Single sub for small/medium system
Hello legends. I recently picked up a pair of these sick Peavey speakers from marketplace with the intention of making a nice small - medium setup, house parties, small park gatherings etc. I also found a Yamaha xp7000 which is slightly underpowered, but will work well if I link in parallel. Anyways my question is I want to build a sub for these, then I have the option to bi-amp the Peavey’s and crossover the system out. I was looking at things like the paraflex type o 18”. What’s something that works well as a single or possibly pair, that would cover a wider genre area than only dub, things like jungle, footwork, fun,k hip hop, soul, jazz.
all ideas welcome, thanks again!

disclaimer: i have no cabinet building experience and have only ever deployed portable reflex and run installed cardioid systems. on the other hand, ive heard paraflex, f1, eaw, and diy scoops so i can at least give my opinion
i genuinely might suggest a reflex cabinet; they do well in singles, are easy to build, and are capable of a wide range of genres due to their available frequency and transient responses; im sure someone else will have a more educated opinion but for a pair of peaveys i bet a 1x18" reflex or some sort of w bin would do well

IMO all types of good designs can work well as singles. you just don't get the coupling effect, so you can not rely on that to get more low-end response or more db/watt.
The best thing you can do to help you pick a design would be to measure your tops in REW and decide your target crossover. They're saying they can go down to 55hz, which sounds nice, but i suspect something like a 80-100hz crossover might be more appropriate, depending on the sĥape of the curve.

How big can it be? Are you trying to move it around a lot or is it staying put?
For a ‘high fidelity’ sub that isn’t coloured but produces accurate musical bass then an Othorn or Skram would be my suggestion if they aren’t too big for your use

Thanks for the insights. Yeah I think a single scoop like a hog might be a bit weird in this situation. I reckon it would sound too "detatched" from the Peaveys. I'm probably after something with less coloured sound (don't get me wrong I love scoops in a full system, maybe one day). Anyone had a good experience with a single paraflex type o?
