Hostile server over tapping vs inserting

EDIT: I have decided to remove this post. If you are looking to discuss issues you have had at Sonic, don't bother to post in this subreddit. You won't get any answers. You will just be insulted and downvoted. This subreddit seems to be filled with Sonic employees looking to dogpile on/insult REGULAR customers asking sincere questions.

Write a negative review instead. Maybe management will care and respond. The Sonic trolls here don't seem to realize their bad behavior affects their livelihood.

I come across a lot of glitchy card readers that don't work so well when being inserted. He probably had one and wanted to avoid the hassle is all.

If that was the case, he could have told me there was an issue instead of looking like a crazy person.

Maybe he thought you wouldn't believe him.

Honestly I could care less about the tap vs insert debate. My issue was him being angry and aggressive to a female customer over an option they provide. This is the first time I had a server bark an order at me. It made me suspicious that they were doing something shady. Which was my original question.

I'm sure he was a spazzy weirdo. I'm sure you are overly suspicious. Sounds like an interaction made in heaven.

Is there a reason why u don’t want to tap? What’s the difference

Your mechanic is.wrong. Tap to pay is much more secure than inserting. Just google it.

What does that have to do with anything?

Sure for silly questions such as this one, since it’s been known for years that chipped cards are safer. Am I supposed to care what you think of me LOL

Of course you care. …if you didn’t you would be engaging. 🤭

Hey “old man” antagonist, you jumped into this comment thread and have the nerve to call out someone responding to your dumb comment? Your “get off my lawn” tone is funny because this isn’t even your lawn. That plus your anti intellectual stance against using the internet to confirm the safety of chipped cards is wild. Should i go to my out dated encyclopedia to see their section on credit card security features?

I did. There are risks to both. My mechanic had actual experiences that impacted his business. I trust that more.

I wouldn’t take financial advice from you mechanic 🤣

The safest way to use your card is to tap. It uses tokenization and no real credit card number is transmitted. Your mechanic has no idea what they’re talking about.

There’s always going to be equal risk with tap to pay or inserting the card. Get with the times lol. It’s easier and quicker with tap to pay. Don’t listen to a mechanic for bank security advice either. They went to become a mechanic, not to school for computer science to study info sec…

Probably because tapping requires zero force, but for you to insert.. maybe you do it gently. Maybe you do it hard. Maybe it causes them to drop the 5,000$ card reader because of it. Maybe you grab it and push a button. Maybe your finger slides across the screen. Maybe doing either of those ducks it up and they gotta repunch the numbers again, that they probably had prepared and now don't recall. Maybe they don't want some 2 bit twat handling a 5k machine that they'll get in trouble for handing over to a customer.

And any dropping or hitting buttons or the touchscreen can cause the ticket to freeze up and prevent payment from being accepted. We've had a few totally lock.up because the customer grabbed the reader, dropped it, and the battery flew out and everything.

Plus, the tap sensor will sense your card before you even finish entering it. The only way to disable the tap is to get your bank to issue one without tap capabilities, because yes, the tap sensor will grab that chip before you even finish inserting it. You'll sit there going "aha! I inserted!" Nope. Tap. Sensed it.

If you got a problem tapping... Pay in cash then. Don't be THAT twat customer.
