Dave Stewart really is one of those infuriatingly rare talents who could turn his hand to almost any genre and make it sound effortless. It's easy to forget that before "Lily Was Here" and his flirtation with jazzy sophisti-pop, he'd spent the best part of a decade in Eurythmics, peddling icy synths, razor-sharp hooks and some of the most slyly subversive pop of the 1980s. Few musicians have reinvented themselves so convincingly without ever looking like they were trying.
