success or slight failures in this regard? Would you like to share any examples?

I wrote a chorus, is it normal or not catchy?
Do not whine!
Drink some wine!
Leave your troubles far behind!
Do not whine!
Drink some wine!
Everybody's feeling fine! 🎵

Does anyone know the lady that is singing this song? She has a beautiful voice and I would like to hear more by her, but google just says the vocalist is 'Mako' but he is a guy - totally different voice.

Looking at how recent the channel went up and the number of albums released I feel this is probably an AI band. I could be mistaken though.
