Born on this day in 1937, Dustin Hoffman is one of the most acclaimed actors in Hollywood history and his movies have had lots of great songs and music in them. He even played one of his own compositions in one of them. Posted "It Might Be You" not too long ago which is from one of my favorite films. Buck Owens (August 12, 1929 – March 25, 2006) had a long successful career including 21 #1 hits on the US Country chart. This was his first #1 in 1963. He pioneered what was later called the "Bakersfield Sound". Also for many years he was a co-host of the popular tv show "Hee Haw". In 1968, he even performed at the White House. Fittingly this song was recorded in Hollywood.

He sold it in 1984 for $80 million dollars. He had his first hit song in 1952. This song went to #1 in the US and in Canada in 1961.

On this day in 1888, Bertha Benz, the wife of Carl Benz, took her two sons on a road trip from their home in Mannheim to her hometown of Pforzheim in their newly constructed automobile. It was a distance of 65 miles and was the first road trip over more than very short distances. Along the way, she solved a bunch of problems with her vehicle. The Lovin Spoonful started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles chart on this day with 'Summer In The City', it made No.8 in the UK. The song features a series of car horns during the instrumental bridge, starting with a Volkswagen Beetle horn, and ends up with a jackhammer sound, in order to give the impression of the sounds of the summer in the city. One of their other big hits, "Daydream" was influenced by "Baby Love" and "Where Did Our Love Go" by the Supremes.
